Safety Improvement Research Paper
I decided to do safety improvements because people are becoming more reliant on technology. They
go out on the road thinking they can do what they want and technology will just correct what they
did. Technology can malfunction and will not always work so they could end up causing a crash.
One example of a new safety improvement is Lane–Keep Assist. What this does is if you start to go
into a different lane without a blinker it will correct you and put you back in the right lane. There
is a few issues with this you can turn on and off but you have to find it when you are trying to
drive. Also, the camera is in the back of the rear view mirror and if something is blocking it it will
not be able to work right. The second safety improvement is

Water Safety
Definition, Prevalence, & Incidence
Water safety is taught to people of all ages in hope to prevent submission and skin injuries such as
drowning and burns. Drowning is a worldwide problem with profound economic and health impact.
The World Health Organization estimates that each year, about 388,000 people die fromdrowning.
An additional 100,000 people suffer severe injuries from near drowning and secondary drowning
(Forjuoh 2013). Drowning can happen at any moment and at any time, regardless of age and the
amount of water. In the United States, drowning is the second leading cause of death of
unintentional injuries in children aged 1–14 years old. Males have an overall mortality rate than
females due to their riskier behavior. Incidences tend to happen more in the summer, when children
are out of school and when most go swimming. Chil dren with access to water, such as nearby pools
and lakes tend to also have higher incidences of drowning; however, it's important to understand that
the only water needed to drown is enough to cover the nose and mouth. Therefore, it is important to
teach others in our community the importance of water safety.
Water Safety in the Home
"Toddlers are top heavy and they can fall headfirst into buckets and drown." ("In Home Danger"
2016.) Water safety in the home consists of keeping open items of water attended to at all times.

Safety on construction site
You are about to visit a construction site. It will be your first visit to this site. Describe how you
would approach the site from a SAFETY point of view; identify the likely hazards you may
encounter and what precautions you can take to minimise the risk of injury to others and yourself.
Safety assignment The construction industry has a not so good reputation in health and safety
having 70% of people killed in their first two weeks of visiting a live site. In order to put this in
the past I must know exactly what to do when visiting a live site for the fist time. This report will

Addressing Safety in Home Care Essay
A universal aspiration for all Registered Nurses (RN) and workplace environments is to create a
safe atmosphere for both the client and employees. The RN has an obligation to ensure, "a culture
of safety by using established occupational health and safety practices, and other safety measures to
protect client, self and colleagues from injury or potentially abusive situations" (Saskatchewan
Registered Nurses' Association, 2007, p. 11). This competency guides RN's to provide and advocate
safe practice environments. Thus, the issue this paper will discuss is Occupational Health and
Safety (OH&S). The population being focused on is home care, which is, "care provided to patients
in their homes to restore their functional capacity, to allow...show more content...
A significant implication of enforcing a safe work environment in home care, is if OH&S
regulations are not correctly enforced, employees may not report the incident or potential incident
that transpired within a home (O.S., personal communication, September 20, 2011; Quinn et al.,
2009). Safety within home care is unique, mostly because a home is created for living and not for
healthcare (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Supported by the lack of home care based technology and
lack of team support within a home (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Within a hospital setting assistance
from other employees is down the hallway, unlike a client's home (Lang & Edwards, 2009). Most of
client safety research took place within an institution setting, therefore making the findings difficult
to generalize to a home care environment (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Another significant risk is
violence, which can occur in unsafe neighborhoods, or the client or family member as the abuser,
with verbal abuse being the most common (as cited in Geiger–Brown, Muntaner, McPhaul,
Lipscomb, & Trinkoff, 2007). Managers Approaches Altogether O.S. oversees approximately 60
employees, who include Home Health Aides and the scheduling employees for home care (personal
communication, September 20, 2011). This acknowledges that O.S has a wide span of

Descriptive Essay About Home
My definition for home cannot be described by words or by a simple thought, but home is rather
of a feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold snowy
night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand
where exactly that place was, and I didn't know that the answer was always right in front of me.
This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the
house I lived in was my home. I never realized that the place I lived was not my home, that home
was in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say.
When I was younger, I lived in the Philippines, my backyard were the rice fields and I would...show

During lunch, my grandma and mother would cook in the kitchen and set up the food in the big
picnic basket to later share with everyone. We would walk along to thefield and my job was to carry
the cold water jug. As we reached the field, all the farmers would smile and greet us, and some
would even admire me for being such a helper. At lunchtime, I sat there along with all those
workers, eating with them and listening. Their conversations mostly consists of the weather and
how they could improve the rice farm. Often, I would make a comment saying, "Don't worry, I will
help", and they loved me. I was the farm's little helper–––this was my home.
There was a tiny pond with a small bridge in beside our old house. The water was so clear that you
could see your reflection, just like a mirror. The summer was the fishing season; I was on a mission.
I had my bright–pink, half gallon bucket in one hand and a little piece of mosquito net on the other.
I wore my shorts and my favourite T–shirt, with my long hair tied back, a true fisher look, I thought.
I put my biggest toe in first to check the temperature of the water, but I always ended up soaking
myself all the way, up to my head trying to catch the fish –– now that's working hard! My friends
and I filled that bright–pink bucket full and our hearts were filled with the sense of

Home Inspection Essay
Many homeowners are sincere but they do not know the exact state of the homes that they intend
to put in the market. They may have the desire to disclose any deficiencies in the home but their
knowledge is limited. For example, most homeowners will not go into a crawlspace or climb their
roof in order to ascertain the state of those areas. The conditions of the roof or the crawlspace may
need repairs but the homeowner may be unable to provide the information that you need. A good
home inspector can help to uncover all the details that need to be addressed in a given building.
What is the cost of carrying out Home inspection?
There are many issues that determine the cost of home inspection. The age of the building, the size

It pays to invest the right amount of time in order to get the best results.
Is there a guideline that a Home inspector must observe when he is carrying out his assignment?
Various States ensure that Home inspectors are licensed before they are permitted to operate in the
State. When this is in place, such States also give rules or standards in which the home inspection
exercise is carried out. It is the obligation of the Home inspector to align to any rules given by the
State. On the contrary, if the Home inspector works in a State where they do not have rules
governing their operations, the inspector is bound to follow any rule that suits his purpose.
As a professional organization, we align with the rule set by some leading Home Inspection
professional oversight bodies.
How can I tell if a Home Inspector is licensed?
One of the basic requirements for licensing is that the Home inspector must have the right insurance
cover. Also, they must show you the proof of their license. In all, the easiest way to know if a
Home inspector is licensed is to ask them.
It is important to mention that we are licensed home inspectors in Miami. Everyone on our team has

What is Home? Essay
What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one
lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who
has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete
description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is
not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where
one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A
home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a
person of countless memories and values when he walks through a...show more content...
Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have
every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone
to share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief,
and material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that
mean the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable
memories with one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a
feeling of contentment and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is
when one knows they are with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people
can make them happy in a second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through,
no matter how challenging life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a
place is their home when they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves,
because they know that they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where
they can do anything they please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the
absurdity of their day without any remorse or repercussions. The reason why people say that a
person only has one true home is because one will

Safety in a workplace also describes policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety and
health of employees within a workplace which involves hazard identification and control
according to government standards and ongoing safety training and education for employees.
Safety training is a federal law that oversees the requirement of an employer to provide
employees with a workplace free from hazardous conditions. Employees must be responsible to
ensure they are taking all the precautions to protect themselves and their fellow workers. Safety
training is a major concern in today's workplace for both employers and employees in which
action have been taken to overcome this problem. This research of workplace safety training was
conducted by the following: using internet to browse different safety training websites, books,
magazines, and library, also a personal interview. This information will give us a clear
understanding of why safety training is important in a workplace and to ensure safety is being
followed. Discussion of findings Workplace injury statistics This research will indicate the
statistics of injuries in the workplace by showing how blue collar jobs have more injuries than

Effects Of Remote Home Safety Assessments
Effects of On–site/Remote Home Safety Assessments in Elderly Populations Fall–Related Injuries
Falls and fall–related injuries have a significant impact on the elderly population. One out of three
older community–living adults fall each year causing a deteriorated quality of life, suffering, need
for care, increased health care expenses, and decreased productivity (Quigley, Palacios & Spehar,
2006). According to Al–Faisal (2006), one half to two thirds of these falls happen in the older
adult's home, and are usually a result of unsafe home environments. Many experiments have studied
factors that influence the risk of falls, and recent hospital discharges seems to be associated with
this risk. Mahoney and colleagues (2000) conducted a study that concluded the rate of falls was
significantly increased in the first month after being discharged from the hospital. Their findings
also showed that 15% of all re–hospitalizations within the first month after discharge were
contributable to fall–related injuries. Nonetheless, the elderly population who is at risk for falls is
constantly growing. Adults 85 and older are estimated to be the fastest growing population group
and this longevity is altering the connections between home, quality of life, and short and long
term care (Horowitz, Nochajski, & Schweitzer, 2013). Need for Home Safety Assessments
Specifically, older Veterans are at a high risk for anticipated physiological falls (Quigley et al.,
2006). Many Veterans and older

Fire Prevention Essay
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a
standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability
to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs
to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter
material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction,
homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and
defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the
home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very...show more content...
Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has
given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire alarms: ionization and
photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs,
photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination
smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke
alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need
to changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no
action on the fire itself.
Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of
large quantities of people, have made their way into our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed
into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition,
sprinklers typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to
two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. The same website notes that if both fire
alarms and fire sprinkler are installed in a

Importance of Fire Safety in Building
A sound knowledge of building construction is essential for every fire & safety engineer, as is an
understanding of the principles of structural fire protection. This knowledge with the experience
gained on the fire ground will enable him to assess how building will behave when involved in fire.
The construction of building and the degree of fire protection built into the structure have important
bearings on all aspects of fire service functions, be it carrying out rescue of fires, adopting effective
firefighting methods, assessing means of escapes requirements or recommendations on fire safety in
the buildings.
Effective fire safe design begins with conscious analysis and decision–making early in the design
process. The architectural design of a building has a significant influence on its fire safety
capabilities and performance. In addition to the design of the structure and shell of the building
itself, the interior layout, circulation patterns, interior finish materials, and building services are all
important factors in the parameter of fire safety in the buildings.
The primary concept of creating fire safety in structures today involves the philosophy that the
building itself must be designed to be either self–protecting or self–controlling from fire and fire
spread. This is particularly important as buildings become more complex and exhibit features that
are contradictory to fire department operation. A building should not be

The Safety Of Construction Sites
Introduction The CDM regulations were put in place to help improve the overall safety of
construction sites. Systems were put in place to help eliminate hazards from as early as the design
process whilst effectively communicating and cooperating throughout the lifetime of the job. In
2015 details had been updated and changed from the 2007 regulations that will be explored later
in this report. Also covered in this report is the Lofstedt review which explores the 2007 CDM
Regulations discovering potential flaws whilst also suggesting improvements that are to be made.
Task 1 The Lofstedt report reviews the entirety of the health and safety acts and regulations
conducted by Professor Ragnar E Lofstedt to help reduce the burden of health and safety regulations
on business whilst conintuing to maintain the standard of health and safety that has developed over
the years. The report overall did in fact conclude that there would be no need to make major
changes to the current regulations however a couple of amendments could improve the regulations
in a business sense as well as for health and safety (Lofstedt, 2011). Lofstedt Report Findings and
Suggestions 1.One of the first findings stated in the report was that currently health and safety
regulations apply to people self–employed however other countries apply the legislation only to
those engaged in activities that are particularly hazardous or carry a risk of injury or harm to others
(Lofstedt, 2011). Therefore the report

even though survived people constantly wrote messages saying that they hope she died and
perhaps she should use a different kind of bleach this time. A year later she hung herself because
it was too much for her to take. Cyber bullying is a major issue and so there are 45 laws about and

Castle Doctrine in Conjunction with Home Safety
Stop right there intruder! The Castle Doctrine's premise, frequently credited to Semayne's Case
(Light, 2012), "[e]very man's house is his castle" ("Semayne's case," 1604), is a citizen's right to
protect, with deadly force, their life and property when an intruder enters unlawfully into their
dwelling. This is unlike most self–defense laws, which require withdrawing from harms path until
you are backed into a corner and have no other exit (Light, 2012). While residing in one's dwelling,
everyone should feel secure without the worry of intrusion, burglary, or bodily harm. The rights
defined by the Castle Doctrine have become imperative in the last decade due to the decreased use of

The Castle Doctrine provides an umbrella under which residents can protect themselves (Light,
2012) when police are unable to arrive to the scene in a reasonable amount of time. During a home
invasion, seconds are the difference between life and death. While average response times range in
the minutes, lethally protecting yourself in your home can be substantially shorter. This doctrine
takes some protection burden from police and allows citizens to protect themselves without fear of
criminal liability. Not only are police response times increasing, so are violent crimes in the U.S.
According to D. Leger (2013) "Violent crime in the United States rose for the second year in a
row", these figures are off a 2012 survey conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The Federal
Bureau of Investigations constitutes violent crimes as murder, forced rape, robbery, and aggravated
assault ("Crime in the," 2012). Residents need to have a legal shield for protecting themselves
during a violent crime inside their home; this legal shield is the Castle Doctrine (Light, 2012).
Violent criminals do not have regards about laws that law–abiding citizens have. They will inflict
bodily harm to cover their illicit activities without the worry of legal repercussions. Law–abiding
citizens should have the right and

psychosocial changes, cognitive changes, as well as, a decline in function. These progressive
alterations put them in the high–risk category for many things. Fortunately, the majority of the
populations are aware of the more predominant safety risks the older adult face such as falls and

Home Safety Essay

  • 1. Safety Improvement Research Paper I decided to do safety improvements because people are becoming more reliant on technology. They go out on the road thinking they can do what they want and technology will just correct what they did. Technology can malfunction and will not always work so they could end up causing a crash. One example of a new safety improvement is Lane–Keep Assist. What this does is if you start to go into a different lane without a blinker it will correct you and put you back in the right lane. There is a few issues with this you can turn on and off but you have to find it when you are trying to drive. Also, the camera is in the back of the rear view mirror and if something is blocking it it will not be able to work right. The second safety improvement is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Importance Of Water Safety Water Safety Nieshma Herbert Tarrant County College August 4, 2017 Water Safety Definition, Prevalence, & Incidence Water safety is taught to people of all ages in hope to prevent submission and skin injuries such as drowning and burns. Drowning is a worldwide problem with profound economic and health impact. The World Health Organization estimates that each year, about 388,000 people die fromdrowning. An additional 100,000 people suffer severe injuries from near drowning and secondary drowning (Forjuoh 2013). Drowning can happen at any moment and at any time, regardless of age and the amount of water. In the United States, drowning is the second leading cause of death of unintentional injuries in children aged 1–14 years old. Males have an overall mortality rate than females due to their riskier behavior. Incidences tend to happen more in the summer, when children are out of school and when most go swimming. Chil dren with access to water, such as nearby pools and lakes tend to also have higher incidences of drowning; however, it's important to understand that the only water needed to drown is enough to cover the nose and mouth. Therefore, it is important to teach others in our community the importance of water safety. Water Safety in the Home "Toddlers are top heavy and they can fall headfirst into buckets and drown." ("In Home Danger" 2016.) Water safety in the home consists of keeping open items of water attended to at all times. Examples of open items Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Addressing Safety in Home Care Essay A universal aspiration for all Registered Nurses (RN) and workplace environments is to create a safe atmosphere for both the client and employees. The RN has an obligation to ensure, "a culture of safety by using established occupational health and safety practices, and other safety measures to protect client, self and colleagues from injury or potentially abusive situations" (Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association, 2007, p. 11). This competency guides RN's to provide and advocate safe practice environments. Thus, the issue this paper will discuss is Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S). The population being focused on is home care, which is, "care provided to patients in their homes to restore their functional capacity, to allow...show more content... A significant implication of enforcing a safe work environment in home care, is if OH&S regulations are not correctly enforced, employees may not report the incident or potential incident that transpired within a home (O.S., personal communication, September 20, 2011; Quinn et al., 2009). Safety within home care is unique, mostly because a home is created for living and not for healthcare (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Supported by the lack of home care based technology and lack of team support within a home (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Within a hospital setting assistance from other employees is down the hallway, unlike a client's home (Lang & Edwards, 2009). Most of client safety research took place within an institution setting, therefore making the findings difficult to generalize to a home care environment (Lang & Edwards, 2006). Another significant risk is violence, which can occur in unsafe neighborhoods, or the client or family member as the abuser, with verbal abuse being the most common (as cited in Geiger–Brown, Muntaner, McPhaul, Lipscomb, & Trinkoff, 2007). Managers Approaches Altogether O.S. oversees approximately 60 employees, who include Home Health Aides and the scheduling employees for home care (personal communication, September 20, 2011). This acknowledges that O.S has a wide span of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Descriptive Essay About Home My definition for home cannot be described by words or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold snowy night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand where exactly that place was, and I didn't know that the answer was always right in front of me. This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my home. I never realized that the place I lived was not my home, that home was in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say. When I was younger, I lived in the Philippines, my backyard were the rice fields and I would...show more content... During lunch, my grandma and mother would cook in the kitchen and set up the food in the big picnic basket to later share with everyone. We would walk along to thefield and my job was to carry the cold water jug. As we reached the field, all the farmers would smile and greet us, and some would even admire me for being such a helper. At lunchtime, I sat there along with all those workers, eating with them and listening. Their conversations mostly consists of the weather and how they could improve the rice farm. Often, I would make a comment saying, "Don't worry, I will help", and they loved me. I was the farm's little helper–––this was my home. There was a tiny pond with a small bridge in beside our old house. The water was so clear that you could see your reflection, just like a mirror. The summer was the fishing season; I was on a mission. I had my bright–pink, half gallon bucket in one hand and a little piece of mosquito net on the other. I wore my shorts and my favourite T–shirt, with my long hair tied back, a true fisher look, I thought. I put my biggest toe in first to check the temperature of the water, but I always ended up soaking myself all the way, up to my head trying to catch the fish –– now that's working hard! My friends and I filled that bright–pink bucket full and our hearts were filled with the sense of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Home Inspection Essay Many homeowners are sincere but they do not know the exact state of the homes that they intend to put in the market. They may have the desire to disclose any deficiencies in the home but their knowledge is limited. For example, most homeowners will not go into a crawlspace or climb their roof in order to ascertain the state of those areas. The conditions of the roof or the crawlspace may need repairs but the homeowner may be unable to provide the information that you need. A good home inspector can help to uncover all the details that need to be addressed in a given building. What is the cost of carrying out Home inspection? There are many issues that determine the cost of home inspection. The age of the building, the size and its foundation...show more content... It pays to invest the right amount of time in order to get the best results. Is there a guideline that a Home inspector must observe when he is carrying out his assignment? Various States ensure that Home inspectors are licensed before they are permitted to operate in the State. When this is in place, such States also give rules or standards in which the home inspection exercise is carried out. It is the obligation of the Home inspector to align to any rules given by the State. On the contrary, if the Home inspector works in a State where they do not have rules governing their operations, the inspector is bound to follow any rule that suits his purpose. As a professional organization, we align with the rule set by some leading Home Inspection professional oversight bodies. How can I tell if a Home Inspector is licensed? One of the basic requirements for licensing is that the Home inspector must have the right insurance cover. Also, they must show you the proof of their license. In all, the easiest way to know if a Home inspector is licensed is to ask them. It is important to mention that we are licensed home inspectors in Miami. • 7. What is Home? Essay What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a person of countless memories and values when he walks through a...show more content... Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone to share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief, and material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that mean the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable memories with one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a feeling of contentment and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is when one knows they are with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people can make them happy in a second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through, no matter how challenging life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a place is their home when they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves, because they know that they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where they can do anything they please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the absurdity of their day without any remorse or repercussions. • 9. Effects Of Remote Home Safety Assessments Effects of On–site/Remote Home Safety Assessments in Elderly Populations Fall–Related Injuries Falls and fall–related injuries have a significant impact on the elderly population. One out of three older community–living adults fall each year causing a deteriorated quality of life, suffering, need for care, increased health care expenses, and decreased productivity (Quigley, Palacios & Spehar, 2006). According to Al–Faisal (2006), one half to two thirds of these falls happen in the older adult's home, and are usually a result of unsafe home environments. Many experiments have studied factors that influence the risk of falls, and recent hospital discharges seems to be associated with this risk. Mahoney and colleagues (2000) conducted a study that concluded the rate of falls was significantly increased in the first month after being discharged from the hospital. Their findings also showed that 15% of all re–hospitalizations within the first month after discharge were contributable to fall–related injuries. Nonetheless, the elderly population who is at risk for falls is constantly growing. Adults 85 and older are estimated to be the fastest growing population group and this longevity is altering the connections between home, quality of life, and short and long term care (Horowitz, Nochajski, & Schweitzer, 2013). Need for Home Safety Assessments Specifically, older Veterans are at a high risk for anticipated physiological falls (Quigley et al., 2006). • 10. Fire Prevention Essay Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is starting to become a standard in today's fire departments. Fire has the ability to keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our lives. There are very...show more content... Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers, technology has given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire alarms: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs, photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination smoke alarms that combine ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke alarms. Most of the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need to changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But they take no action on the fire itself. Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings and places of large quantities of people, have made their way into our homes. Fire sprinklers are being installed into residential buildings as a normal item. In a report by The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, sprinklers typically reduce chances of dying in a fire and the average property loss by one–half to two–thirds compared to where sprinklers are not present. • 11. Importance of Fire Safety in Building A sound knowledge of building construction is essential for every fire & safety engineer, as is an understanding of the principles of structural fire protection. This knowledge with the experience gained on the fire ground will enable him to assess how building will behave when involved in fire. The construction of building and the degree of fire protection built into the structure have important bearings on all aspects of fire service functions, be it carrying out rescue of fires, adopting effective firefighting methods, assessing means of escapes requirements or recommendations on fire safety in the buildings. Effective fire safe design begins with conscious analysis and decision–making early in the design process. The architectural design of a building has a significant influence on its fire safety capabilities and performance. In addition to the design of the structure and shell of the building itself, the interior layout, circulation patterns, interior finish materials, and building services are all important factors in the parameter of fire safety in the buildings. The primary concept of creating fire safety in structures today involves the philosophy that the building itself must be designed to be either self–protecting or self–controlling from fire and fire spread. This is particularly important as buildings become more complex and exhibit features that are contradictory to fire department operation. A building should not be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Safety Of Construction Sites Introduction The CDM regulations were put in place to help improve the overall safety of construction sites. Systems were put in place to help eliminate hazards from as early as the design process whilst effectively communicating and cooperating throughout the lifetime of the job. In 2015 details had been updated and changed from the 2007 regulations that will be explored later in this report. Also covered in this report is the Lofstedt review which explores the 2007 CDM Regulations discovering potential flaws whilst also suggesting improvements that are to be made. Task 1 The Lofstedt report reviews the entirety of the health and safety acts and regulations conducted by Professor Ragnar E Lofstedt to help reduce the burden of health and safety regulations on business whilst conintuing to maintain the standard of health and safety that has developed over the years. The report overall did in fact conclude that there would be no need to make major changes to the current regulations however a couple of amendments could improve the regulations in a business sense as well as for health and safety (Lofstedt, 2011). Lofstedt Report Findings and Suggestions 1.One of the first findings stated in the report was that currently health and safety regulations apply to people self–employed however other countries apply the legislation only to those engaged in activities that are particularly hazardous or carry a risk of injury or harm to others (Lofstedt, 2011).
