Coaching Log – Athlete observation
Date Monday 15th December
Location Hill barn pitch
Strength
I watched my athletes training , so I was able to see how the
player performance and was able to rate their traits of
excellence.
Improvement areas
I was only able to watch 30 minutes of training, preferably I
would have wanted to watch several training sessions over a
period of time along with matches to build up a full idea of
their true strengths and development areas, especially as I
don’t have any pervious knowledge of the athlete and their
performance.
Points for further discussion
For future observations, I would like to set up my own
specific drills with the athlete that would be designer to
highlight traits of excellence. Also to watch recorded games
so I can go back and analyses specific areas.
Possible actions arising
I will want to re-rate them on another training session and in
a match to make sure my ratings are correct and show a full
representative on the player full performance capabilities.
Coaching Log – Athlete Profiling Meeting
Date Monday 15th December

Discussion points
Just before the training session I spoke to the athlete
explained the 20 traits of excellence I would be observing
him for and explained the roles and functions of
performance profiling. After the training session, I them
explained the API /ASA to my athlete then emailed him the
spread sheet to complete as it was more convenient to him.
Concerns
I was concerned the athlete may not have understood the
scale of the ratings or the API/ASA
Points for future
discussion
After careful explaining I believe Sam understood the scale
and the API/ASA and I believe his results reflect this as the
API scores reflect similarly to what myself would have
chosen.
Possible actions arising
I will ensure the same detailed explanation of my scale is
given to the coach so he understands fully and then
hopefully his scores will be similar to my own and reflect the
true strengths and development areas.
Coaching Log – Coach Profile Meeting
Date Tuesday 16th December
Location Worthing College
Discussion points
I explained in depth my assignment, what I had already done
(task 1) and what I was doing in the task and how my athlete
related and what I needed him for, also what the result of this
would be (to create and undertake a training programme)
Concerns
My two main concerns were that the coach wouldn’t understand
my scale but also that he knew the athlete and their
performance better than myself so their scores would be
drastically different to my own , as I only have limited knowledge
of watching 30 minutes of training.
Points for future discussion
To contact the coach and report back the result and findings of
four strengths and four areas of improvement once I had
correlated mine, the coaches and my athletes all together.
Possible actions arising
Depending on the coaches and athletes opinions on my findings I
may have to alter my data or results accordingly.
