1. Evaluation Question 4: How did you
use media technologies in the
construction, research, planning and
evaluation stages?
By Natalia Cotonou
2. Media Technology
Media is a way of broadcasting information.
Different types of media technology are the
internet, CD’s and video games. The internet is
probably the biggest and most well known media
technology there is as it allows us to access the
news and to communicate with people we do and
do not know through social media sites. Media
technologies have developed dramatically over
the 10 years making us change the way we use
the media today.
3. Our Production
To create our film, we decided as a group that we were
going to use the Cannon 700D, we used this camera
throughout our whole piece to keep the consistency. As
the camera is small and light it was easy and non time
consuming to carry to each of our locations. Also as
this camera had many features, one of which being an
auto focus it allowed us to chose if we wanted to use
that or to use it manually.
One problem we encountered with this camera was the
sound quality. It was hard to know if we had good
quality sound as there was no way for us to listen to
what were recording as there was nowhere for us to
connect headphones.
4. DSLR Camera
As well as using the DSLR camera for my
production, I used it to take pictures for my
ancillary task as it allowed me to take high
quality pictures. I decided to take pictures on
days we filmed our production as well as a few
outside of our filming time as I felt like when
the cast was on set it felt more genuine.
5. Photoshop
Although this was not my first time using this
program, I still found it fairly tricky to create
two high quality pieces of work. Something I
found very helpful was online tutorials and as
Photoshop is a very popular program there
were many easy to understand and step by
step videos that help me make two
professional looking pieces of work.
6. Sony Vegus Pro 13
Our editor, Marcus Stamp, used this program
and as he had this program at home he could
spend more time perfecting our film rather
than just at school. Using this program
allowed him to add loads of effects to the film
while still maintaining the professional look.
7. Blog
We decided to create our group blog and
personal blogs on Blogger. We all had
experience with Blogger as we used it last
year. It is easy and simple to use and allows
other people who want to view our work to
access it simply.
We also had the idea to use Tumblr but
decided against it as we were all more
experienced and comfortable to use Blogger.
8. Websites and mediums used to embed
paperwork
I used a variety of different websites to upload
and show my work on as I wanted to show
that I could use more than one program. It
also makes the blog more attractive to look at,
as it will not be boring with all my work shown
on the same program. This was not hard to do
as I used most of these programs last year and
they were quick and easy to access.
9. Social Media
To promote our short film, I decided to use
Facebook and Twitter most people including
my target audience use these sites. I thought
this was a simple way to create excitement
and a buzz over our film also these sites would
mean that we could reach out to the majority.
10. YouTube
YouTube allowed us to upload our final
product onto it this means that we would final
get our product out there for people to
access. YouTube also allowed us to get
inspiration from other short films and ideas to
make our film better. It helped me to find the
tutorials to help me with other programs like
Photoshop.
11. Conclusion
I think it is clear that media technologies has
helped me significantly when I was planning,
producing and evaluating my work. Without
these technologies I do not think my work
would be as interesting to view and would not
be up to a standard that I would be happy
with. It has taught me a lot and helped me
develop in this field of work.
