2. Class At a Glance
“There Was Fox and Then There Were The Rest”
This year‟s class centers around All-American
Shooting Guard Roger Fox. Similar to
Anthony Davis, he will be the unanimous #1
overall selection unless a team is desperate
for another position. As a whole, there is a
good amount of depth at the SG and SF
positions this year with some future All-Stars
potentially scattered throughout.

Fox will have his work cut out for him right from day one - he is more than likely
headed to the worst team in the league as the #1 pick. But he doesn‟t seem to
mind; at Miami the youngster put tremendous pressure on his team‟s shoulders by
guaranteeing a championship before the season began. Although he didn‟t quite
get the team there, Fox was able to lift the Hurricanes into March Madness for the
first time since 2008. Similar to Anthony Davis, the young SG has been identified
as someone talented enough to have made the leap to the NBA straight from high
school…had it not been for the recent rule change, Fox would have surely followed
in his idol, Kobe Bryant‟s footsteps. For someone who grew up watching Kobe
play, Fox has crafted a similar style, able to unleash a varied arsenal of pump
fakes, up-and-unders, fadeaways, and acrobatic finishes. To say the sky is the limit
for this kid would be a severe understatement; perhaps the rings of Saturn would
be a more fitting expectation.

Heavily scouted from age 14 and on, Mason Sweetney has practically been signing
autographs since junior high. In fact, Sweetney is famous in his home town of
Jackson, Mississippi for receiving a week long suspension for signing his Algebra‟s
teacher‟s chest after his 50 point outburst his senior year of high school. “I just
couldn‟t help myself – he‟s so damn fricking talented!” was what she told the news
before being promptly fired. Sweetney put up solid numbers his freshman year at
Kentucky, but after a heated dispute with his coach, was persuaded to stay an extra
year to develop his maturity. His sophomore year showed an increase in production –
21 PPG is no laughing matter – but many critics continue to cite an attitude problem
as being his biggest roadblock to greatness. If Sweetney thinks the world will continue
to revolve around him in the pro‟s, he‟s in for a rude awakening.

Caballero has undoubtedly soaked up as much wisdom and value from two years in
Coach K‟s Duke system as humanly possible. Growing up in the heart of Inglewood, CA,
Kenny was no stranger to a hard-knock life, but did all he could to utilize basketball as his
ticket out of a negative environment. After receiving a full ride to Duke, Kenny impressed
coaches from day one, putting in more gym time than any other player. “He‟s as hard of a
working guy as anyone I‟ve ever coached here,” Krzyzewski told reporters. “If he keeps
up this level of dedication, there‟s nothing stopping him.” Caballero has also been gifted
with a rare form of athleticism, able to jump out of the gym and throw down vicious dunks
without hesitation. His passionate playing style has unfortunately led to several injuries –
the young PG was sidelined for roughly half of the season with nagging wounds.

If there was a contest for who the nicest player in this year‟s draft class would
be, Fordham would easily win. A photogenic dude with a million dollar smile, Mike has
been described as “The Tim Tebow of Basketball.” After spending every single one of
his spring breaks in impoverished countries to help struggling families, Fordham said, “I
want to give as much of my time and energy possible to assisting those in need.” The
good news for his teammates is that Mike seems to be as generous on the court as he
is off. Averaging 6.8 assists per game and dropping dimes all over defenses this past
season shows how considerate the young man is in terms of getting everyone involved.
Critics cite his lack of ball handling skills as the #1 reason why he hasn‟t made the jump
to the PG spot, but Fordham doesn‟t seem to care. “Put me in wherever I‟m needed..I
just want to win.”

Fresh off a national championship, Hawkeem Freeman (yes that is indeed how you

While most experts agree he could use at least another year to fine tune his
game, Freeman has impressed anyone who has been privilege to his Sportscenter Play
of the Week dunks he‟s thrown down all year long. Coach Bill Self had this to say
about him: “The youngster is a national treasure…brings a tear to my eye just
watching this kid fly….through the air.” Regardless of Self‟s opinion, Freeman brought
an indisputable electricity to Kansas‟ rise throughout the NCAA Bracket. Ratings for the
championship between Kansas and UNC were the highest of the past decade. Coming
from Pittsburgh originally, Freeman has a rambunctious attitude that always seems to
grab a person‟s attention. If he can smooth out his rough edges…the NBA might be

“Snow Holding” – Bryce‟s favorite game growing up in the suburbs of Flint, Michigan.
What is it? Why not have Bryce explain: “Snow holding is when you challenge your
buddies to a game…simple rules…everyone playing shoves their hands into a pile of
snow. Winner is whoever holds on the longest. Loser gets frostbite. Cole is no
stranger to pain, apparently. “I invented it after I had my heart ripped out in 7th grade

never had an issue with pain since, whether enduring frigid winters or scrapping for
lose balls in the paint at Michigan. His rowdy playing style has allowed him to build
quite the fan base…while alienating equal amounts. If Mike Fordham is Superman,
Cole is Lexx Luther – a person more interested in domination than helping others. His
most insane moment involved him punching a New Mexico State player in the eye
after missing a costly free throw. “You don‟t tease me about missing free throws

Ramon is perhaps the most terrifying prospect to come out of the NCAA‟s in quite
some time…terrifying because he‟s 7 feet tall and runs the court like a gazelle. If there
was an analogy appropriate to describe his defensive mentality, it would be this:
Uwawah defends the rim like a Grizzly Bear defends its young…brutally murdering any
one or anything that gets in its way. Unfortunately for teammates, Ramon seems to
include them in this category from time to time; his most famous youtube video
shows him setting a brutal but misguided screen that shattered Kansas teammate Ralf
Waldo‟s nose. After Ralf was rushed to the ER, Ramon was simply quoted saying, “oops.”
But all is forgotten, like most mistakes are, when a player brings home a national
championship. His dominating performance over UNC silenced most of his critics. After
Uwawah conquered the finals, his passion carried him over to the scorer‟s table, where he
promptly stood on top of it and screamed, “WHO‟S NEXT?!”

Dennis “Big Game” Lambert will be a nice addition to a team in desperate need of

As if it was bizarre enough to have a draft class with one guy rocking orange hair, this

Harden doesn‟t miss, and I think I know why – the power of the beard baby!”
Sampson Jr. started his own twitter hashtag #beardpower after scooping up five
steals and four three- pointers in a late season win over Michigan earlier in the year.
The game resulted in an explosion of popularity via social media…including a very
angry message from Michigan rival Bryce Cole: “You think your beard is powerful
now…just wait until I find you asleep at night and shave it all off!!” Apparently Cole
never found Sampson Jr, who went on to have a productive stint in the NCAA
tournament, guiding his team to the elite 8 before falling short to UNC. “I keep a
close watch on my beard at all times, man. There‟s no way I‟m this talented…all that
I have comes from this facial hair.”

Scouts claim that Kasparov is ready for the NBA after watching him pour in nearly
20 PPG in Russia. His unique playing style utilizes a lot of work in the low post,
making him a tough matchup on a nightly basis for smaller guards. Igor is also a
Spetznaz training expert, able to endure extreme pain in excruciating conditions.
“I think of pain as pleasant reminder that I am alive. Pain is my best friend.” Why
Kasparov decided to play basketball is anyone‟s guess, but the eccentric Russian
has a warrior‟s mindset that can be very difficult to stop. While most 2-guards
operate on the wings or with quick slashes to the basket, Kasparov steadily works
from the low block, bodying up and unleashing a plethora of unique moves. When
asked why he chooses to play this way, Igor responded, “I abuse weak-minded
flashy man who thinks basketball is all dunks and three pointers.” Interesting.

As Wallace has climbed up the draft boards throughout his sophomore year at
Memphis, the media has become increasingly aware of Hart‟s sarcasm in
post game interviews. Opting to take a dry and often cynical approach to these
opportunities, he makes himself a unique personality. When asked why his Tigers
didn‟t get past the first round in the tournament this year, he responded, “Wait…
I thought that was a practice game…you mean…it‟s all over now? Damn, I was out
there thinking it was just a scrimmage. Lemme get a do-over.” For another example of
Hart‟s sarcasm, take a look at what he said after being asked why he was opting to
leave for the pro‟s early: “I mean…I think it‟s a stupid idea for me to go out and try to
earn millions next year and have a mansion with naked chicks just chillin‟ in my
swimming pool…I should cancel my decision and go back to being unpaid for my
talents. Yeah, that‟s what I‟ll do.” Sarcasm aside, Hart will be paid millions thanks to
his rebounding and low-post defense. If he can improve in a few key areas, he could
be making even more.

Yunglong Su brings a defensive presence to the court unseen in other prospects
coming into this year‟s draft. Playing in Japan‟s professional league, Su was
tasked with defending a variety of positions, and has shown expertise in shutting
down pretty much everyone he‟s been up against. The team that ends up drafting
him should have a nice go-to player off the bench for slowing down a capable scorer.
Contrary to popular stereotype, Su explains that his defensive prowess does NOT
come from martial arts: “I‟m not Bruce Lee…I‟m not a bad driver…and I actually
HATE karate of any style. More of a Brazilian Jujitsu guy myself.” Scouts wonder
just how well Su‟s playing style is going to translate to the pro‟s after only seeing
Japanese competition – everyone‟s curious to see how he matches up against the
likes of Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James.

6‟3” shooting guard TJ starks joined Georgetown after posting up insane numbers in
high school at Roger Tiegan highschool in Miami, Florida. Starks averaged over
40 points a game, dumping in several 30 point outings on a consistent basis,
practically never missing from long range. His freshman year at Georgetown
seemed to be no different; Starks averaged almost 20 PPG by shooting over 44%
from beyond the arc – hitting dagger after dagger on his way to earning a Third Team
All-American honor. In leading the nation with most 3-pointers made per game (4.4),
TJ has proven why he‟s arguable the best young shooter in the nation. On why he‟s
so accurate, Starks had this to say: “I grew up playing real life paper toss as a
kid…I‟d crumple up tiny balls of paper and throw them into trash cans all around my
house…getting the family dog involved to play defense…never missed.” Hopefully
Starks‟ accuracy will carry over to the NBA, where he should be a nice addition for
teams needing outside scoring.

Hester stayed loyal to his Nebraska Cornhuskers all four years in college, but couldn‟t
seem to bring home a championship trophy. The good news for the young man is that
he will have a tremendous opportunity in the NBA to bring home a championship
trophy if he continues to sharpen his game. Similar to Thaddeus Young, Hester has
nice speed for his position and outruns his matchups en route to quick scores around
the hoop. If his professional career is anything like his college one, Jesse should
continue staying a step ahead of those trying to guard him. “My training coach had
me running sprints that guards run from day one at Nebraska…that‟s why I‟m able to
move my feet so quickly. Helps a lot in games.” Hester can provide teams a unique
option of the bench based on where he‟s drafted – scouts expectations range from the

7 foot Rambo Hightower still has a lot of growing up to do. When asked what the
toughest part of Rambo‟s transition into the NBA thus far with the media heavily
scrutinizing him, he responded, “I mean it‟s uhh….like…durrr…gotta be more
professional…ummm yeah.” Hightower obviously needs a lot of polish on and off the
court. A leaked video of him smoking weed and slapping a poor young girl in the face
with a plastic fish while yelling, “EAT THE FISH WOMAN!” really hurt his draft stock
this year. Critics zero in on his lack of maturity as being a real concern at the next
level and wonder if he has the focus necessary to blossom into a dominant big man.
Although work must be done on his mental game, Hightower‟s physical game has
impressed everyone thus far. The young athlete has springs in his legs and excels at
dunking over tall big men to the excitement of fans everywhere. If he can harness his
unlimited potential, Rambo could become a legitimate star at the next level.
