2. Twestival is a lot more than
“Just Twitter.”
Twestival is a groundbreaking global movement that pioneered the promise
social media holds to organize and collaborate to positively impact our
community. Since 2009, in cities across the globe, the Twestival phenomenon
has raised $1.2 million for important causes through grassroots volunteer
organizing.
Austin, the city where Twitter launched, is hosting Austin Twestival Local on
March 24, 2011. 100% of all proceeds raised through ticket sales and
donations will directly support the beneficiary organization - Austin Meals on
Wheels and More. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 in funds and increase
awareness for this important cause.
3. Twestival organizers created community buy-in by asking an existing community
of past supporters to nominate worthy charities. This year our selected nonprofit
beneficiary organization is Austin Meals on Wheels and More.
Meals on Wheels is an essential community service that seeks to nourish and
enrich the lives of the homebound and other people in need through programs
that promote dignity and independent living. Meals on Wheels and More
delivers hot meals each weekday to individuals in need and provides additional
services, such as transportation to medical appointments and phone friends,
that further assist the lives of those who are homebound.
4. Meals on Wheels and More Services include:
• Meals and groceries to homebound clients
• Transportation to medical appointments
• Assistance with veterinary care for the furry friends of those in need
• Home repairs to ensure clients’ safety
• Nutritious evening meals to low income children
• Care and companionship through routine phone calls to clients
• Care for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia with
caregivers that need breaks
• Social opportunities for seniors to gather for games, exercise and lunch
5. Austin Meals on Wheels and More enriches the lives of 2,400 people in need
daily, and distributes over 1 million meals annually.
Texas rates 8th in the country for seniors living below the poverty line and 11th
for seniors living with a disability. These adults have contributed to our
community, and we have a duty to protect and care for them while respecting
their dignity.
Austin Twestival is proud to support
this essential nonprofit resource,
an organization that has received a four star rating from the
independent Charity Navigator for five consecutive years.
6. The vision for Austin Twestival 2011 is
a fun offline fundraising event that
will allow supporters to gather for a
fun night for a great cause. We plan
to attract 300+ socially savvy
participants, offer food, provide
unique and talented entertainment,
and feature a Meals on Wheels
representative.
We will be building buzz about the
event through outreach to traditional
and online media, as well as hosting
contests. We will give prizes for the
best blog post, the best social sharer
based on web traffic, and the best
photo. Blog posts and photos will be
judged by number of Facebook likes.
7. Corporate Sponsorship Benefits
100% of your donation will benefit Austin Meals on Wheels and will be 100%
tax deductible. All traditional event expenditures will instead be secured through
in kind donations.
