Spanish were lead by Ferdinand Magellan a Portuguese explorer. The Spanish
ruled The philippines from 1521 to 1898.

President William McKinley demanded the US Army to go to the Philippines to
fight the Spanish to gain the land of the Philippines. The U.S. took over The
Philippines over in 1898 after the Spanish American War of 1898. The U.S. signed
the Treaty of Paris and they won control of The Philippines until 1964.
