What is an APOSTASY?
An abandonment of what one has
voluntarily professed; a total
desertion or departure from one's
previous understandings or
practice

The Five Apostasies
Professional Learning Network
Teachers no longer have to wait for a system to identify
or solve their problems; they are empowered to do it
for themselves.
Teachers in geographically isolated places are no longer
intellectually or professionally isolated.
Teachers can have their professional questions and
problems solved now, not at a predefined space and
time.
We can harness the collective intelligence rather than be
restricted by our prescriptive job titles.
Education systems can crowd source content,
knowledge and ideas.

• The internet allows us to form PLNs with
more people and much more easily
• “A frictionless medium for communication”-
Keep the conference energy alive
• Keep the intellectual conversation alive
• Why email when you can text/twitter?
• (One to One vs. One to Many)

The Main Aim of Knowledge Management (KM)
Connect people to quality knowledge as well as
people to people in order to increase
understanding.
How learning content is used and distributed by
learners might be more important than how it is
designed
All this is possible as a result of the rapid
development of Web 2.0 concepts

2. Asking for help/opinions
3. Giving help/opinions
4. Starting something (group/discussion)
5. Joining every social network possible
6. Becoming overwhelmed and dropping the

  3. Learning doesn’t always take place in the classroom. Informal learning describes the growth that we undertake in our day to day interactions. Just in time learning ask for help on something you need now. Social Learning-we learn by modeling. What if there is no one to model? Connect with other practitioners (not “outside experts”) but still outside.

If you have a favorite lesson, but never wanted to go through the trouble of setting up a website to share your opinions, knowledge, experience, and lesson plans now you can jump into active online communities and get tons of positive feedback! Even wonderful Google is in it for the money. Steve Nash and Stacey Baker? They are just great teachers who I have learned to trust and gain inspiration from. I would never have met them without Twitter. Nuf said!
