Nelson Residence Hall, celebrated the successful first year of Thornton's boarding program, and kicked off a new homestay program. Live where you learn in a brand-new student residence, with plenty to do nearby. In 2009, 200-year-old Thornton Academy embarked on a new chapter by opening a state-of-the art dormitory. Built from the ground up, TA’s residential program offers a small, nurturing community with an 8:1 student to resident-faculty ratio.Students who live at Thornton Academy share the joys and challenges of boarding school life with a wide variety of friends, and they are thus enriched by the diversity of talents and backgrounds.  Most importantly, the quality of these friendships is deep, reflecting the shared experiences of boarding life.
Thorton Academy in 1889 By living on the grounds with faculty, students experience a unique family feeling.  Teammates, housemates, and classmates become fast friends.  Faculty members become trusted advisors and mentors, taking the time to know students well, to understand their experiences, celebrate their successes, and support them. The overall student to dorm faculty ratio is 8:1, and in all cases,  dorm parents are also student advisors.  Resident faculty advisors meet each morning with their advisees and provide daily supervision and support.  This relationship offers boarding students an informed and trusted adult who can help them make good choices, navigate difficulties, and grow in a healthy way.  Residential advisors get to know each student who lives in the house, and these teacher-student friendships are among the most meaningful of all of your Thornton relationships Mission:Thornton Academy prepares students for a changing world through a rigorous and broad-based program of academic, arts and athletic opportunities. TA challenges students to reach their potential in readiness for lifelong learning and productive participation in our dynamic world."

International Students At Camden Support Program All international students participate in a special program designed to provide them the maximum amount of support during their time living in the Philadelphia area. This program was designed in recognition of the facts that our international students are far from their homes and families, are living in a new culture and will be learning in a new language. The key features of this program are:    * All international students are mentored by our International Student Coordinator, Ms. Lisa  Borreggine, who has overall responsibility for ensuring that our international students’ time at Camden Catholic is as productive and enjoyable as possible.  To that end, Ms. Borreggine works individually with each student to select each year’s courses, review academic progress, facilitate the students’ participation in extracurricular activities and review the students’ living arrangements.  Ms. Borreggine is a highly experienced educator who teaches English at Camden Catholic.  She also is certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL).           *All new international students come to campus two weeks before the opening of school to participate in an orientation program to smooth their transition from home to an American high school.  During this time they live in Nazareth House, our on-campus dormitory, and meet other students from our community, receive an assessment of their English language ability, and take classes on how to succeed in an American classroom.  They also are given help to make arrangements for banking, medical care and music lessons (if needed) and are introduced to their host families (if they are not living on campus).  To relax, students will participate in sports on campus, tour Philadelphia and take in a baseball game.  Students should plan to arrive on campus August 21, 2011 to participate in this program.
  • 167. Camden Catholic International Students * Parents will receive written reports from the students’ teachers approximately every ten weeks regarding their progress in the classroom.  They also will receive a written report from Mrs. Borreggine at the end of each semester summarizing the students’ experiences in and out of the classroom each semester.Optional English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes Experience shows that international student success in high school is highly correlated with English language ability.  Camden Catholic therefore offers two additional ways students can enhance their knowledge of English.    * English Summer Camp  We offer a 4 week long intensive academic English program on campus from July 25, 2011 to August 19, 2011.  This program helps students with differing levels of English ability to be as ready as possible for the start of classes in September.  Participation in this program is optional but highly recommended, especially for students new to the United States.  The fee for this program is $5,700 and includes tuition, room and board and all course materials.  This program is open to all students, whether or not they attend Camden Catholic.  Please contact admissions@camdencatholic.org to apply. * ESL Classes During the Academic Year  Optional ESL instruction is also available during throughout the school year.  Classes meet for one hour, three times per week when school is in session, after the regular school day finishes.  The fee for this program is $4,500 and includes tuition and all materials.
  • 168. Camden Catholic International Students Tuition and Fees  For the coming 2011-2012 academic year the total cost for an international student’s tuition, books, room and board in our dormitory or with a host family and all school fees is $23,950.  If an agency is involved with the student’s decision to attend Camden Catholic, then that agency’s fees must be added to this amount.  Parents should expect to incur additional costs of about $250 for school uniforms. How to Apply Applications for admission in September receive preferential treatment if they are received before April 15th though are accepted until July 1st.  Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis and are communicated within two weeks of the date the applicant’s file is completed.  Transfer applications are accepted throughout the year.  Students must begin at the start of upcoming semester. To apply successfully each applicant must do the following:    Submit the online application for international students;     Submit the student’s most recent transcripts in English     Submit proof of satisfactory completion of work in the candidate's previous school.     Submit the student’s most recent TOEFL score.     Submit copies of the student’s Passport and Birth Certificate;      Submit two recommendations: one from the math teacher and the other from the English teacher;     Submit copies of the student’s immunization and health records; and     Have a SKYPE interview with a member of the admissions department.
