Open Circulatory System Closed circulatory system
Heart pumps into open cavities, blood
vessels carry blood to all parts of the
body
Blood remains within a network of
vessels and does not leave
Has no arteries to increase BP,
therefore has more blood at low
pressure
Carries blood at high pressure and
delivers blood quickly.
Requires less energy for distributing
blood
Suitable for animals with a fast
metabolism
Better for animals with a small body
and slow metabolism because less
active animals with a low metabolism
do not require high amounts of oxygen
The animal is able to move, digest and
eliminate waste quickly
