The document discusses what shapes or pulls mission out of being "Christ shaped". It argues that mission loses Christ's shape when it is not distinct, does not serve, and does not proclaim like Christ. It provides biblical passages and quotes to support defining mission as being shaped by being a covenant community, alternative/holy, serving through action, jubilee, and cascades of grace. The document warns against shapeless mission focused only on needs meeting or branding.
The document discusses the concept of a mission-shaped church and provides several perspectives on how churches can focus outwardly on their communities and view mission as central to their purpose. It includes numerous quotes emphasizing that churches should exist primarily to serve non-members and that being inwardly focused can lead to decline. The document also suggests that churches should understand and engage with their local communities to be relevant and first responders to community needs.
Global migration is happening at an unprecedented rate, with over 200 million migrants worldwide. This has resulted in over 150 unreached people groups now living in North Carolina alone. The document advocates discovering these people groups through their community institutions like markets and salons. This discovery then naturally leads to engagement, where relationships can be formed by being honest about wanting to share the gospel. The goal is to go to these groups in their communities rather than isolating them, make disciples, and plant churches to reach these groups with the gospel.
Peer pressure is the direct influence of people through their peers or individuals that encourages others to change their attitudes, values, or behaviors to conform to the influencing groups. People succumb to peer pressure on things like fashion, drinking, and social media presence. The Bible tells stories of people like Daniel and his friends who stood up for their faith even when pressured to conform in Babylon. Jesus warned Peter that he would deny knowing him three times, which came to pass when Peter distanced himself from Jesus under peer pressure. First Peter encourages Christians to maintain their focus on God and have self-control, even when surrounded by non-believing peers.
The document uses the metaphor of a jigsaw puzzle to illustrate how seeing the "big picture" of God's kingdom can bring purpose and direction to one's learning and work, whereas focusing only on individual pieces leads to confusion; it encourages viewing all of life through the lens of advancing God's kingdom and finding significance in contributing to something larger.
This document summarizes a youth Sabbath event at the Pasir SDA Church. It discusses the strong influence of peer pressure on young people and provides biblical examples of people like Peter and King Herod who gave in to peer pressure from their peers. It encourages youth not to follow the crowd in doing evil, but to let God dictate their actions, as Paul did, when facing pressure from peers.
This document is a presentation by Dr. Peter Hammond about turning the world upside down through confronting paganism and standing up for biblical values. It discusses how the early church confronted issues like polytheism, immorality, idolatry and more. It encourages confronting the "evil spirit of the age" by not conforming to the world and being transformed through knowledge of God's word. It contrasts biblical teachings with ideas like evolutionism, abortion, hedonism, deception, and other issues. The presentation encourages freedom of thought, speech, press and religion over political correctness or conformity. It asserts that true change comes through changing peoples' hearts, not laws. The presentation promotes Christian missions and charity over politics and concludes with a

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) presentation on "Works of Mercy," presented by David Jensen at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 26 Jan 2010.
Homily: 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time 2016James Knipper
This weekend’s Gospel is the familiar story of Jesus healing ten lepers and only one comes back to give thanks. But there is another reason that Luke records this story, for while the gift of gratitude is important – the returning, grateful leper has much more to teach us about how to live our lives. Check it out….
Pope Francis discusses how God constantly renews believers and the Church with newness. While the message of Christ's love remains the same, its riches and beauty are inexhaustible. God mysteriously brings about newness in our lives and communities through the Holy Spirit. The life of the Church should reveal that it is God who takes the initiative and gives growth. This enables us to maintain joy in our evangelization efforts, which engage our entire lives, despite being demanding. While bringing newness, we must also remember the living history that carries us forward, just as Israel remembered God's works.
This document discusses the theme of mercy according to Catholic teachings. It explores how Jesus revealed God's mercy through his life and ministry, showing compassion to the poor, outcasts, sick and suffering. Mercy involves feeling responsible for others' wellbeing. The Church is called to practice mercy by welcoming all and bearing the struggles of others with hope. It encourages readers to reflect on how they can become more merciful in their communities and ministries.
This document discusses the marks of a true Christian according to Romans 12:9-21. It identifies five key marks: love, morality, work ethic, spirituality, and social impact. For each mark, it provides brief explanations and biblical references. The overall message is that true Christians are defined by their love for others, moral character, dedication to good works, authentic spiritual relationship with God, and positive impact on society.
This document summarizes key aspects of the Protestant Reformation, including the imperfections of early reformers like Luther and Calvin, and the "five solas" they rediscovered:
1) Sola Scriptura - Scripture as the supreme authority over church and human reason
2) Sola Gratia - Salvation by grace alone, not works, as a gift from God through faith
3) Sola Fide - Justification by faith alone through trusting in Christ's atonement, not works
4) Solus Christus - Christ alone as mediator between God and humanity
5) Soli Deo Gloria - Glory to God alone based on who He is and what He has
The document discusses the concept of salvation as presented in the Bible. It says believers should work out their salvation with fear and trembling, as God is working in them to will and act for his good purpose. It then references examples throughout history of people who worked out their salvation through faith and good works, expanding its scope to reconciliation with God and others rather than just an individual ticket to heaven. The character of salvation described is one of freedom from condemnation and the ability to live fully for God's kingdom purposes.
As we move from Good to Great, it will naturally be reflected in our generosity. People give things of lesser values in order to obtain things of higher values. So naturally we give our money in order to realize our dream and our calling. Generous people are always the happiest people.
The document discusses the weekend themes of a Cursillo retreat. It explains that the weekend is designed to facilitate three encounters: an encounter with self, an encounter with God, and an encounter with others. It provides details on how each day focuses on one of the encounters through various presentations and meditations. Friday focuses on the encounter with self, Saturday on the encounter with God, and Sunday ties all three encounters together with a focus on the encounter with others and going forward in the world.
The document outlines several marks of a true Christian according to Romans 12:9-21. It lists loving others, having good morality, working hard, keeping spiritual practices like prayer, and having a positive social impact through acts of hospitality and helping those in need. It emphasizes that Christians should love others for Christ's sake rather than to gain something for themselves, defining true love as seeking the good of others without force or desire to rule over them. Overall, the key aspects of being a Christian highlighted are love, morality, work ethic, spirituality, and social impact.
This document discusses dynamics in spiritual warfare and battle based on the biblical passage of Exodus 17:10-12. It describes how Moses, as the spiritual leader, led the Israelites in battle against the Amalekites with the help of Aaron and Hur, who supported Moses through prayer and physical assistance when he grew tired. It emphasizes the importance of spiritual leadership, prayer support, and working as a team to achieve victory in spiritual battles.
140427 eng game changer (part 2) by ps. timothy loheaglepointcf
The document discusses how Jesus Christ's resurrection was the ultimate "game changer" that changed everything. It asserts that through Christ, believers have been changed from a life of sin and death to a new abundant life in Him. By rising from the dead, Jesus defeated the devil's mission to steal, kill and destroy, and gave his followers victory over sin, death and the evil one.
This document provides information about a spiritual pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi with The Pilgrim Center of Hope. It defines a pilgrimage as a journey of faith that benefits both individuals and the Church. It describes how pilgrims build up the Body of Christ through prayer and Mass. The document outlines the spiritual, mental, physical and social benefits of pilgrimages, as well as how they can transform a person. It invites those who cannot travel physically to unite spiritually by sending prayer intentions to be offered at holy sites.

Pope Francis: A mission embodied within human limitsMargaretObrovac
Pope Francis discusses how the Church must grow in interpreting scripture and understanding truth with help from other sciences. Within the Church, differing viewpoints can help express the riches of the Gospel if reconciled in respect and love. Expressing timeless truths requires finding ways to convey their meaning in contemporary language, otherwise people may misunderstand the authentic Gospel message. All religious teaching must be reflected in the lives and witness of its teachers.
The document discusses reorienting one's thinking towards the reality of Jesus and his message. It states that most people have been imagining a world without a king for years, so deprogramming from old assumptions is needed. By leaving comfortable assumptions behind, people will be ready to engage with culture in new ways and not see destiny as apart from God.
1) The document discusses creating true connections with others in the church by extending "mini-fridge rights" or seeking to know, accept, value, and understand others beyond just close friends and family.
2) It argues that the early church embraced both Jews and Gentiles as equals through Christ, in contrast to the segregated design of the Jewish temple.
3) Several Bible passages are cited teaching the radical inclusiveness of God's kingdom and calling for Christians to value each other based on their shared faith rather than outward attributes.
This document discusses the importance of unity in the church. It provides scriptural support for unity from passages like Ephesians 4:11-13 and Hebrews 10:23-25. It defines unity as oneness and agreement. It encourages focusing on commonalities over differences, avoiding criticism and gossip, resolving conflicts biblically, supporting leaders, and encouraging one another. The document warns that lack of unity through things like cliques, debts, or not working can hinder the church. Overall, it promotes practicing love and focusing on Christ to preserve unity.

Members of One Another - Wtih all our differences (culturally, regionally, maturity, etc.) it is a testament to the Lord at how he is able to keep us all together as "one body" in Him. Conversely, such differences challenge our faith, and as such, we must heed the divine exhortations (Romans 12) if we are to grow in unity.
The document discusses ten key Christian doctrines: God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, salvation, Christian living, the church, family, the spirit world, and the future. It provides questions and answers about the nature and significance of each doctrine. For example, it explains that Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man, that he died on the cross to atone for humanity's sins, and that he ascended to heaven and will return again. The document aims to outline foundational theological beliefs and their importance.
The document discusses finding a place in God's family to alleviate feelings of loneliness. It notes that while one can feel alone in a crowd of strangers, being part of the church family helps one feel connected through relationships. The apostle Paul compared the Church to the human body, with many parts supporting each other. For those battling loneliness, the document recommends getting involved with the body of Christ to relieve isolation and find community.
The Lord’s church in an Experience Driven CultureDon McClain
“The Lord’s church in an 'Experience Driven Culture'” - [John 6:60-69] - As churches decline in membership, they begin to compromise to sustain numbers - Many churches have adopted the "market driven" approach – i.e., Find out what people want and give it to them - WHAT EVER THAT IS! — Many churches of Christ are dondoinge the same things! Can the church fight apathy and materialism by feeding people's carnal appetites? Has the word of God lost it’s power & effectiveness? What should the churches response be to the populace and its increasing hunger for an “experience” & disinterest in the truth? - MP3 / PPT / KEYNOTE / PDF - 5/17/2015
Wednesday Night Series - "How People Change", Week 1CLADSM
God's work of personal transformation is intended to take place within the community of believers. Christians cannot grow on their own but through relationships with others in the body of Christ. Scripture teaches that believers belong to God's family and have resources for growth through their participation in the community. Christians are called to commit to relationships that promote biblical growth and help others do the same.
The goal of the Christian life is not to become a "better you" but to become a more Christlike "you". This message examines the foundations of spiritual growth into Christlikeness.
This document summarizes the weekly newsletter from Woodinville Community United Methodist Church (WCUMC) for the week of February 1, 2015. This document contains a blog post from David McGee's website "Cross The Bridge". The blog discusses several topics:
1) It summarizes a video from an altar call at Calvary Chapel of the Triad led by Billy Buchanan and his group.
2) It discusses the importance of having joy in one's spiritual life and not being a "spiritual Eeyore".
3) It poses the question of what would happen if the church and homes truly lived according to the teachings in Romans 12.
Making disciples who make disciples is at the heart of the call to follow Christ. Here are some notes on the gap between our intentions and practice (adapted from Greg Ogden's book, Transforming Discipleship).
The document summarizes the Buddy System being implemented at the author's organization to foster mentoring relationships between older (Y4) and younger (Y1) members. The key aspects are:
1) Y4 members will be paired with 1-2 Y1 members and expected to meet monthly for activities and weekly for check-ins to provide accountability, commitment of time, and motivation for the Y1 members.
2) Choosing buddies involves prayer and looking for members who are faithful, available, industrious, teachable, and have a heart for God.
3) Warnings are given to keep the focus on growing closer to Christ, clearly define the relationship, and take responsibility
This document discusses leaving one's first love for God. It begins by defining first love as a first priority love for God, not just an initial love. It then lists 5 common reasons why some leave their first love: 1) Lack of communication with God through prayer and Bible study, 2) Loving worldliness over God, 3) Making cares of this life a higher priority than God, 4) Loving sin, and 5) Not fellowshipping with God's people. It encourages readers to strengthen their communication with God daily, focus on heavenly things, make God the priority, confess and repent of sins, and have vibrant relationships with other believers to rekindle their first love for God in the new year.
The document discusses how divisions within the church can cause it to lose power and effectiveness, similar to how obstacles cause a snowball to break apart as it rolls downhill. It calls for Christians to commit fully to God, surrender past issues, and allow themselves to be molded together as one church under God. When the church is united and lifts each other up through prayer, it can grow in size and influence others through spreading God's message.

The document discusses Jesus challenging people to fully commit to following him rather than holding back or trying to appease both God and the world. It says Jesus was a radical figure who made bold claims and commands that upset religious and political leaders as well as some followers. It encourages readers to examine themselves and determine if they are fully committed to Jesus or just giving a partial commitment while holding back other parts of their lives.
This document discusses new ways of relating that are guided by God, including:
1) Grace-giving acceptance, where we accept others unconditionally as Jesus accepts us.
2) Authentic vulnerability, where we agree to openly share our struggles so we can support each other.
3) Healing confession, where we confess struggles to God and each other, which can heal marriages and lives.
4) Speaking the last 10%, referring to saying encouraging or difficult truths in love.
The document compares the Tower of Babel community to a God-based community. The Tower of Babel was built for human pride and fame, resulting in dispersion. A God-based community exists to proclaim the Gospel, bringing unity. It lists privileges like being part of Christ's body and responsibilities like showing love and preaching the Gospel of belonging to the church community. Unity among believers of different backgrounds can be achieved without losing individuality by drawing near to God and each other.
The Purpose of The Church #2 FellowshipRick Peterson
The document discusses the purpose of fellowship in the church. It defines biblical fellowship as a communion and participation between believers based on their common belief in and relationship with Jesus Christ. True fellowship involves sharing life together, prioritizing other believers' needs, sharing possessions communally, and encouraging one another's spiritual growth. The benefits of fellowship include meeting basic human needs for community, receiving emotional support and encouragement, and participating together in the gospel through the Holy Spirit. The document urges readers to evaluate whether their local church exhibits biblical fellowship and challenges them to actively work on building fellowship within the congregation.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
