Coffee and tea contain very few calories, with a 6oz serving of coffee having only 2 calories and most teas having 2 calories per serving. While coffee and green tea provide various health benefits like reducing risks of certain diseases, fruits vary more widely in their calorie contents. Many fruits like starfruit and cherries have under 50 calories per typical serving, while higher calorie fruits include avocados, pears, bananas and dates. Dried and canned fruits also have more calories than fresh due to water removal and added sugars.

Calories in Coffee
Coffee is extremely low in calories. A 6 oz. serving of coffee, brewed from grounds and prepared with tap water,
contains only 2 calories, according to the USDA National Nutrient Database. A 2 oz. serving of brewed espresso,
as prepared in a restaurant, has just 1 calorie. Instant coffee has a slightly higher calorie count, but it's still very
low. A 6 oz. serving of regular instant coffee, prepared with water, contains 4 calories.
Calories in Tea
Most varieties of tea contain 2 calories per 6 oz. serving. Those include tea brewed with tap water, chamomile
and other herb teas, brewed and instant tea prepared from unsweetened powder. An 8 oz. serving of prepared
instant tea, lemon-flavored and sweetened with sodium saccharin, contains 5 calories, and an 8 oz. serving of
prepared instant tea from powder, flavored with lemon and sweetened with sugar, contains 88 calories .
Benefits of Coffee
The health benefits of coffee range from helping protect against Parkinson's disease to decreasing the risk of
suicide, according to Hensrud, who is a doctor of preventive and internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Other
indicated benefits, when consumed in moderation, include reduced asthma symptoms, a decreased risk of
Alzheimer's disease, reduction of gallstone symptoms and protection against liver cancer.
Benefits of Tea
Green tea has more health benefits than black tea, and oolong tea falls somewhere in between the two.
According to The World's Healthiest Foods, website of the George Mateljan Foundation, green tea helps protect
against various forms of cancer and contributes to a lower risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and
bacterial and viral infections. Green tea also serves as a blood-thinner and helps prevent blood clots, lowers your
risk of gallstones and may help prevent Type 2 diabetes
Cold Drink, Fruit & Juices
Low-Calorie Fresh
Many fruits have less than 50 calories for a typical serving size. Carambola, also known as starfruit, has only 20
calories per half-cup serving. Fifteen cherries have about 25 calories; 1/2 cup of cranberries has 23 calories; a
half grapefruit has 35; a medium plum has 36; a medium peach or medium tangerine has 37; and a cup of
strawberries has 45.
Medium-Calorie Fresh
Fruits with a somewhat higher caloric content include watermelon (1 cup, 51 calories), apricots (three medium,
51), pomegranate (one half medium, 52 calories), cantaloupe (1 cup, 56 calories), grapes (1 cup, 58 calories),
raspberries (1 cup, 60 calories), and oranges (one medium, 62 calories).
Higher-Calorie Fresh
Still a great nutritional value but a little higher in caloric content are mangoes (one half medium, 67 calories),
blackberries (1 cup, 75 calories) pineapple (1 cup, 76), blueberries (1 cup, 81), and apples (one medium, 81).
Highest-Calorie Fresh
The highest-calorie fruits include avocados, pears, bananas, and dates. Half an avocado contains about 130
calories. One medium pear has 98 calories, a medium banana has 105, and five medium dates have 114.
Dried and Canned Fruits
Dried and canned fruits contain more calories per ounce than fresh fruits. When fruits are dried, much of
the water has been removed and the fruit becomes more nutritionally and calorically dense. Forty grams of
raisins, for example, contain 130 calories, whereas 40 grams of grapes have only 40 calories. A quarter cup of
dried plums has 110 calories versus 19 calories for fresh. Find out the calories in canned fruits simply by looking
on the Nutrition Facts label. Fruits canned with added sugar will be much higher in calories than fruits without
sugar added.
