I do this so the information is true, and also in order from which events have occurred. When I
wrote my term paper my senior year I was well organized. I was required to write about an event
in history. I chose India Uprising of 1877 as the topic of my paper. This topic was not interesting at
all, but I chose to write about it. When I finished writing my thesis and outline, I wrote note cards
about the different topics, which allowed me to gather all my information and organize it in which
different events occurred. When I was finished with the paper, it sounded and read consistently and it
all flowed together.
How These Experiences Prepared Me for College Writing
I have written many different types of papers for all of my classes throughout high school. For
my science classes, I have written several labs in the form of essays. Writing the essays was
different for me because I did not really know that science had much to do with writing. It took me
a while to gather all the information I needed to finish my lab assignments. Writing lab reports will
definitely help me in my science courses in the next four years.
The journals I have written came from my four years of high school English. Everyday I came to

A "rough draft" is something someone writes with the express purpose of getting their ideas out on
paper. Expectedly, more often than not, people will write multiple drafts before writing their final, in
an effort to get to their best paper. I was, of course, introduced to the phenomenon that is the rough

The first step is something I like to call, The Royal Rumble of Ideas. The path in which my paper
will follow as well as my thoughts and ideas are formed from the first process. The way in which
it does this, is by requiring the writer to apply an abundant amount of focus on one particular
area; whereas, the typical strategy, asks for the writer to just write (cue eye roll). If I am to

This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand
the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever
received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays
writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I
encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was
finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything
else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and
myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most
of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was

In Kelly McGonigal's TED Talk, she discusses how we have been thinking about stress in the
wrong way. While it is true that stress does have harmful health effects, a major deciding factor in
the extent of those effects is our beliefs about stress. Studies have shown that people who
experienced a lot of stress and believed it was harmful for their health had a forty–three percent
increased risk of dying. However, people who experienced a lot of stress, but did not believe it
was harmful to their health had the lowest risk of dying in the entire study. Their risk was even

You need to trust your body to handle life's challenges and remember the fact that you do not have
to face them alone. However, that is easier said than done. As a high school student who is
enrolled in advanced classes and competes on competitive sports teams, I have experienced
moderate to high levels of stress at times. Many times I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of
feats I need to accomplish by a deadline, that thinking positively about my stress does not even

over" to induce an overwhelming response in the reader's emotions through the use of irony

over again. The use of such powerful words can evoke emotions, motivations, and encouragement to
the listeners because they are not just characters put together...there is emotion behind each single
word. Cain and Abel is a story found from within the Bible about two brothers who are to give god
a sacrifice to show how sorry they were for their sins. Cain the older brother is a farmer and
decides to burn up some of his leftover hay while his brother, Abel, who tended after the sheep,
picked the biggest and best one to sacrifice. When Abel's burned brighter Cain knew that God had
rejected his gift and became livid with his brother ("The Story..." 1). Cain struck him and killed him,

The 2014–2015 school year at Gladbrook–Reinbeck was a difficult and turbulent year for everyone
involved, because of the G–R school's financial problems. Funds had been stretched to the breaking
point due to declining enrollment. The school board, which my dad was on at the time, voted to
close the school building in Gladbrook to save funds. As a result, I had work to have a quality
education and a good year, despite the drama between kids at school, the constant questions and

Even when that one perspective may not be the most accurate way of viewing something in a
particular situation, it can be tempting neglect other perspectives or "tools". The example given
in class was Freud and his psychosexual theories. Freud believed that everything we did was a

image appeared you automatically saw cowboys on horses crossing a creek. Then we were shown
a slide stating "Faces Everywhere". This time when the same exact image was shown for the
second time, you saw faces everywhere in the image. This is because you already had an idea placed

individual whilst thinking the internal functions, such as thoughts and cognition, are impossible to
observe, so they are not apart of the scientific approach to psychology. This theory is also based on
the concept of 'explaining behaviour through observation. Behaviourists assume individuals are born
as a blank state (tabula rasa), meaning they do not think biology and cognitive functions influence
our behaviour, only our environment does. A large idea that the theory hold is that behaviour can be
broken down into stimulus–response units. Stimuli are anything environmental that triggers an
individuals' senses, for example, a student being asked to complete an assignment (stimulus) would
respond by completing the assignment. Stimulus–response theories form the basis of classical or
operant conditioning, which suggests animals and humans can learn through the relation of a
response to any certain stimuli.
One strength of the Behavioural approach is that it is scientific. This is a strength because we can
measure and observe behaviour which means we get reliable results. One major weakness of the
Behavioural approach is that it ignores internal functions such as thoughts, cognition etc. For

I believe my research interests lie within the American South. I am fascinated by the historic and
economic elements of the region that I call home. I personally believe that learning about your

Lebanon lies on the eastern shore of the Mediterranea n Sea, in that part of southwestern Asia known
as the Middle East. Because of its location – at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa– Lebanon

Lebanon has four distinct geographical regions: a narrow – but fertile – coastal plain; two roughly
parallel mountain ranges that run the full length of the country – the Lebanon, which rises in the
west to an alpine hei ght of 11,000 feet while the eastern range, the anti–Lebanon, is crowned
magestically by the snow–capped Mount Hermon at 9,232 feet. The two chains of mountains shelter
between them a well–cultivated plateau extending seventy miles in length and fifteen miles in
width. This tableland is called the Bekaa. This is a fertile strip of land 110 miles long and six to
ten miles wide. Zahle, the third largest city in the country, is in the valley. The country's two most
important rivers, the Litani and the Orontes, rise in the northern Bekaa near Baalbek, a city that
dates to Roman times. The Litani flows southwest through the Bekaa Valley and then empties into
the Mediterranean Sea north of Tyre. Its waters are used for irrigation, so it becomes a mere tr ickle
by the time it gets to the sea. The
Orontes rises not far from the Litani, but it flows northward between the two mountain ranges,
wending its way into Syria. Beyond the Bekaa and the anti–
Lebanon mountains, the Syrian desert only stretches east f or about 800 miles to the valley of the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This geography has been a determining factor for millenia in keeping
Lebanon turned toward the West.
