Christmas
in the Czech Republic
Czech customs
• throwing women's shoes
• slice an apple
• letting boats
• casting lead
• carp
• Czech drink Kofola
• golden pig
Unmarried girl throws a shoe behind her shoulder.
When the shoe turns towards the door, the girl will
get married in a year time.
When the sliced apple shows a star it means health and happiness.
And when there is a cross it means illness and death.
Whose boat is the fastest , it means health. If it sinks
it means death.
Melted lead is poured in cold water. The shape determines the future.
On Christmas Eve dinner cannot miss carp.
Kofola is native Czech drink. Business Network associates it
with Christmas. But even mulled wine and punch.
It is said that he who endures eating nothing till the evening
he will see a golden pig.
24th December
• Christmas Eve is in the Czech Republic on 24th
December. We have festive dinner, get gifts and sing
carols. Some people go to church for midnight mass.
25th December
• This day in the Czech Republic ranked among the festive days and
also belong to the group of days of rest. This is the beginning of
Christmas Day and the birth of Christ. Christians celebrate the birth
of Jesus Christ, which God promised through the prophets to Israel as
the Redeemer. According to the Bible went pregnant girl Marie with
her fiance, Joseph the carpenter from Nazareth in northern Israel to
Bethlehem, located near Jerusalem, there to attend a mandatory
census. And it was there that they had a son of God.
26th December
• This day is celebrated in the Czech Republic as a 2nd Christmas Day,
recalling the memory of St. Stephen. It is also the State feast day,
which is also the day of rest. The Catholic Church throughout the
world worships St. Stephen as one of the first Martyrs who excelled
fearlessness and sincerity. He was stoned to death in front of the
Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, because he believed in the resurrection
of Jesus Christ. They claimed that Jesus is equal with God, and that
the Jews are to blame for his death.
Traditional food

In the Czech Republic
no Santa Claus!
We have JEŽíšek
(JESUS).
(This is a historical person and also the son of God.)
This is our Christmas tree which we have in the
classroom.
Thank you for your attention.
