What is a compound sentence?
A compound sentence is a sentence that has two complete ideas.
Two complete ideas are known as clauses that are usually connected by the
words like AND, BUT or SO.
For example: I tried to speak Arabic. My friend tried to speak Spanish.
Connect the sentence with AND: I tried to speak Arabic, and my friend tried to
speak Spanish.
For example: John knows how to play football. Abdullah knows how to play
tennis.
Connect the sentence with BUT: John knows how to play football, but Abdullah
knows how to play tennis.

One of the common words used to connect two sentences (two ideas) is the
word But.
But shows a contrast, meaning it shows a difference between two ideas.
For example: I have a red car. My friend Ali has a blue car.
You can use but to connect both sentences and show a difference in two ideas.
You can say:
I have a red car, but Ali has a blue car
Whenever you have two different ideas, and you are connecting those ideas
with a comma.
For example: Hani has a broken car. Akram has a new car.
Hani has a broken car, but Akram has a new car.
