2. STEREOTYPING.
• Categorizes a group of people
• It can turn into discrimination if people misunderstand it, and it
can be brought in a negative manner.
• Mostly exists in terms of different races, cultures or ethnic
groups.
3. EXAMPLES OF STEREOTYPES.
Blacks
One of the more common stereotype examples is
stereotypes surrounding those who are Black. Saying that all
Blacks are good at sports is a stereotype, because it’s
grouping the race together to indicate that everyone of that
race is a good athlete.
Group of Individuals
Skaters, Goths, Gangsters, Nerds and Preps are a few
examples. Most of this stereotyping is taking place in
schools.
4. Men and Women
Men Women
Stronger and aggressive Always moody
Hates reading Loves mirrors and makeup
Thickheaded/stubborn Bad drivers
Takes 2 seconds to shower Takes forever to do
anything
Better at sports Aren’t as smart as men
Messy and unclean Complains a lot
Couldn’t-care-less attitude Use only 5% of what's in
their purse- everything else
is junk.
5. The Differences Between Man and Women
“Dave Barry”
ď‚— Roger and Elaine had dating for 6 months.
ď‚— One day, Elaine asked Roger;
“Do you realize that as of tonight, we’ve
been seeing each other for exactly six
months?”
ď‚— Roger did not reply.
ď‚— Both of them start thinking to themselves.
6. Scenario 1 : way of thinking
Roger Elaine
1. ”Gosh, Six months…so that
means it was.. let's see..
February when we started
going out, which was right
after I had the car at the
dealer's..”
- Never counted
2. “And I'm gonna have them
look at the transmission
again...”
- Think about his
possession, his car.
1.“Geez, I wonder if it bothers him
that I said that. Maybe he's been
feeling confined by our
relationship..”
- Elaine was very curious
about Roger
2. “I’m not sure I want this kind of
relationship. Sometimes I wish I
had a little more space….” I mean,
where are we going? Are we
heading toward marriage? Toward
children?
- Unsure about their
relationship.
7. Scenario 2 : Mixture of feeling
& Respond
Roger Elaine
1. ”What?”
"What way?"
- Confused
2. “oh, yes”
- Short answer
1. “He's upset. I can see it on his
face…” “That's why he's so
reluctant to say anything about
his own feelings. He's afraid
of being rejected.”
- Easy to make assumption
2. "Please don't torture yourself
like this,“ she says, her eyes
beginning to brim with tears.
- Emotional
