ABSTRACT
The efficiency is one of the important factors in quality measurement of any technique or system.
The hand movements are the complex ones, especially taken from the tip and lateral. The proper
algorithm is designed i.e ; classifiers that improve the accuracy of the hand movements for tip and
lateral, because the error performance in tip and lateral is complex. Apart from that yet simple
classifier such as the one involved in the present study, more advanced algorithms that can focus on
the specific misclassifications for each individual such as error correction code method will be
tested in future work using a larger database than we are currently using.

Academic Essay Structures and Formats
Understanding
For many years I have been taught that to write an essay I need to make sure I follow a specific set
of steps. English class, in high school, had an essay format that consisted of an introduction, a body
with at least three paragraphs, and a conclusion. The introduction was the most significant part of the
essay because it was at this point where you explained what the argument, the purpose and the main
points of it were. Furthermore, it was of utmost importance that in the introduction there was a thesis
statement, which stated what you wanted to prove with the paper. However, despite my previous
knowledge of writing, as I started college, English class or College Writing had a whole different
concept about writing your...show more content...
Personally, Appiah's essay is tough to comprehend the first time I read it because he simply
explains thoughts and never reaches his own conclusion. For me, considering my previous
knowledge, an essay without a conclusion was not an essay. However, when I read the essay for
the second time I began to feel more keen about it, and I noticed that by using this style, the essay
allowed the reader to discover his or her own conclusion. I believe that Appiah's approach to writing
an essay, without determining a specific conclusion allows the reader to discover knowledge because
by not having opinions trusted into our own thoughts, we are permitted to decide what we want to
believe.
"The Loss of the Creature" by Waker Percy, is another essay that lacks a conclusion. Percy talks
about how people are losing the ability to do or to try new things because their lives are filled
with the tales of others' experiences, and they choose to live off the possibilities that are handed
to them instead of creating their own. Percy's essay is similar to Appiah's in that they are
successful at setting forth an opinion without reaching a specific conclusion and by providing
anecdotes and examples. However, Percy's essay differs because his anecdotes are personal. He
gives examples that allow the reader to relate and compare his or her experiences with Percy's

In "Breaking the Five–Paragraph–Theme Barrier" professor Thomas Nunnally describes his
experience teaching the popular writing tool. The five–paragraph theme requires an introductory
paragraph, three middle paragraphs that each have their own ideas, and a concluding paragraph.
Nunnally believes that this writing model should only be used as a writing tool and not the backbone
to all essays (Nunnally). I agree with Nunnally's stance, but also think that by the age of sixteen,
students should no longer be given the opportunity to rely on the model for writing opportunities. **
The five–paragraph theme was created to be a general teaching tool for inexperience writers. It
allows the writers to easily formulate a structure essay. It tells you that you only need three
supporting details for your thesis and that each do not need to be in depth. Most teachers say that a
paragraph is only roughly 4–5 sentences long. As a result, if every paragraph is short then you're
only writing approximately 20–25 sentences. A writer can easily follow the structure given and
finish an essay in a well timely–manner. The model is effective for beginners, but ineffective for
professionals (Nunnally).
Until a certain point, the model is effective for writers. It is a practical, easy template that allows a
writer to quickly set up and then write an essay,...show more content...
Nunnally states its purpose to "provide[s] for effective inculcation of concepts such as unity,
coherence, and development (Nunnally)." The model is structured to unite each paragraph to each
other by using a thesis statement paragraph, three supporting paragraphs for said idea and finally, to
summarize your essay. The use of transitional words allows the author to smoothly connect each
paragraph and idea. Finally, the model develops chronologically. The author will introduce, prove
and conclude. The five–paragraph model fulfills its purpose for the inexperienced writers

America is the land of the "FREE". If a certain ISP can block websites from being viewable, is it
truly free? 樂 It will be able to slow down news/articles that speaks poorly of an ISP. This could
basically be limited freedom of press.
Why fix a system that isn't broken? We always have been free to browse anything on the internet(no
extra packages to pay to view extra things), so why it change now? It only will benefit large
companies and the majority of people are middle class, so there'll be a major difference of opinions.
Ultimately, more than half of the nation would like to keep net neutrality in play.
Additionally, it would limit creativity and also decrease jobs. There will be less people on some

Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the
Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that
the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by
millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was
originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes
that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be
used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks
discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content...
The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted.
Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches
the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go
through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley
knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals
and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character,
personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write.
On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most
basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather
that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This
allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays.
Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they
have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic
relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so,"
(232). Juxtaposition is not

What Does Reason Mean To You Essay
Reason is a quality that many people pride themselves on having. It is a quality that is very helpful
to have for dealing with normal day–to–day issues. However, when dealing with situations of a
higher magnitude, situations that have the capability to change our lives forever, it is not good to
just have reason. Sometimes, a situation must make us cast aside reason and go with our instincts.
Reason relies on knowledge, and no human being knows everything. Some say that is the definition
of what it is to be human. Reason is relatively new in the span of humanity; instinct has gotten us as
a race farther than reason ever will.
There are many limitations to the usefulness of reason. For one, reason alone can sometimes forget
to take into account the rules of an unfamiliar culture. Something that may seem obvious to one
person in one part of the world may make no sense to someone somewhere else in the world. Also,
sometimes reason can prohibit us from accepting that there are some things that in our lifetime we
will never understand and that not always knowing the answer to everything is okay. There are
some things reason alone cannot explain because we as a civilization...show more content...
Reason is a good thing to have when you are trying to decide between going for that new
promotion or say, getting on a plane and moving to Las Vegas with nothing but the clothes on
your back to try and achieve your lifelong dream of becoming a fake Elvis. Reason tells us that
that is a terrible idea, and that maybe first you should save up some money and maybe takes a
vacation to Vegas before you drop your entire life on a whim. While our heart may absolutely
adore the King of Rock and Roll, our mind tells us with reason that buying his greatest hits on
iTunes is a better way to honor his legacy. So for the average person, having a good amount of
reason is a pretty good thing to

Make America Great Again
Leaving the racism out, you should vote for Donald J. Trump. Yes, we know that he has been in
the mouth of everyone because of his racism, but he truly loves this nation. Based on his answers to
a few questions he has more great ideas than Hillary Clinton. That said, is more convenient for us as
citizens of the United States to vote for Trump. There are five points that I will share with you that
will convince you to vote for Trump. First, let's talk about college. Hillary thinks that college
tuition should be free. But, hey! "There is no such thing as free education," said Trump. Trump
thinks that college should be paid for, just that costs should be lowered. Come on, teachers won't be
working for free. Also, Hillary

End Of Life Argumentative Essay
About 564,800 Americans are expected to die of cancer, which is the second leading cause of
death in the United States, after heart disease and other terminal illnesses. There are laws that exist
to protect the public when facing life situations like an abortion or executing a dead penalty.
Advance health care directive is another document for the patients to express their health
decisions. Americans should also be protected when a patient's quality of life is poor, painful, and
miserable from a chronic disease. They should be able to obtain the right to end their life with
dignity. California recently approved the end of life option act that allows a patient to obtain a
doctor's prescribed lethal dose to finalize their life on earth....show more content...
Personally, I believe this new law should be supported by the community. Patient's quality of life
slowly deteriorates day by day as their organs start to collapse, causing an unbearable physical pain
and emotional distress. They find no joy in life anymore and descend into a deep depression on top
of their disease. Additionally, family, friends, and relatives experience the feelings of deep sorrow
from witnessing their family member declining to their death. Just as we have rights for many other
related matters, it should be now the patient's final judgment on their health care decision when
facing a poor lamentable quality of

Preparing The 'Footstool' Method For Writing
The "Footstool" method for writing is the "five–paragraph theme" consisting of an introduction, body
and conclusion. The "Footstool" method for writing is the basic principle structure of writing.
Writing consists of many purposes and formats with different techniques used to create a "good"
essay. Hjortshoj takes a analytical view towards"Footstool" essays not stating whether they are
indefinitely bad or good rather they are abused building blocks towards a more substantial essay. The
limitations of a "Footstool" essay is uniformity, redundancy and inflexibility. The "Footstool" method
follows three major rules to good writing. The first rule, each paragraph must consist of three
sentences; which the "Footstool" method follows for every paragraph. The second rule, there should
be at least three paragraphs in the body, "Footstool" suggest that you must address subtopics or
points typically three in the body. Thus the "Footstool" essay format inherently follows some rules of
good writing....show more content...
The structure is a easier more comprehensible and universal building block for writing
fundamentals. The method consists of basic parts being an introduction, body and conclusion; an
easy idea to grasp when learning to write. The "Footstool" method is arguably a "good" writing
method especially following a specific set of instructions. Through my high school years we were
taught the rhetorical triangle as a way to further our writing. The purpose of learning rhetoric was to
rejecting the idea of a format rather focusing on persuasion of a thought and the our purpose of the
writing. The rhetorical triangle could be broken down to emotions, message, and ethics. The method
focused on an appeal to these parts of

Hook: (grabs readers' attention; several sentences long) There are many types of spirits some want
to harm and some just need help or want to talk. This will help define and determine which spirit the
person is encountering.
Thesis Statement: (states topic & point) Anyone wanting to find out what spirit is haunting them or

Forecasting Statement: (may be connected to or separate from thesis) There are many way ghost or
spirits can act or present then selves to people. They can appear in the form of an orb, demonic
form, or even a full apparition or human size being. They can also haunt in many different ways that
differ from violent to non–violent hauntings. This simple paper can help identify what might be
haunting someone and how to deal with the spirit.

1st Body Paragraph: First of all, it is important to know what a ghost is. Ghosts are energy of sorts
made of people that once lived. They have no idea that they have died and have not crossed over
as of yet. There are lots of ways ghosts can make themselves known to us and how they can make
people's lives rough or even make people crazy. Who or what the spirit did or acted in life can
determine how dangerous or gentle the spirit will become. Now that people can determine what a
ghost is here are some different types of

Five Paragraph Essay
Traditional Five Paragraph Essay The one thing that is difficult about coming to college, being
around completely new strangers, is that I don't know everyone. Back at home, I knew almost
everyone in my town. I may not have been close to most of the people, but I knew who they were.
As I look around this campus, I do not recognize anyone and I can't help but wonder what kind of
person they are.
First of all, I am eighteen years old, and I have brown hair and brown eyes. I am five feet, four
inches tall and I am of average weight. I believe I am modish because I love to dress up and wear
a plentiful amount of jewelry. I usually wear sweaters, jeans and a pair of boots in the fall and
winter. For the duration of the summer, you can find me in either a dress or a bathing suit. I love
being in the sun.
Second, I am a pre–dental hygiene student here at Penn College and since I am a freshman, I live on
campus in Lancaster Hall. I have three other roommates, and they are pretty cool. One of my
roommates, Brianna, is an RA. We...show more content...

and I loved it. I also would like to go skydiving and scuba diving. I am compassionate; I put lots of
hours into fundraising events for a scholarship fund in honor of a close friend of mine that passed
away almost three years ago. We organize clothing drives, golf outings, baked good sales and t–shirt
sales. My last character trait that comes to my mind is neat. My room, car and my clothes are
always clean and tidy. My schoolwork is very organized and color coded. Also, my closet is
organized by color. I try to abstain from clutter and messiness. Needless to say, I am a bit of a clean

they pulled up he walked inside and heard people chanting "The Rez basketball fans were chanting,
"Ar–nold sucks!""(143). " as I ran onto the court, somebody in the crowed threw a quarter at me.

5 Paragraph Essay Outline
Throughout all of high school, students are taught to write papers following the outline of a
five–paragraph essay. The five–paragraph essay is a format of essay having five paragraphs: one
introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs with support and development, and one concluding
paragraph. This basic structure has proven to be effective for many students however the format
itself has been accused of being "rigid and arbitrary" as well as being accused of valuing mechanical
organizational schemes rather than in depth thinking. (1) Is the five–paragraph essay as flawed as
some people make it out to be? A five paragraph essay breaks down like this: The first paragraph
contains a one sentence (or maybe a two sentence) thesis statement, which

Step 1 – Choose a Good Topic
When writing an essay, it is important to choose a topic that is not too broad. For example, do not

football equipment, football practice, etc.

It is important to write a rough draft to share with a friend or parent to edit. When editing, ask
someone to check that you stayed on topic and used proper writing conventions, such as good
spelling, usage, mechanics and grammar.
Last, you want to write a final copy. This should be error free. It can be written in pen or typed.
Most teachers like a typed copy; however, neatly written essays in pen are acceptable as well.
Teachers generally grade an essay on the following criteria: interesting content, organization and
writing conventions.
Writing a good five paragraph essay can take some time. Do not wait until the last minute and make
sure to have someone edit it before you turn in the final copy to your teacher.

How to Write an Argumentative Essay Step by Step
Argumentative essays intimidate lots of students because of the structure an instructor expects.
Instructors will expect well–written, tightly–argued essays, but that doesn't mean the paper needs to
be twenty pages long or should refer to a dozen or more sources. What it does mean, however, is
that a student takes a stand on an issue, presents his side of the argument while refuting his
opposition, and also integrates outside sources that help support his point of view.

Five Paragraph Themes
The III Effect of the Five Paragraph Theme article by Kimberly Wesley is more about persuading
students to write other types of essays rather than just the common five paragraph essay that's been
taught for countless years. In my opinion, I prefer not to write my essays in the five paragraph
theme because it isn't remarkably conducive to not only high school students like me, but as well as
other writers. As of my own experience in writing throughout my school years, there's no doubt in
confessing that I have had more than three main ideas for a certain essay, while on the other hand,
there have been essays where I would struggle to come up with even two ideas! According to a
college student (my sister), I have been told that the FPT is not

The Writing Center Writing is often a difficult task for students, especially when having to
transition from five paragraph essays in high school, to twelve page college essays. We often
struggle with conveying our message, but have no fear, the Writing Center is here! The MSU
Writing Center is a great resource for brainstorming, editing, and obviously, WRITING. A similar
resource looked at in this review is the Math Learning Center, because it also helps students with all
varieties of the main subject at hand.
Located in Bessey Hall in room 300, the Bessey Writing Center is "the busiest and largest" of the
centers. Anyone can make an appointment on Monday to Thursday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM, and
on Friday from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. In order to get a help session, one must first sign up for an
appointment. Bessey is known for being the only Writing Center on campus that takes two hour

Butts explained to me that when students come in they begin doing solo work. While doing this, if
they have any questions they just raise their hand and someone will come over and help them work

one–on–one assistance the entire appointment. Before leaving I asked Butts the same question I gave
Kleinfeldt, "What is the main goal of the Math Learning Center"? Butts said that his main goal as a
tutor for the center was that when the student leaves they have a better understanding of how to do
the math, so that they can take the knowledge with them and be able to do things on their own.

The hand movements are the complex ones, especially taken from the tip and lateral. The proper algorithm is designed i.e ; classifiers that improve the accuracy of the hand movements for tip and lateral, because the error performance in tip and lateral is complex. Apart from that yet simple classifier such as the one involved in the present study, more advanced algorithms that can focus on the specific misclassifications for each individual such as error correction code method will be tested in future work using a larger database than we are currently using. • 3. Academic Essay Structures and Formats Understanding For many years I have been taught that to write an essay I need to make sure I follow a specific set of steps. English class, in high school, had an essay format that consisted of an introduction, a body with at least three paragraphs, and a conclusion. The introduction was the most significant part of the essay because it was at this point where you explained what the argument, the purpose and the main points of it were. Furthermore, it was of utmost importance that in the introduction there was a thesis statement, which stated what you wanted to prove with the paper. However, despite my previous knowledge of writing, as I started college, English class or College Writing had a whole different concept about writing your...show more content... Personally, Appiah's essay is tough to comprehend the first time I read it because he simply explains thoughts and never reaches his own conclusion. For me, considering my previous knowledge, an essay without a conclusion was not an essay. However, when I read the essay for the second time I began to feel more keen about it, and I noticed that by using this style, the essay allowed the reader to discover his or her own conclusion. I believe that Appiah's approach to writing an essay, without determining a specific conclusion allows the reader to discover knowledge because by not having opinions trusted into our own thoughts, we are permitted to decide what we want to believe. "The Loss of the Creature" by Waker Percy, is another essay that lacks a conclusion. Percy talks about how people are losing the ability to do or to try new things because their lives are filled with the tales of others' experiences, and they choose to live off the possibilities that are handed to them instead of creating their own. Percy's essay is similar to Appiah's in that they are successful at setting forth an opinion without reaching a specific conclusion and by providing anecdotes and examples. However, Percy's essay differs because his anecdotes are personal. He gives examples that allow the reader to relate and compare his or her experiences with Percy's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. In "Breaking the Five–Paragraph–Theme Barrier" professor Thomas Nunnally describes his experience teaching the popular writing tool. The five–paragraph theme requires an introductory paragraph, three middle paragraphs that each have their own ideas, and a concluding paragraph. Nunnally believes that this writing model should only be used as a writing tool and not the backbone to all essays (Nunnally). I agree with Nunnally's stance, but also think that by the age of sixteen, students should no longer be given the opportunity to rely on the model for writing opportunities. ** The five–paragraph theme was created to be a general teaching tool for inexperience writers. It allows the writers to easily formulate a structure essay. It tells you that you only need three supporting details for your thesis and that each do not need to be in depth. Most teachers say that a paragraph is only roughly 4–5 sentences long. As a result, if every paragraph is short then you're only writing approximately 20–25 sentences. A writer can easily follow the structure given and finish an essay in a well timely–manner. The model is effective for beginners, but ineffective for professionals (Nunnally). Until a certain point, the model is effective for writers. It is a practical, easy template that allows a writer to quickly set up and then write an essay,...show more content... Nunnally states its purpose to "provide[s] for effective inculcation of concepts such as unity, coherence, and development (Nunnally)." The model is structured to unite each paragraph to each other by using a thesis statement paragraph, three supporting paragraphs for said idea and finally, to summarize your essay. The use of transitional words allows the author to smoothly connect each paragraph and idea. Finally, the model develops chronologically. The author will introduce, prove and conclude. The five–paragraph model fulfills its purpose for the inexperienced writers Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This could basically be limited freedom of press. Why fix a system that isn't broken? We always have been free to browse anything on the internet(no extra packages to pay to view extra things), so why it change now? It only will benefit large companies and the majority of people are middle class, so there'll be a major difference of opinions. • 6. Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content... The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted. Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character, personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write. On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays. Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so," (232). • 8. What Does Reason Mean To You Essay Reason is a quality that many people pride themselves on having. It is a quality that is very helpful to have for dealing with normal day–to–day issues. However, when dealing with situations of a higher magnitude, situations that have the capability to change our lives forever, it is not good to just have reason. Sometimes, a situation must make us cast aside reason and go with our instincts. Reason relies on knowledge, and no human being knows everything. Some say that is the definition of what it is to be human. Reason is relatively new in the span of humanity; instinct has gotten us as a race farther than reason ever will. There are many limitations to the usefulness of reason. For one, reason alone can sometimes forget to take into account the rules of an unfamiliar culture. Something that may seem obvious to one person in one part of the world may make no sense to someone somewhere else in the world. Also, sometimes reason can prohibit us from accepting that there are some things that in our lifetime we will never understand and that not always knowing the answer to everything is okay. There are some things reason alone cannot explain because we as a civilization...show more content... That said, is more convenient for us as citizens of the United States to vote for Trump. There are five points that I will share with you that will convince you to vote for Trump. End Of Life Argumentative Essay About 564,800 Americans are expected to die of cancer, which is the second leading cause of death in the United States, after heart disease and other terminal illnesses. There are laws that exist to protect the public when facing life situations like an abortion or executing a dead penalty. Advance health care directive is another document for the patients to express their health decisions. Americans should also be protected when a patient's quality of life is poor, painful, and miserable from a chronic disease. They should be able to obtain the right to end their life with dignity. • 13. Preparing The 'Footstool' Method For Writing The "Footstool" method for writing is the "five–paragraph theme" consisting of an introduction, body and conclusion. The "Footstool" method for writing is the basic principle structure of writing. Writing consists of many purposes and formats with different techniques used to create a "good" essay. Hjortshoj takes a analytical view towards"Footstool" essays not stating whether they are indefinitely bad or good rather they are abused building blocks towards a more substantial essay. The limitations of a "Footstool" essay is uniformity, redundancy and inflexibility. The "Footstool" method follows three major rules to good writing. The first rule, each paragraph must consist of three sentences; which the "Footstool" method follows for every paragraph. The second rule, there should be at least three paragraphs in the body, "Footstool" suggest that you must address subtopics or points typically three in the body. Through my high school years we were taught the rhetorical triangle as a way to further our writing. • 15. Five Paragraph Essay Traditional Five Paragraph Essay The one thing that is difficult about coming to college, being around completely new strangers, is that I don't know everyone. Back at home, I knew almost everyone in my town. I may not have been close to most of the people, but I knew who they were. As I look around this campus, I do not recognize anyone and I can't help but wonder what kind of person they are. First of all, I am eighteen years old, and I have brown hair and brown eyes. I am five feet, four inches tall and I am of average weight. I believe I am modish because I love to dress up and wear a plentiful amount of jewelry. I usually wear sweaters, jeans and a pair of boots in the fall and winter. For the duration of the summer, you can find me in either a dress or a bathing suit. I love being in the sun. The five–paragraph essay is a format of essay having five paragraphs: one introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs with support and development, and one concluding paragraph. This basic structure has proven to be effective for many students however the format itself has been accused of being "rigid and arbitrary" as well as being accused of valuing mechanical organizational schemes rather than in depth thinking.
