                              Travel And Tourism

Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism
Organization defines tourists as people "travelling to and staying in places outside their usual
environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes".

Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. In 2010, there were over 940 million
international tourist arrivals worldwide, representing a growth of 6.6% when compared to
       [2]
2009. International tourism receipts grew to US$919 billion (€693 billion) in 2010, corresponding to
an increase in real terms of 4.7%. As a result of the late-2000s recession, international travel
demand suffered a strong slowdown from the second half of 2008 through the end of 2009. After a
5% increase in the first half of 2008, growth in international tourist arrivals moved into negative
territory in the second half of 2008, and ended up only 2% for the year, compared to a 7% increase in
2007. This negative trend intensified during 2009, exacerbated in some countries due to the outbreak
of the H1N1 influenza virus, resulting in a worldwide decline of 4.2% in 2009 to 880 million
international tourists arrivals, and a 5.7% decline in international tourism receipts.

Tourism is important and in some cases vital for many countries, such
as France, Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy,
and Thailand, and many island nations, such as Mauritius, The
Bahamas, Fiji, Maldives, Philippines and the Seychelles. It brings in large amounts of income in
payment for goods and services available, contributing an estimated 5% to the worldwide gross
domestic product (GDP), and it creates opportunities for employment in the service
industries associated with tourism. These service industries include transportation services, such
as airlines, cruise ships and taxicabs; hospitality services, such as accommodations, including
hotels and resorts; and entertainment venues, such as amusement parks, casinos, shopping
malls, music venues and theatres.

In 2010, there were 940 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 6.6% as
compared to 2009.

The World Tourism Organization reports the following ten countries as the most visited in
terms of the number of international travellers. In 2010, China overtook Spain to become the
third most visited country. Most of the top visited countries continue to be those in Europe,
followed by a growing number of Asian countries.

International tourism receipts
International tourism receipts grew to US$919 billion (€693 billion) in 2010, corresponding to an
increase in real terms of 4.7% from 2009. The World Tourism Organization reports the following
countries as the top ten tourism earners for the year 2010. It is noticeable that most of them are on
the European continent, but the United States continues to be the top earner.

Study the Consumer Behavior With regards to Travel And Tourism.

How Modernize is Travelling Habits of the people ??

The Survey was conducted over a period of a month . In which , our team member went
to people from every walk of life and made them aware of our survey , provided them
with the questionnaire and helped them in filling it.
Travel and Tourism being part of everybody’s life was very easy and comfortable
matter to talk about for the respondents.

The information which was seek from them was to predict how mordenize their way of
travelling is . They were asked,
        How often they travel ?
        For How long ?
        Where they travel to ?
        With whom ?
        Objective of their travel .
        How they plan their Trip ?
        Where do they stay ?
        Have much familiar they are with online travel assistance options ?
        How they like to travel more ?

With data available various analysis where done in order to study travelling behaviour
of the sample .

trailing Age group was “below 20” years with 33 % of contribution. Age group of 25-30

62 % share of sample was financially dependent as they are not in any kind of economic
activity. 13 % had income of income upto 5 lac where as 12 % earned upto 5 lac to 15
lac annually . only 2 % and 1% earned Above 35 lac and between 15 lac to 25 lac
respectively.

As above data signifies , 36 % went out of their daily environment only once in year . 21
% went out every month while 20 % went once in 6 months. 13 % went once in 3
months but only 10 % went every week.

When asked about the purpose of the Trips they make , 57% answered that it’s mostly
Family vacation . Other 18% said that it’s Adventure while 18% said that they do it for
Business point of view. While 5 % and 6% people defined their purpose as Spiritual and
religious.

% people it’s Commercially busy places, for 13% it’s Deserts. While for 8% and 5%

   •   Way of Travelling Still Stays the same.
   •   Online travelling Websites need to market more in order to become a part of
       People’s Holidays.
   •   Travelling is Synonym to “family time’’ for most of the people.
   •   Most Preferred Destination are “ Hill Station”.
   •   People look for cost-effective travel options.
   •   Very few people Go for Holiday Clubs Membership.

  • 3. 3 Travel And Tourism Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people "travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes". Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. In 2010, there were over 940 million international tourist arrivals worldwide, representing a growth of 6.6% when compared to [2] 2009. International tourism receipts grew to US$919 billion (€693 billion) in 2010, corresponding to an increase in real terms of 4.7%. As a result of the late-2000s recession, international travel demand suffered a strong slowdown from the second half of 2008 through the end of 2009. After a 5% increase in the first half of 2008, growth in international tourist arrivals moved into negative territory in the second half of 2008, and ended up only 2% for the year, compared to a 7% increase in 2007. This negative trend intensified during 2009, exacerbated in some countries due to the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus, resulting in a worldwide decline of 4.2% in 2009 to 880 million international tourists arrivals, and a 5.7% decline in international tourism receipts. Tourism is important and in some cases vital for many countries, such as France, Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Thailand, and many island nations, such as Mauritius, The Bahamas, Fiji, Maldives, Philippines and the Seychelles. It brings in large amounts of income in payment for goods and services available, contributing an estimated 5% to the worldwide gross domestic product (GDP), and it creates opportunities for employment in the service industries associated with tourism. These service industries include transportation services, such as airlines, cruise ships and taxicabs; hospitality services, such as accommodations, including hotels and resorts; and entertainment venues, such as amusement parks, casinos, shopping malls, music venues and theatres. In 2010, there were 940 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 6.6% as compared to 2009. The World Tourism Organization reports the following ten countries as the most visited in terms of the number of international travellers. In 2010, China overtook Spain to become the third most visited country. Most of the top visited countries continue to be those in Europe, followed by a growing number of Asian countries. Next trailing Age group was “below 20” years with 33 % of contribution. Age group of 25-30 and Above 30 years had contribution of 17% and 3% respectively.
