British horse racing has a long history in British culture and society and is seen more as a cultural activity than a sport according to a questionnaire of 50 people, with 80% viewing it as a cultural event. The fieldwork and questionnaire found that while horse racing has aristocratic and exclusive aspects, most see it as non-hierarchical, and it serves as an epitome of British society and culture.
