melting process, casting material, and casting process. There are two kinds of porosities
caused by mold material.
1. The dense subcutaneous honeycomb porosity in perpendicular wall is caused by the
working face of wet sand of fused cast azs block. Water is a gas material, a unit volume of
water become water vapor when it is heated to 1000 degrees, the volume increases 1700
times when the pressure remains constant, If the temperature is heated to casting
temperature, it may be nearly 10000 times. So water on the surface of sand mold forms many
water vapors which will form a high pressure and make the air into the edge of melt liquid,
meanwhile extending to the direction of lower resistance and then become a long type. So
during the casting process, wet sand mold is forbidden to use.
2. Subcutaneous round porosity which is single round porosity within 10 mm from the edge.
This kind of porosity is caused by the decomposed air when sand adhesive in contact with the
melt liquid, part of the air escapes from sand void, however, part of air gets into the molten
liquid of fused cast azs block due to sluggish exhaust. So it is important to note the cavity
exhaust. At the same time improving the permeability of sand mold is also important.
