Fear Vs Hope Research Paper
Let's say you just finished a huge test. Do you hope for a good mark or fearing failure? Your
personality changes if you hope or fear. But it is crucial to know hope is stronger than fear
because it has the ability to heal, it is changing lives, and hope can improve the mindset of one.
Firstly, hope is stronger than fear because it can help heal. On a CNN news article, research showed
that during the course of illness, belief and expectation – two mental states associated with hope –
have an impact on the nervous system which, in turn, sets off a chain reaction that makes
improvement and recovery more likely. When a person acquires a serious illness, their family
members would hope their family member will survive because it is the only way to live. In
correlation, surgeons have a very tough job performing a surgery. They always do the job hoping
they will be successful because because their job is pretty much healing the victim. With the hope,
surgeons would have an easier job doing the work. Next, hope is stronger than fear because you
get a better mindset. For example, when someone consistently hope for a good mark, that person
gains a positive mindset and then they won't feel so bad when they get a bad mark; they'll look or
what went wrong and how to improve for. Martin Luther King once...show more content...
Fear does not cause permanent change because it is easy to get over. Meanwhile, hope can
change a person's feelings dramatically. My aunt recently got cancer and my parents are hoping
she is okay. It affects feelings dramatically because it is a family member, part of their life. Hope
is stronger than fear because hope is that extra light when you're in the dark. Terry Fox had ran
from Newfoundland all they way to Ontario with cancer and an amputated leg during his campaign
"Marathon of Hope". He had the courage to go for hoping his cancer would be cured and he raised
more than 24 million in the

Hope: A Short Story
Hope is a 16 sixteen year old girl who just wants a normal life. She's an undercover spy and is
supposed to catch the most wanted criminal in America, Professor Louis. Therefore, Hope has to
keep her secret or else the government workers who assigned her the "job" will assassinate her. The
problem is that Hope is a terrible secret keeper, and another one of her most unfavorable traits is that
she doesn't really appreciate her family. For example, when Hope is out in public, she will act like
she doesn't even know her family because she doesn't want to be embarrassed.
Hope has a mom, dad, and a younger brother named Timmy. She lives in Miami, Florida and has
quite a big house. In fact, some people may say she's spoiled rotten, but that's not...show more

She would always tell her mom and dad that she was going on a walk, even though that was a lie.
When she got to the school, she unlocked the door with a bobby pin, a trick she learned from her
mom, and quietly stepped inside. It was pitch–black and soundless. You could hear a pin drop, it was
so quiet. The frigid air made Hope shiver. The email told her to go to the cafeteria and hide behind
the oven. Hope smelled the foul odor of old food in the kitchen. She was in her hiding spot when
she heard a noise that sounded like footsteps. Hope perked up, but it was only her imagination.
She waited for about one hour and nothing happened. As a result, she walked out of the school
and headed home. Hope approached her door and saw something funny. The door was wide open.
However, when she quietly stepped inside she found nothing wrong. That was the problem, there
was nothing wrong. The lights were unlit and everything was in place. The house was as quiet as a
mouse. In all the books she has read, when someone breaks in, there has been something wrong. She
walked upstairs and nearly fainted. Where was here mom? Her dad? Timmy? She ran all around the
house with no one

Creative Writing: Losing Hope Essay
"Hopppeee,"Grace beckoned. My high school sister's voice carried through the open screen door
of our house. Even though we went to different schools, we both left at the same time. My mother
never trusted me to make it to my fourth grade classroom on my own, so, she left that job to my
sister. In return, she got an extra dollar on her allowance each week! I am nine years old thank

brown mutt, jumped up in excitement behind me and his paws too, bounded down the tile floor.
"Sorry Quigs, but I'm not sure that is quite how you play," My mom jokingly explained. She
reached down to pat his head and he wagged his tail, as if to say, "I love you too!" With that, the
Quig man pranced over to me, wanting attention from his favorite person in the world. "Here bud,
I got some snacks that smile back!" I tossed them into the air just so he could reach. But, like all
the other times, his big, brown, dog lips got in the way and the treat fell onto the floor. i sighed
and then turned in the direction of the stove. "7:45!!" I shouted. "We're late! We're late, for a very

Theme of Hope Hope in the face of adversity, hope in spite of the depression and mere survival they
must endure, hope in the face of death and fear. One of the major themes that Cormac McCarthy
emphasizes in The Road is hope: hope for a better world, hope that there are still good people out
there. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the
attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there is nothing.
The sons character is a symbol of hope to the father throughout the novel. In the father's perspective
the son is almost described as holy, "if he is not the word of god. god never...show more content...
McCarthy utilizes food as a sign of hope. Throughout the novel the father and son are constantly
fighting the struggle of running low on food. When they find the bunker of food the text is full of
short sentences "Canned hams.", "Corned beef" which emphasizes the father's joy and almost
disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also
repeatedly says "oh my god," when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non–religious view,
shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in very
few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father's sense of morals. The
father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope
to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, "carrying the
flame." Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only
referred to as the "bad guys" and are described as if they are animals with no hope other than to
survive. Choe 3 In the father's dream an animalistic creature is scared off by the man and the boy,
symbolizing how humanity after the end of the world is something to be afraid of. Also in this
dream the father and the son are holding a light, "Their light playing over the wet flowstone walls,"
which could be

I had not thought much about people with a disability. But, once I read Cycle of Hope, I realized
my life can change in an instance. People with a disability are very determined and strong–minded.
People with a disability that are confided to a wheelchair can carry out anything that they put their
mind too. Just because someone has a disability, it doesn't mean they can't leave their life to the
fullest. They can live a normal life just like me, even though they are in a wheelchair. With today's
technology, they can drive a car, live own their own and enjoy their everyday life. Disability people
can hold down a full–time job and live on their own. I think someone with a disability is very

Hope Poem Analysis
"Hope" by Lisa Mueller is a poem that entranced me from the moment that I read the first syllable.
The picture that she painted with her elegant words pulled me into the beige colored pages of my
textbook and mesmerized me throughout all four stanzas. "Hope" inspired its desired effect as each
word in this poem washed over me with an awe–aspiring feeling. This poem made me feel almost
unworldly as it persuaded me to reach out and grasp for my own aspirations. Mueller's poem also
awakened the realization that no matter how discouraged I might be, hope will always prevail
and pick me back up once more. Lisa Mueller's "Hope" indicates that hope is something that we all
long for; we all hope for good fortune, fine weather, happier times, love, and success. Hope plays
a crucial role in our everyday lives, as it fuels and motivates us to accomplish our goals, such as
getting a promotion, having a child with the person you love, or finding your place with God. We
are surrounded by hope; it is existential, spiritual and pragmatic. It is the essence of our being.
Mueller writes that hope can be found in dark corners, in mushroom gills, on dandelions and on the
wings of green angels (1–8). The first stanza of "Hope" insinuates that hope can be found anywhere
and at any time, as it references the strange places where hope hides, like dark corners and on the
wings of green angels. The dark corners represent the dark times in our lives, comparatively to

Hope Is There
Hope is Always There In the poem, "Hope", the author, Emily Dickinson, is writing a message in
the poem. The poem explains how hope lives in your soul and could never run out. It is best in
the hardest times and but could be ruined. It is known to be everywhere but never needs anything
in return. The message that Emily Dickinson's trying to say is that in life things would bring you
down but then hope is always there with you and bring us back up . One example is when Emily
Dickinson is showing the message is when she talks about when hope is there for us. "In the Gale
is heard" ( pg. 39 l.5). This line means that even in the toughest times, hope will still be there. Hope
is even best when times are hard. Hope will make you feel better and

Persuasive Essay About Hope
What does it mean to suffer? To suffer is defined as "undergoing or feeling pain or distress"
("Suffer"). People can suffer in several different ways and in different degrees such as being left out
in their circle of friends or being physically assaulted. Joyce Carol Oates, a famous American writer
states, "One simply cannot know strengths unless suffering, misfortune, and violence are explored."
Hope is defined as "the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the
best" ("Hope"). Through suffering, one can discover hope. In Emma Donoghue's novel "Room," Old
Nick, a rapist, has imprisoned Jack and Ma in a miniscule room. Desperate for freedom, Ma and
Jack devise a strategic plan for both of them to escape. After their escape, Jack becomes shocked
with a major culture change because he has never seen the outside world. Thus, he must learn to
adapt to the outside world. This essay explores how one can find hope through multiple episodes of
suffering. The best way Jack's life discloses how suffering stimulates the exploration of hope is
through encountering freedom in confinement, love in adversities, and courage in fear.
Jack discovers hope by experiencing freedom in confinement. Through the tiny narrow room, Jack
up and sees "one of those floaters in [his] eye, but it's not. It's a little line making a thick white
streak on the sky. 'An airplane'" (Donoghue 91)! The airplane is the first sign of hope that Jack
experiences. When Jack

Emily Dickinson is a famous poet from the Romantic Period. "Hope is the thing with feathers" is
one of her many poems. It is a poem that talks about hope through metaphorical terms of a bird. I
chose "Hope is the thing with feathers" as my poem because I am a very hopeful person and very
much agree with meaning of this poem. "Hope is the thing with feathers" is, not surprisingly, about
hope. The first two lines read, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul," (1–2). The
metaphor in these lines, along with the delicate phrasing of the poem, contributes to the creation of
an image of hope that is like a dove, wholly pure and good. The next couple lines, "And sings the
tune without the words, and never stops at all," (3–4) let us know there is always hope. Shortly after
these lines, Emily Dickinson writes, "...kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chilliest land, and on
the strangest sea," (8–10) letting us know that hope is everywhere and it has helped many people
through many hard times. The last two lines read, "Yet,...show more content...
One characteristic of the poem that helps define it as a Romantic poem is it includes a bird. Poets
from the Romantic Period often incorporated nature in their poems. Another hint that this poem may
be from the Romantic Period is that hope is quite an imaginative subject. Authors from the
Romantic Period really valued imagination. The poets also wrote with, and valued emotion. I'm not
sure if hope classifies as an emotion, but it is close enough that poets from the Romantic Period
would value hope too. Poets from the Romantic Period also tried to write their poems very
smoothly, and this poem was written very smoothly. "And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore
must be the storm" (5–6) were two lines that were written particularly smoothly because of the use of
the "s" sounds in the alliteration. Clearly, this is a poem from the Romantic

Hope Definition Essay
People who have not been around hard times do not understand what hope does for others. I
learned the true definition of hope when all my world came crashing down around me. I needed
the feeling that everything would turn out for the best. Hope is belief or faith and is not doubt or
hatred and I want everyone to have hope when they are done reading this. Some people have
mounds of hope where others will never have any. One example,is the movie Heaven is for Real,
they show the true meaning of hope. Coleton's family has their faith tested when he ends up in the
hospital. He ended up needing emergency surgery on his appendix. Throughout the movie Coleton
tells his parents about his experience with heaven, how he got to meet God and talk with him. Also
he believes that everything will go how the family needs because that is what God told him. Even
though the parents had very little belief of their son's story the more he talks about it the more they
wonder if he might be telling the truth. In the end the whole town ends up believing the boys story
about how God saved him and spoke with him. Coleton did not have to keep telling his story when
everyone was calling him a liar, but his faith was strong...show more content...

Hope, struggle, and determination are the three words I use to describe my high school career. My

my entire life; conversely, my goal is to continue to still strive to make my parents proud and attend

This has been proved to me through the kind words and helpful advice of my teachers who go out

and made me confident in my hopes of college. Challenge creates determination; my mental illness
has challenged me my entire life, but without it I would never be as determined as I am to go to
college and become a social worker. Through all of the struggles I have went through these
fast–paced 17 years of life, my parents have supported me through it all. They held me while I
cried and felt hopeless, they worked hard to give me all the things I have needed, and supported
and encouraged me to follow my dreams of attending college. So, when I say I describe my high
school experience in the three words hope, determination, and struggle I truly do mean it. Despite
the struggles, I have overcome with determination, and after the struggles were overcome I was
left with the purest form of hope. Therefore, I believe I deserve a scholarship because I never put
my goal of attending college on the back burner; it has always been on the forefront of my mind. I
cannot let my hard work these past 17 years go to waste. I hope that through this hard work I may

Paper On Hope
The words hope and suffering could not be more opposite. Naturally, hope is a positive word and
suffering is a negative one. However, if we pay attention we can see that although these words have
entirely different meanings, they interact with each other. We may not know why suffering occurs,
but what we do know is there is hope. Throughout this paper, I will be discussing the meaning of
hope, how we are to receive it and the church's response to it. Then, I will contrast with meaning of
suffering, why it is present in the world and the church's response to it. With all this said, I will
finally discuss my beliefs on both subjects. In order to understand how we are to obtain hope, we
must first define it. Merriam Webster...show more content...
There can be multiple sources of hope. We receive hope from the people around us, God,
ourselves, events, and many other sources. However, it is up to us whether or not we will believe
it and keep it. "One study of children revealed that hope emerges through interactions with the
people who surround us." Of course, this all depends on who we spend our time with.
Unfortunately, there are people who suck the hope out of us. If we are not careful we can be
trapped in their hopelessness. Luckily, there is hope for hope. "But the children Bidwell studied
revealed that hope is a social resource. It emerges through interactions with the people who
surround us and is then internalized." Hope is also a response to opposing forces. We have the
opportunity to either run from adversity or face it. Even when facing it, we can decide whether or
not to hold our heads high. If we go into a tough situation already defeated, our likelihood of losing
is greater. Hope emerges in unlikely circumstances. You cannot hope for something you already
have. Hope is a choice. It is in the middle of adversity where we have the opportunity to choose hope
"True hope takes into account the real threats that exist and seeks to navigate the best path around
them." Researchers identified five main pathways to hope. The first pathway is identity through
participation in social gatherings. The second is realizing you are not alone. The third is monitoring

Hope by Emily Dickinson Essay
Hope by Emily Dickinson
As a literary woman of the nineteenth century, Emily Dickinson wrote, ? ?Hope? is a things with
feathers– that perches in the soul– and sings a tune without the words– and never stops– at all.? Are
you listening? Does your soul too sing a melody, an ongoing tune to which you delicately move,
and never stop? Here Dickinson suggests an aspect of life, a struggle for spiritual freedom, that
applies to many women within the nineteenth century, as well as the women of today. My
consciousness speaks to me; a spark of hope rests inside my soul, hoping to emerge into the sunlight
of each new day. I am a woman; I am a delicate woman who listens to Dickinson?s fine words. I

art to serve as a mechanism for spiritual contentment, but as readers we are not convinced that her
passion for art is strong enough to open the door of her cage to the surrounding world of freedom
and happiness. The bird, Edna Pontellier, aspires in some way to be released from such a familiar,
monotonous, depressing realm of discomfort, the cage; the room in which she is trapped. Her
ongoing journey is to find the key that opens the door of her restraining world.
On a late moonlit night, early in the book, Edna lingers on the outskirts of her room despondently;
her husband attempts to lure her back into the house with authority. ? She wondered if her husband
had ever spoken to her like that and if she had submitted to his command? (Chopin 78). Edna feels
controlled and helpless by the walls and people which surround her; she needs to be relieved of the
familiarity of the situation to be spiritually satisfied. ?The pigeon–house (which she lives in) pleased

The Theme Of Hope In The Great Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, hope is a major theme throughout the novel. Hope is the
act of wanting or wishing for something to happen. Gatsby, for example, is hoping that Daisy will
leave her husband to be with him, this eventually leads to his death. Despite the recurring nature of
the theme of hope, it is not portrayed in a completely favorable light. In fact, there is a complex
attitude towards the nature of hope as shown through the narrator Nick. He believes hope is a human
instinct, but it is something undoubtedly pointless in the long run. Nick seems to believe that hoping
for things is redundant. That no matter what the things that people hope for will either never happen
or they will never achieve their goals. As...show more content...
As previously stated, Gatsby is murdered before he can achieve the future he is hoping for, thus
proving Nick's belief that hope is a pointless feeling as one never reaches the outcome they want.
However, while Nick felt the idea of hope was all in all a pointless endeavor, he still believes that
hope is something people can't help but feeling. He believes that everyone can't help but hope or
wish for something better, that it is just a part of human nature. For example, "So we beat on,
boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past" (182). The use of diction,
specifically with the phrases beat on and ceaselessly, create a confident tone that defines human
nature. Beat on shows how restless Nick believes humans to be. He believes that no matter what
happens, they will pick themselves up again and continue on with their lives. This is shown in
Daisy's actions when Gatsby died. Nick watches as rather than face the consequences of what she
did, she picks up her family and moves on with her life, thus cementing the idea of this is how
humans act into Nick's mind. Similarly, the use of ceaselessly shows Nick's belief that people refuse
to quit and that they will continue tirelessly until they reach what they want in life. He sees this
through Gatsby. Gatsby threw extravagant parties every week in order to attract Daisy's attention.
He refused to stop, continuing this trend for years until she finally waltzed back into his life.

Definition Essay On Hope
Hope is surprisingly difficult to define and may be expressed in many ways. Overall, I feel that a
good definition for hope would be that it is an optimistic and expectant desire that emerges from a
stressor. It is a coping mechanism deeply rooted in motivation. It is the opposite of despair and fear
as well as the influence that keeps us from succumbing to them. Hope can be identified as a means of
perseverance as well as perseverance itself. Hope is the ability to detect even the smallest amount of
light in the darkest of places.
The origin of hope can be disputed. Its roots can be considered cognitive, emotional, or spiritual.
The answer depends on whom you ask. In my own personal experience, hope has been a feeling
attached to a moment of overcoming despair in a time of crisis. I asked two other people where
they thought that hope originated. One of the individuals that I asked felt that hope was a
goal–oriented mindset that stemmed from a feeling. The other individual believed that hope was an
emotion that came from the mindset. If a...show more content...
I can decipher what constitutes a better tomorrow and the changes we need because I can see the
areas that we need to improve. This notion of a better world sets the stage for hope because I
know it is both necessary and a step in the right direction. In other words, it is my desire to see the
world as a better place that allows me to hold on to hope.
In order to help people build hope in their lives, one would first have to identify the factors that are
obstructing it. One place to start would be to begin identifying the individual's distal stress factors,
their resiliency, and their access to resources. The next step would include addressing these factors
and focusing on ways to empower the individual. Once hope is established among people in a
community, it can be an important binding factor as well as a source of

Reflection Paper About Hope
Charles R Snyder, a well known psychologist, spoke about home and once said hope includes
three elements: a goal, a path, and a belief. The person who is hopeful will believes that they will
succeed. Secondly, the person will have a specific goal, direction or destination they are trying to
reach. Thirdly, the person knows the route or path they will have to take in order to achieve their
desired outcome. That is why, hope is a mindset, the will and determination to believe that one will
overcome. Hope also can provide you with a map of the route on how to achieve the desired
outcome. I agree but to me it's more of a feeling of expectation that we get when we have a desire
for something to happen whether it is for us or someone else. It is when we have centered
expectations. People hope for all types of things everyday, sometimes they happen and sometimes
they don't. We have no control over what happens over time. I've been in hospital settings more
times than I could ever imagine and I always see others hoping for something, whether it is for
their loved ones to be okay after a tragic accident, or after a major surgery all I see is hope.
Sometimes I find myself hoping that if they can't do anything to help their situation, there is
something that they can do to help anyone else in a similar situation. Not everyone has a happy
ending but small acts like that can go a long way. Another way I picture hope is how young girls
waiting in line to buy tickets to their favorite singer, or to see any type of show and not wanting
them to be sold out before they can get to the window and buy them, especially when they are at the
end of the line with many many people in front of them. Hope can be used in many different ways
too. Everyone has said something they regret with the word "hope" in the sentence. When that
hopeful wish is fulfilled, then sometimes we experience regret. Hope is an emotion that looks
different for everyone, but we all almost share the same feelings and thoughts towards it.
Along most people of the country, I have high hopes for this place I call home. More now than ever
I always hope that one day, we can get to a place as to where we don't treat other people different

Hope, by definition means to look forward to something with reasonable desire and confidence.
Hope also means a person or thing in which expectations are centered. When discussing the word
hope, one must consider the core values by which the word works around. You could hope for
financial success, world peace, or simply hope for some good out of your day. In 2006, Barack
Obama wrote the political biography The Audacity of Hope to outline his core political and spiritual
beliefs, as well as his opinions on different aspects of American culture. The Illinois senator divided
the book into nine chapters, each concentrating on both his own and the United States' successes and

Senator Obama is a Christian whose religious views developed in his adult life. He wrote in The
Audacity of Hope that he "was not raised in a religious household"(241). Obama explained how,
through working with black churches as a community organizer while in his twenties, he came to
understand "the power of the African–American religious tradition to spur social change." With this
in mind, I believe chapters 6 and 7 are perfect examples of ethos in this novel, describing racial
heritage, racial equality, and faith. In chapter 6, Obama attacks the issue of religious faith, mainly
focusing on roots and influence of the Democrats growing uneasiness with the displays of
religious faith. Because this is such a controversial topic, I must say, I was a little skeptical as to
how he would present his arguments, to a group of readers with such a variety of opinions. I was
intrigued when Obama recounted his own journey from atheism to faith, contending that the
structure of religion has invigorated and expanded his moral beliefs. Due to the high degree of
religiosity reported in polls of Americans, he contends that regaining a sense of ease with religion is

Hope Essays

  • 1. Fear Vs Hope Research Paper Let's say you just finished a huge test. Do you hope for a good mark or fearing failure? Your personality changes if you hope or fear. But it is crucial to know hope is stronger than fear because it has the ability to heal, it is changing lives, and hope can improve the mindset of one. Firstly, hope is stronger than fear because it can help heal. On a CNN news article, research showed that during the course of illness, belief and expectation – two mental states associated with hope – have an impact on the nervous system which, in turn, sets off a chain reaction that makes improvement and recovery more likely. When a person acquires a serious illness, their family members would hope their family member will survive because it is the only way to live. In correlation, surgeons have a very tough job performing a surgery. They always do the job hoping they will be successful because because their job is pretty much healing the victim. With the hope, surgeons would have an easier job doing the work. Next, hope is stronger than fear because you get a better mindset. For example, when someone consistently hope for a good mark, that person gains a positive mindset and then they won't feel so bad when they get a bad mark; they'll look or what went wrong and how to improve for. Martin Luther King once...show more content... Fear does not cause permanent change because it is easy to get over. Meanwhile, hope can change a person's feelings dramatically. My aunt recently got cancer and my parents are hoping she is okay. It affects feelings dramatically because it is a family member, part of their life. Hope is stronger than fear because hope is that extra light when you're in the dark. Terry Fox had ran from Newfoundland all they way to Ontario with cancer and an amputated leg during his campaign "Marathon of Hope". He had the courage to go for hoping his cancer would be cured and he raised more than 24 million in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Hope: A Short Story Hope is a 16 sixteen year old girl who just wants a normal life. She's an undercover spy and is supposed to catch the most wanted criminal in America, Professor Louis. Therefore, Hope has to keep her secret or else the government workers who assigned her the "job" will assassinate her. The problem is that Hope is a terrible secret keeper, and another one of her most unfavorable traits is that she doesn't really appreciate her family. For example, when Hope is out in public, she will act like she doesn't even know her family because she doesn't want to be embarrassed. Hope has a mom, dad, and a younger brother named Timmy. She lives in Miami, Florida and has quite a big house. In fact, some people may say she's spoiled rotten, but that's not...show more content... She would always tell her mom and dad that she was going on a walk, even though that was a lie. When she got to the school, she unlocked the door with a bobby pin, a trick she learned from her mom, and quietly stepped inside. It was pitch–black and soundless. You could hear a pin drop, it was so quiet. The frigid air made Hope shiver. The email told her to go to the cafeteria and hide behind the oven. Hope smelled the foul odor of old food in the kitchen. She was in her hiding spot when she heard a noise that sounded like footsteps. Hope perked up, but it was only her imagination. She waited for about one hour and nothing happened. As a result, she walked out of the school and headed home. Hope approached her door and saw something funny. The door was wide open. However, when she quietly stepped inside she found nothing wrong. That was the problem, there was nothing wrong. The lights were unlit and everything was in place. The house was as quiet as a mouse. In all the books she has read, when someone breaks in, there has been something wrong. She walked upstairs and nearly fainted. Where was here mom? Her dad? Timmy? She ran all around the house with no one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Creative Writing: Losing Hope Essay "Hopppeee,"Grace beckoned. My high school sister's voice carried through the open screen door of our house. Even though we went to different schools, we both left at the same time. My mother never trusted me to make it to my fourth grade classroom on my own, so, she left that job to my sister. In return, she got an extra dollar on her allowance each week! I am nine years old thank you very much! There is no need for me to be babysat on the way to school. I know very well, not to be attracted when someone calls, "free candy," and pulls up in a white van. Either way, mom said I have to be walked, so, there we are every day, walking, side by side to Lincoln Elementary. But still, she is getting paid. Grace could be a bit more patient with a...show more content... I looked up and saw the reflection of the familiar braid of brunette hair laying across my shoulder. My lips parted just enough to see the glistening, of my teeth in the mirror. "Come oonnnnn Hopieeeee!" mother sang. Just as they had before, my feet carried me down the stairs to my awaiting mum. "Alright," she exclaimed. "I assume those teeth are brushed this time, so lets get the show on the road." Crossing the kitchen, I played hopscotch along the tile floor. Quigley, our brown mutt, jumped up in excitement behind me and his paws too, bounded down the tile floor. "Sorry Quigs, but I'm not sure that is quite how you play," My mom jokingly explained. She reached down to pat his head and he wagged his tail, as if to say, "I love you too!" With that, the Quig man pranced over to me, wanting attention from his favorite person in the world. "Here bud, I got some snacks that smile back!" I tossed them into the air just so he could reach. But, like all the other times, his big, brown, dog lips got in the way and the treat fell onto the floor. i sighed and then turned in the direction of the stove. "7:45!!" I shouted. "We're late! We're late, for a very important date!" My cheeks were pushed up slightly with a grin of satisfaction, knowing that I had found a more appropriate time to use my punch–line. Giggling, I called back goodbye to Quigley and leaped out the door. skipping towards the blue minivan, I slung my backpack across my pink covered back. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Hope Essay Choe 1 Grace Choe Mr. Quarrella AP Literature 11 November 2010 Theme of Hope Hope in the face of adversity, hope in spite of the depression and mere survival they must endure, hope in the face of death and fear. One of the major themes that Cormac McCarthy emphasizes in The Road is hope: hope for a better world, hope that there are still good people out there. McCarthy uses the son as a symbol of hope throughout the novel to engage and grasp the attention of his readers. Hope is what progresses the novel, therefore without hope there is nothing. The sons character is a symbol of hope to the father throughout the novel. In the father's perspective the son is almost described as holy, "if he is not the word of god. god never...show more content... McCarthy utilizes food as a sign of hope. Throughout the novel the father and son are constantly fighting the struggle of running low on food. When they find the bunker of food the text is full of short sentences "Canned hams.", "Corned beef" which emphasizes the father's joy and almost disbelief of how hopeful the future will be with the abundance of good. The way the father also repeatedly says "oh my god," when throughout the book he maintains a fairly non–religious view, shows how it finding this food gives the father hope. Other than the boy the father has hope in very few things. But one thing which is shown throughout The Road is the father's sense of morals. The father always reassures the boy and himself that they are the good guys which gives them the hope to keep persevere because they are, to the father, keeping goodness in the world alive, "carrying the flame." Cormac McCarthy presents the cannibals as a lost hope in The Road. They are almost only referred to as the "bad guys" and are described as if they are animals with no hope other than to survive. Choe 3 In the father's dream an animalistic creature is scared off by the man and the boy, symbolizing how humanity after the end of the world is something to be afraid of. Also in this dream the father and the son are holding a light, "Their light playing over the wet flowstone walls," which could be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Cycle Of Hope Essay Examples I had not thought much about people with a disability. But, once I read Cycle of Hope, I realized my life can change in an instance. People with a disability are very determined and strong–minded. People with a disability that are confided to a wheelchair can carry out anything that they put their mind too. Just because someone has a disability, it doesn't mean they can't leave their life to the fullest. They can live a normal life just like me, even though they are in a wheelchair. With today's technology, they can drive a car, live own their own and enjoy their everyday life. Disability people can hold down a full–time job and live on their own. • 6. Hope Poem Analysis "Hope" by Lisa Mueller is a poem that entranced me from the moment that I read the first syllable. The picture that she painted with her elegant words pulled me into the beige colored pages of my textbook and mesmerized me throughout all four stanzas. "Hope" inspired its desired effect as each word in this poem washed over me with an awe–aspiring feeling. This poem made me feel almost unworldly as it persuaded me to reach out and grasp for my own aspirations. Mueller's poem also awakened the realization that no matter how discouraged I might be, hope will always prevail and pick me back up once more. Lisa Mueller's "Hope" indicates that hope is something that we all long for; we all hope for good fortune, fine weather, happier times, love, and success. Hope plays a crucial role in our everyday lives, as it fuels and motivates us to accomplish our goals, such as getting a promotion, having a child with the person you love, or finding your place with God. We are surrounded by hope; it is existential, spiritual and pragmatic. It is the essence of our being. Mueller writes that hope can be found in dark corners, in mushroom gills, on dandelions and on the wings of green angels (1–8). The first stanza of "Hope" insinuates that hope can be found anywhere and at any time, as it references the strange places where hope hides, like dark corners and on the wings of green angels. The dark corners represent the dark times in our lives, comparatively to receiving a demotion, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Hope Is There Hope is Always There In the poem, "Hope", the author, Emily Dickinson, is writing a message in the poem. The poem explains how hope lives in your soul and could never run out. It is best in the hardest times and but could be ruined. It is known to be everywhere but never needs anything in return. The message that Emily Dickinson's trying to say is that in life things would bring you down but then hope is always there with you and bring us back up . One example is when Emily Dickinson is showing the message is when she talks about when hope is there for us. "In the Gale is heard" ( pg. 39 l.5). • 9. Persuasive Essay About Hope What does it mean to suffer? To suffer is defined as "undergoing or feeling pain or distress" ("Suffer"). People can suffer in several different ways and in different degrees such as being left out in their circle of friends or being physically assaulted. Joyce Carol Oates, a famous American writer states, "One simply cannot know strengths unless suffering, misfortune, and violence are explored." Hope is defined as "the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best" ("Hope"). Through suffering, one can discover hope. In Emma Donoghue's novel "Room," Old Nick, a rapist, has imprisoned Jack and Ma in a miniscule room. Desperate for freedom, Ma and Jack devise a strategic plan for both of them to escape. After their escape, Jack becomes shocked with a major culture change because he has never seen the outside world. Thus, he must learn to adapt to the outside world. This essay explores how one can find hope through multiple episodes of suffering. The best way Jack's life discloses how suffering stimulates the exploration of hope is through encountering freedom in confinement, love in adversities, and courage in fear. Jack discovers hope by experiencing freedom in confinement. Through the tiny narrow room, Jack up and sees "one of those floaters in [his] eye, but it's not. It's a little line making a thick white streak on the sky. 'An airplane'" (Donoghue 91)! The airplane is the first sign of hope that Jack experiences. When Jack Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Hope Emily Dickinson is a famous poet from the Romantic Period. "Hope is the thing with feathers" is one of her many poems. It is a poem that talks about hope through metaphorical terms of a bird. I chose "Hope is the thing with feathers" as my poem because I am a very hopeful person and very much agree with meaning of this poem. "Hope is the thing with feathers" is, not surprisingly, about hope. The first two lines read, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul," (1–2). The metaphor in these lines, along with the delicate phrasing of the poem, contributes to the creation of an image of hope that is like a dove, wholly pure and good. The next couple lines, "And sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all," (3–4) let us know there is always hope. Shortly after these lines, Emily Dickinson writes, "...kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chilliest land, and on the strangest sea," (8–10) letting us know that hope is everywhere and it has helped many people through many hard times. The last two lines read, "Yet,...show more content... One characteristic of the poem that helps define it as a Romantic poem is it includes a bird. Poets from the Romantic Period often incorporated nature in their poems. Another hint that this poem may be from the Romantic Period is that hope is quite an imaginative subject. Authors from the Romantic Period really valued imagination. The poets also wrote with, and valued emotion. I'm not sure if hope classifies as an emotion, but it is close enough that poets from the Romantic Period would value hope too. Poets from the Romantic Period also tried to write their poems very smoothly, and this poem was written very smoothly. "And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm" (5–6) were two lines that were written particularly smoothly because of the use of the "s" sounds in the alliteration. Clearly, this is a poem from the Romantic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Hope Definition Essay People who have not been around hard times do not understand what hope does for others. I learned the true definition of hope when all my world came crashing down around me. I needed the feeling that everything would turn out for the best. Hope is belief or faith and is not doubt or hatred and I want everyone to have hope when they are done reading this. Some people have mounds of hope where others will never have any. One example,is the movie Heaven is for Real, they show the true meaning of hope. Coleton's family has their faith tested when he ends up in the hospital. He ended up needing emergency surgery on his appendix. Throughout the movie Coleton tells his parents about his experience with heaven, how he got to meet God and talk with him. Also he believes that everything will go how the family needs because that is what God told him. Even though the parents had very little belief of their son's story the more he talks about it the more they wonder if he might be telling the truth. In the end the whole town ends up believing the boys story about how God saved him and spoke with him. • 12. Hope, struggle, and determination are the three words I use to describe my high school career. My parents have always held me to high expectations that most people in my situation would never think about, but their highest goal for me was that I attend college. We grew up poor due to my parent's divorce when I was only eight–years–old, and I struggled with severe depression and anxiety my entire life; conversely, my goal is to continue to still strive to make my parents proud and attend college. Moreover, I keep up my grades and fight to reach the so–close–yet–so–far dream my parents put in motion for me. I am the first person in my entire family to attend college, despite the seemingly daunting task; I am not afraid because I have a had a...show more content... This has been proved to me through the kind words and helpful advice of my teachers who go out everyday to inspire their students at Harbor Beach High School. Their work has truly touched me, and made me confident in my hopes of college. Challenge creates determination; my mental illness has challenged me my entire life, but without it I would never be as determined as I am to go to college and become a social worker. Through all of the struggles I have went through these fast–paced 17 years of life, my parents have supported me through it all. They held me while I cried and felt hopeless, they worked hard to give me all the things I have needed, and supported and encouraged me to follow my dreams of attending college. So, when I say I describe my high school experience in the three words hope, determination, and struggle I truly do mean it. Despite the struggles, I have overcome with determination, and after the struggles were overcome I was left with the purest form of hope. Therefore, I believe I deserve a scholarship because I never put my goal of attending college on the back burner; it has always been on the forefront of my mind. I cannot let my hard work these past 17 years go to waste. I hope that through this hard work I may be considered for a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Paper On Hope The words hope and suffering could not be more opposite. Naturally, hope is a positive word and suffering is a negative one. However, if we pay attention we can see that although these words have entirely different meanings, they interact with each other. We may not know why suffering occurs, but what we do know is there is hope. Throughout this paper, I will be discussing the meaning of hope, how we are to receive it and the church's response to it. Then, I will contrast with meaning of suffering, why it is present in the world and the church's response to it. With all this said, I will finally discuss my beliefs on both subjects. In order to understand how we are to obtain hope, we must first define it. Merriam Webster...show more content... There can be multiple sources of hope. We receive hope from the people around us, God, ourselves, events, and many other sources. However, it is up to us whether or not we will believe it and keep it. "One study of children revealed that hope emerges through interactions with the people who surround us." Of course, this all depends on who we spend our time with. Unfortunately, there are people who suck the hope out of us. If we are not careful we can be trapped in their hopelessness. Luckily, there is hope for hope. "But the children Bidwell studied revealed that hope is a social resource. It emerges through interactions with the people who surround us and is then internalized." Hope is also a response to opposing forces. We have the opportunity to either run from adversity or face it. Even when facing it, we can decide whether or not to hold our heads high. If we go into a tough situation already defeated, our likelihood of losing is greater. Hope emerges in unlikely circumstances. You cannot hope for something you already have. Hope is a choice. It is in the middle of adversity where we have the opportunity to choose hope "True hope takes into account the real threats that exist and seeks to navigate the best path around them." Researchers identified five main pathways to hope. The first pathway is identity through participation in social gatherings. The second is realizing you are not alone. The third is monitoring and maintaining Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Hope by Emily Dickinson Essay Hope by Emily Dickinson As a literary woman of the nineteenth century, Emily Dickinson wrote, ? ?Hope? is a things with feathers– that perches in the soul– and sings a tune without the words– and never stops– at all.? Are you listening? Does your soul too sing a melody, an ongoing tune to which you delicately move, and never stop? Here Dickinson suggests an aspect of life, a struggle for spiritual freedom, that applies to many women within the nineteenth century, as well as the women of today. My consciousness speaks to me; a spark of hope rests inside my soul, hoping to emerge into the sunlight of each new day. I am a woman; I am a delicate woman who listens to Dickinson?s fine words. Her ongoing journey is to find the key that opens the door of her restraining world. On a late moonlit night, early in the book, Edna lingers on the outskirts of her room despondently; her husband attempts to lure her back into the house with authority. ? She wondered if her husband had ever spoken to her like that and if she had submitted to his command? (Chopin 78). Edna feels controlled and helpless by the walls and people which surround her; she needs to be relieved of the familiarity of the situation to be spiritually satisfied. ?The pigeon–house (which she lives in) pleased her? The glove restricts her from being free to the outside world. She needs to throw away the glove that she is familiar with and disgusted by. Despite the recurring nature of the theme of hope, it is not portrayed in a completely favorable light. In fact, there is a complex attitude towards the nature of hope as shown through the narrator Nick. He believes hope is a human instinct, but it is something undoubtedly pointless in the long run. Nick seems to believe that hoping for things is redundant. That no matter what the things that people hope for will either never happen or they will never achieve their goals. As...show more content... As previously stated, Gatsby is murdered before he can achieve the future he is hoping for, thus proving Nick's belief that hope is a pointless feeling as one never reaches the outcome they want. However, while Nick felt the idea of hope was all in all a pointless endeavor, he still believes that hope is something people can't help but feeling. He believes that everyone can't help but hope or wish for something better, that it is just a part of human nature. For example, "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past" (182). The use of diction, specifically with the phrases beat on and ceaselessly, create a confident tone that defines human nature. Beat on shows how restless Nick believes humans to be. He believes that no matter what happens, they will pick themselves up again and continue on with their lives. This is shown in Daisy's actions when Gatsby died. Nick watches as rather than face the consequences of what she did, she picks up her family and moves on with her life, thus cementing the idea of this is how humans act into Nick's mind. Similarly, the use of ceaselessly shows Nick's belief that people refuse to quit and that they will continue tirelessly until they reach what they want in life. He sees this through Gatsby. Gatsby threw extravagant parties every week in order to attract Daisy's attention. He refused to stop, continuing this trend for years until she finally waltzed back into his life. • 18. Definition Essay On Hope Hope is surprisingly difficult to define and may be expressed in many ways. Overall, I feel that a good definition for hope would be that it is an optimistic and expectant desire that emerges from a stressor. It is a coping mechanism deeply rooted in motivation. It is the opposite of despair and fear as well as the influence that keeps us from succumbing to them. Hope can be identified as a means of perseverance as well as perseverance itself. Hope is the ability to detect even the smallest amount of light in the darkest of places. The origin of hope can be disputed. Its roots can be considered cognitive, emotional, or spiritual. The answer depends on whom you ask. In my own personal experience, hope has been a feeling attached to a moment of overcoming despair in a time of crisis. I asked two other people where they thought that hope originated. One of the individuals that I asked felt that hope was a goal–oriented mindset that stemmed from a feeling. The other individual believed that hope was an emotion that came from the mindset. If a...show more content... I can decipher what constitutes a better tomorrow and the changes we need because I can see the areas that we need to improve. This notion of a better world sets the stage for hope because I know it is both necessary and a step in the right direction. In other words, it is my desire to see the world as a better place that allows me to hold on to hope. In order to help people build hope in their lives, one would first have to identify the factors that are obstructing it. One place to start would be to begin identifying the individual's distal stress factors, their resiliency, and their access to resources. The next step would include addressing these factors and focusing on ways to empower the individual. Once hope is established among people in a community, it can be an important binding factor as well as a source of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Reflection Paper About Hope Charles R Snyder, a well known psychologist, spoke about home and once said hope includes three elements: a goal, a path, and a belief. The person who is hopeful will believes that they will succeed. Secondly, the person will have a specific goal, direction or destination they are trying to reach. Thirdly, the person knows the route or path they will have to take in order to achieve their desired outcome. That is why, hope is a mindset, the will and determination to believe that one will overcome. Hope also can provide you with a map of the route on how to achieve the desired outcome. I agree but to me it's more of a feeling of expectation that we get when we have a desire for something to happen whether it is for us or someone else. It is when we have centered expectations. People hope for all types of things everyday, sometimes they happen and sometimes they don't. We have no control over what happens over time. I've been in hospital settings more times than I could ever imagine and I always see others hoping for something, whether it is for their loved ones to be okay after a tragic accident, or after a major surgery all I see is hope. Sometimes I find myself hoping that if they can't do anything to help their situation, there is something that they can do to help anyone else in a similar situation. Not everyone has a happy ending but small acts like that can go a long way. Another way I picture hope is how young girls waiting in line to buy tickets to their favorite singer, or to see any type of show and not wanting them to be sold out before they can get to the window and buy them, especially when they are at the end of the line with many many people in front of them. Hope can be used in many different ways too. Everyone has said something they regret with the word "hope" in the sentence. When that hopeful wish is fulfilled, then sometimes we experience regret. Hope is an emotion that looks different for everyone, but we all almost share the same feelings and thoughts towards it. Along most people of the country, I have high hopes for this place I call home. More now than ever I always hope that one day, we can get to a place as to where we don't treat other people different because of the color of their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Hope, by definition means to look forward to something with reasonable desire and confidence. Hope also means a person or thing in which expectations are centered. When discussing the word hope, one must consider the core values by which the word works around. You could hope for financial success, world peace, or simply hope for some good out of your day. In 2006, Barack Obama wrote the political biography The Audacity of Hope to outline his core political and spiritual beliefs, as well as his opinions on different aspects of American culture. The Illinois senator divided the book into nine chapters, each concentrating on both his own and the United States' successes and failures in local and state politics. While revealing great...show more content... Senator Obama is a Christian whose religious views developed in his adult life. He wrote in The Audacity of Hope that he "was not raised in a religious household"(241). Obama explained how, through working with black churches as a community organizer while in his twenties, he came to understand "the power of the African–American religious tradition to spur social change." With this in mind, I believe chapters 6 and 7 are perfect examples of ethos in this novel, describing racial heritage, racial equality, and faith. In chapter 6, Obama attacks the issue of religious faith, mainly focusing on roots and influence of the Democrats growing uneasiness with the displays of religious faith. Because this is such a controversial topic, I must say, I was a little skeptical as to how he would present his arguments, to a group of readers with such a variety of opinions. I was intrigued when Obama recounted his own journey from atheism to faith, contending that the structure of religion has invigorated and expanded his moral beliefs. Due to the high degree of religiosity reported in polls of Americans, he contends that regaining a sense of ease with religion is the only way that the Democrats will be able to connect with a majority of the public. By using this cause/consequence approach to how we should handle religion, he makes people understand that we should only respect each other's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
