7 deadly fears of public speaking

  1. 1.  Public speaking is the process and act of speaking or giving a lecture to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence , or entertain the listening audience.  Public speaking is commonly understood as face-to-face speaking between individuals and audience for the purpose of communication.
  2. 2. According to the research conducted by several people the number one fear among people is public speaking.
  3. 3.  More than 75% of the people have fear and anxiety towards public speaking.  But what makes us SO AFRAID???
  4. 4.  Any doubt you feel will show in your speech.  So when you doubt yourself, your audience will too.  Research your topic thoroughly to ensure you know what you’re talking about.
  5. 5.  Tame your nervous beast through preparation.  Gather a few friends,sit them down,and go through the motions.  Always make sure they ask questions.
  6. 6.  “And another point I want to bring up was….uh…so…” BLANK.  We’ve all been there:that moment of akward silence when you forget what you’re going to say next.  Memorizing a basic outline for your speech helps you remember your next points.
  7. 7.  You can’t always count on technology.  Nothing can throw confidence and preparation out the window like a presentation malfunction.  Arrive early to the venue and test your presentation before you present.
  8. 8.  You can’t control how the audience behaves,but you control your emotions.  Develop a thick skin and remember to always put your best foot forward.  If a joke sinks,brush it off and keep going.
  9. 9.  If you’re sheduled to speak for 45 minutes,time yourself to finish five minutes early for Q & A’S.  You can recover from a tangent if necessary.  Get a feel for how long you want to spend talking about each concept before you start to present.
  10. 10.  The unavoidable fear that something may go wrong,and a lot of times,it does.  An audience member can ask you a question you’re unable to answer, or you could get negative reactions from the entire audience.  Have a recovery plan for the failed jokes,tough questions,glitches in
  11. 11.  And The Most Important Thing To Understand About Public Speaking ?  It’s All IN YOUR HEAD  So Don’t Let Your Fears Get In The Way Of A Great Speech Or An Oppurtunity To Share Ideas.
