From Tetsuo Kato, Managing Director, WiA
• My first turning point came in In 2001,when I was a college student. I backpacked across Asia. In getting to
know the local community, I learned that social problems already solved in Japan was remained totally
unsolved.
• However, I found many innovations to change the world inside in Japan. Their philosophy, business model,
and technologies are highly developed in the “middle class society” witch should be unique and replicated.
• In 2011, my second turning point came with the great earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear accident that
struck Japan on 3.11.We set up a new organization, called “World in Asia,” to foster hybrid innovations
beyond border to recover Touhoku and bring new innovation to the rest of the world.
• To tell the truth, I was an pollution disease patient. I spent three years in treatment of asthma, unable to go
to normal school, and losing a friend to the disease. Therefore this is the biggest chance for me to get over
these complex and spreading social problem. This is whole my life.
• Why don’t you get involved in working with social entrepreneurs? I believe we can get over if we just go
beyond borders.

Mission Perspective
• We develop the market for discovering, • "Nearly every problem has been solved by someone,
encouraging, fostering and connecting somewhere." The frustration is that "we can't seem to

entrepreneurs and global communities within five years. The comparable rate for franchise
to inspire and support each other in units is half that, or about 25 percent. Quite simply,
order to maximize their social impact replication can reduce the risk of failure. Adopting a
recognized model can also make it easier.”
