2. In early October, Occupy Oakland , an offshoot of Occupy Wall Street , established a camp in downtown Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza. Protesters renamed the plaza in memory of Oscar Grant , a young man who was killed by a BART police officer in 2009. On October 25 th , Oscar Grant Plaza was destroyed in a police raid . Protesters set up camp again a few days later.
