Food events this week showcase many things.
For those who like to sing their hearts out, you can reward yourself with a burger from
Hard Rock Cafe. For an unlikely combination, Nectar Restaurant hosts a gin and
cheese pairing.
Want to witness a fishy competition? This Saturday, the Oyster House will host a heated
shucking competition.
Make your way to any (or all of) these five great food events.
2. On Wednesday, April 15, let your vocal skills buy you dinner during Sing for your
Supper at the Hard Rock Cafe (1113-31 Market St.). From 5 to 7 p.m., guests will have
an opportunity to jump on stage and sing their hearts out with a live band. Each person
who performs will receive a complimentary burger.
Chef Patrick Fuery invites you to Nectar Restaurant on Thursday, April 16 (1091
Lancaster Ave.) to enjoy a gin and cheese pairing featuring Jasper Hill, Caledonia
Spirits and cheeses from Birchrun Hills, Doe Run, and Yellow Spring. Distillers will be
on site for a discussion about the pairings. The dinner is priced at $125 per person and
starts at 6:30 p.m.
Taking place on Thursday, April 16 at the Rittenhouse Hotel (210 West Rittenhouse
Square), the 2015 Spring Festival Preview Party will showcase Rittenhouse Square’s
finest culinary choices and bartenders. From 7 to 9:30 p.m., enjoy live entertainment, a
gift box raffle, and tastes from restaurants/bars. Some vendors for the evening include:
The Dandelion, a.Bar, Parc, and Ranstead Room.
The Oyster House (1516 Sansom St.) will host its 6th annual Shucking
Contest on Saturday, April 18. Starting at 2 p.m., guests can watch professional and
amateur shuckers go head-to-head in a shucking competition that’s based on speed
and accuracy. The winner of the competition will be awarded $200 and the Golden
Oyster, a shiny shell medal as top prize. Entry is $5 and gets you a taste of various
oysters. Narragansett beer will be specially priced at $3.

Taking place at the Loews Hotel (1200 Market St.) on Thursday, April 16, a wide
range of culinary options from local vendors and chefs is offered during the 2015
Flavors of Philadelphia. From 6 to 10 p.m. guests, can taste creations from chef Glen
Gross (Fat Jack’s BBQ), chef Eileen Watkin (Penne Wine and Bar),chef Thomas
Harkins (Bank and Bourbon), and more. Proceeds from the event go toward
the American Liver Foundation.
