1. THE OUTSIDERS STORY MAP
The story map is much like a graphic version of the novel. You
need to review chapters 1-6. As you can see from the graphic,
there are six main scenes you need to indentify, so be very
thorough with your decision.
Which scenes do I do?
You need to think as though you are trying to summarize the six
key “parts” of the first six chapters to someone who is NOT
familiar with the plot.
The Story Map is a combination of visual and written
summarization. Your images need to be detailed (color). Since
the text you are writing is very minimal in comparison to a
traditional book report, it needs to be vey clean, to the point,
and grammatically correct. Do take into mind our key writing
components; conventions, word choice, sentence fluency, and
structure.
The Literary Term, or figurative language component (at the
bottom), deals with evidence of literary devices. These might
be, but not limited to:
Foreshadowing
Simile
Metaphor
Symbolism
Hyperbole
Alliteration
Dramatic Irony
Protagonist
Conflict
Rise in Action
If you are using specific wording from the novel, this needs to
be in “quotations” and requires the page number.
