They are well known company among the people.so it will be hard to get in. but Bharti Airtel is having good
marketing strategy but the difficult will face by company is how to do marketing strategy in local market.
The threat of substitute product or service for Airtel is also high. As Airtel will be new entrant in the market so it
will be difficult to reduce the price at starting. So people will choose substitute product of Bharti Airtel which is
having strong image.
The threat from new competitor for the company will be low as the main big boss like Cosmote swallowing the
market then Vodafone Greece and Wind. So the company will have problem with this existing companies rather
than new company.
The bargaining power of supplier will be high as Bharti Airtel is new company to enter and already the existing
the company ruling in the Greece market. So it will be difficult for Airtel Company to bargain with the supplier.

Zain Africa International BV'S Acquisition by Bharti Airtel
Introduction
Bharti Airtel Limited was very keen to enter the African markets and the organization took considerable time to
find an indigenous partner who was willing to facilitate its entry into African territory. Having previously gone
through unsuccessful rounds of negotiations with MTN Group Limited, one could say that when Bharti Airtel
identified Zain Africa as a potential target for acquisition, it was probably ready to walk an extra mile to see the
deal through. An offer of US$10.7 billion for the acquisition of Zain's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We expect special tariff/data plans for connecting Indians in India and Africa, like those offered previously for the
Middle East and USA, considering increased migration from India to Africa and increasing competition in Africa
for greater share of the huge subscriber base.
As the next step, Bharti needs to negotiate a venture like the Indus Towers with Vodafone and MTN to attain
targeted EBITDA margins.

Bargaining Power Of Suppliers For Airtel
Since telecom industry is very susceptible to price war and bargaining power, suppliers are chosen carefully so
that the bargaining power of suppliers is low and the profitability of the company is not slashed down.
The major suppliers whose bargaining can influence the profitability of Airtel are as follows:
i. Mobile Tower Companies – Below is the list of companies who own mobile towers in India and their market
share. Currently uses the mobile towers offered by Bharti Infratel Limited and Indus Towers Limited.
From the above figure we find that there are many companies who provide the mobile tower facility. Also, there is

6.2 Bargaining Power of Buyers
Buyers in telecom industry can be classified in two categories depending on the type of consumers, Individual and
Enterprise Customers. Enterprise customers are organizations like banks, IT companies. There are multiple players
in the telecom industry like Airtel with variable product offerings and prices which gives buyers many options to
select operators and thus increase the bargaining leverage.
Different aspects of bargaining powers of buyers which affect the profitability of Airtel are:
i. Switching Costs: The cost of a new connection is very low and sometimes subscribers obtain new connections
for free. The introduction of Mobile Number portability (MNP) has increased the buyer power of switching to
other service providers very easily. Airtel faces a higher bargaining power of buyer due to low switching costs.
ii. Buyer Competition: Majority of the revenues for Airtel is generated by enterprise customers who show that
there is higher buying

Airtel Managing All Its Functions Essay
Airtel managing all its functions in–house came to conclusion to outsource the non–core activities to reduce its
capital overheads. Airtel realized that they needed to provide a flexible, reliable and best in class customer services
to its customers and focus on building a loyal customer database. They shifted their focus from network. Airtel
comprehended that its network operations could be better accomplished by Ericson, Nokia or Siemens and IBM.
The reason to outsource is to focus on core, have a scalable network, faster reach, better quality, providing
enhanced services and to have a team of best persons to manage networks across the globe.
Airtel's strategy of outsourcing with Nokia Siemens and Ericson included buildup, maintenance and overhauling
of network telecom equipment's. Airtel's contract was a two pronged outsourcing structure to its vendors. The
vendors will provide network capacity requirements as mentioned in the agreement. Payment models were based
on the customer utilization of the capacity, hence paying for only what is used. Ownership of assets rests with
Airtel, maintenance responsibility with the vendors. Techniques were taken to check quality parameters. The
contract was for 3 years and renewable under mutual consent. Airtel followed Dollar Per Erlang model which
meant pay only for the Traffic that come out of the tower. Airtel's contract with IBM was for 10 years and had
complete, end–to–end management and wide–ranging services for supplying,

I. INRODUCTION
India's two top telecom operators, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, are locked in a tight competition which has
triggered another round of price war in the industry. But unlike the 3G price war in 2012 or 4G price war in 2016,
the new battle isn't about who is offering the lowest price but who can sell for free and for how long. And then,
there's a revived interest in targeting the lower tier of userbase that is still using the 2G feature phones.
In September, Reliance Jio launched its fourth generation (4G) wireless internet services, that has led to a
financially bleeding battle between telecom operators.
What Reliance Jio is offering, is "unfair competition", Mittal had said at a conference in Delhi, while launching ...

The government regulation has played a crucial role in boosting the industry growth and shifting it from a state
owned monopoly to market oriented model. Presently there are more than 800 million subscribers with around 70
percent tele–density. The industry has 15 GSM service providers with 5 of them having pan India presence.
With the maturing of the industry, the differentiation among the services provided by the players is also on a
decline. The quality of service among the service providers is also converging to the industry standard and TRAI
recommendations. This resulted in a price war, especially with the new players entering the existing circles. The
price war has resulted in the erosion of market share of existing players and also affected the profitability of all the
service providers. The average revenue per user is on a decline in the industry, and interestingly the lower tariff
has not increased the minutes of usage per connection. The existing players are working hard to maintain steady
addition to the subscriber base and to keep the costs of operation low. Although the market may not be attractive
for a new entrant, there seems to be a strong value and upside potential remaining for the existing telecom
operators to prevent the erosion of their market share.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, the founder–chairman of Bharti Enterprises (which owns
Airtel), is today, the most celebrated face of the telecom sector in India. He symbolises the adage that success
comes to those who dream big and then work assiduously to deliver it. Sunil Bharti Mittal began his journey
manufacturing spare parts for bicycles in the late 1970s. His strong entrepreneurial instincts gave him a unique
flair for sensing new business opportunities. In the early years, Bharti established itself as a supplier of basic
telecom equipment. His true calling came in the mid 1990s when the government opened up the sector and
allowed private players to provide telecom services.
Bharti Enterprises accepted every opportunity provided by this new policy to evolve into India's largest

This assures a high growth in this industry in future. Most of the service providers have covered majority of the
urban population of India. But many far fledged villages of India still need to be connected through mobile
phones. The untapped rural population of India is a huge proportion of the 72.2% total rural population of India.
Also, the demand for telecom service in rural people is increasing day by day. This further ensures growth in the
industry. Indian telecom continues to register a significant growth each year. This has been due to the impact of
economic reforms and pro–active policies of the government. This has a clear indication that india has huge
demand of tele services.
Supply– The telecommunications industry is a vast one with a large number of private players who are constantly
bringing down the cost to consumers thereby making services more affordable and helping improve life in general
and business in particular. On the Indian business scene are successful government owned institutions like MTNL
and BSNL on the one hand, and even more successful and aggressive players like the Tata's and Reliance on the
other. Competition has just begun and is heating up every day with either lowering of tariffs or introduction of
newer and improved services to keep a larger share of the market. If airtel will be able to provide better services

Disadvantages Of Outsourcing
As mentioned earlier outsourcing forms a part of decentralization structure. This concept of Outsourcing originally
came from "American Glossary" in the year 1981. Outsourcing offers cost–effective benefits along with non–
economic benefits. Outsourcing is a process of delegating a business–process of a company to a third company,
leveraging benefits of reduced costs, improved quality and innovations. Outsourcing/ Downsizing became the
most prevalent business trends. A very commonly considered reason for outsourcing is reduced costs, where
specialized providers are more efficient and economic than a vertically integrated organization. Some
organizations found it more affordable to access a few key resources from other organizations then to have an in
house department working on the same. Organizations benefit from outsourcing non–core activities especially

The whole process of outsourcing was based on cost efficiency and not value addition of providing world class
solutions. They outsourced all core business functions and later faced difficulties of dependence on vendors. There
were limitations set on Airtel to use creative new applications from IBM deal. There were handovers of network
assets built by Airtel. IBM had cheated Airtel by using it as a case study to generate more business from other
telecom players in this sector, therefore Airtel reduced the value its second contract with IBM taking a few core
functions back. Airtel could not dissolve the contract with IBM as it had to pay as mentioned in the contract and

Bharti: Outsourcing Agreement With Ericson, Nokia Or Siemens

With Ericson, Nokia or Siemens?
Bharti Airtel started as a very small company with only $900 capital. Who would have imagined it would have
become India biggest Telecom Company. Today, Airtel is the largest provider of mobile telephony and second
largest provider of fixed telephony in India, and is also a provider of broadband and subscription television
services. It offers its telecom services under the "Airtel" brand, and is headed by Sunil Bharti Mittal. It also acts as

The vendors are much bigger, and they are worldwide companies" (pp. 382). Along with that the company board
of directors though that by outsourcing it would put the company in a positions where they are fully depend on the
vendors. Excessive dependency would harm their company internally as well as externally.
On the other hand, vendors had their concerns they thought "they were concerned with the risk and the need to get
"buy–in" from the top levels in their organization" (Applegate, Austin & Soule, 2009). One of the major
concerns what Bharti looking at was "if the vendors turned down this business now, making it look as if they were
unwilling to take risk in India, they might later be locked out of lucrative deals not only with Bharti, but perhaps
with other operators as well" (Applegate, Austin & Soule, 2009).
Looking at the future "Bharti Airtel Ltd, which is currently re–negotiating its 10–year information technology (IT)
outsourcing contract with International Business Machines Corp. ( IBM ), is set to hand out more business to other
technology services vendors led by Tech Mahindra Ltd and reduce IBM's share of the contract in what will be the
biggest overhaul of the landmark outsourcing deal.

Airtel Merger Essay
B. APPLYING PREDATORY PRICING
The newly created firm will have a market share of 27.14% after summing the market of share of 14.5. % for Tigo
and 12.6% for Airtel respectively. The combine market shares (27.1%) of the two firms is lesser than that of MTN
with market share of 48.5% .Using the market shares reveals that MTN will still have more dominance in the
market than the newly created firm from the merger. This provides proof of the fact that the newly created firm
would not have much control over the market in using predatory pricing to drive competitors and potential
competitors out of the market. The merger should be approve as competition in market will be maintained after the
merger.
C. APPLYING ANTI COMPETITIVE ISSUES
MONOPOLY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concern of the regulator will be to determine if the merger could raise or reduce the welfare of consumers.
That is if the reduction in cost measured by the lower average cost would be sufficiently large relative to the rise in
price, then the merger would improve welfare of consumers as cost saved will be greater than deadweight loss.
But if the rise in price after the merger is sufficiently large relative to the reduction in average cost then the merger
lowers welfare (deadweight loss). The antitrust authorities can determine if the merger would enhance welfare or
not depending on how reacts to the merger. The goal of competitors is to determine whether the merged firm will
provide quality or worse services compared to the combined premerger services provided by the firms engage in
the merger. If the quality of services provided by the merged firms falls then competitors will be better off, since
demand for their service is likely to increase. The increase in demand for the services of competitors induces them
to provide more to the market, but on the net the total quality of service provided in the industry would falls
creating higher prices, in that case the merger will not be challenge by the competitors. The higher price resulting
from the merger reduces welfare as consumer surplus falls. On the other hand if the new firm provides better
quality services

After moving to Mumbai, he imported thousands of Suzuki Motors's portable electric generators from Japan. It

Strategic Outsourcing at Bharti Airtel Limited
(a). Problem Essay: The main problem Bharti Airtel Limited facing is "How to manage its capital expenditures for
its operations and how to face the expected exponential growth and a competitive environment." The challenges
that the company is facing are 1. Keeping pace with expansion: Bharti's customer base is growing at 100% per
year. It has its mobile operations currently in 15 circles out of 25 in the country and its fixed line operations in 6
circles. So it is a huge challenge to keep pace with the expansion. 2. Capital expenditures and the risk: They are

For example: Bharti agrees to pay IBM a share of its revenues and this percentage of revenue shared will decline
as the overall revenue increases. (c). Action Plan: The deal should ensure the following outcomes and should
follow the steps mentioned in order to achieve them: 1. The deal should include clauses to avoid risks and should
assure all the advantages mentioned above. 2. Quality control: Detailed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
covering every aspect of outsourcing (for both IT and telecom) with associated penalties for non–conformance
provided a framework for monitoring. If any of the measurements fall below/ above certain threshold levels as
indicated, there are penalties/ rewards as appropriate. 3. Cost reduction: Along with SLAs, it should also define
Key Performance Indicators through which the performance of vendors were monitored and measured. By going
for long term partnerships with select vendors of repute with detailed SLAs, Bharti can reduce the explicit
transaction costs with the external vendors, thus making it a viable business model. Thus, by monitoring the SLAs,
key performance indicators, it should ensure that the vendor fulfills its obligations and guard itself against
potential vendor opportunism. 4. Final step is to arrive at the cost model of deal. Cost model of deal should be
such that it is beneficial for both sides ie Bharti and

analysts need tested tools to gain information about how companies perform financially compared to their
competitors, the strong areas of the competitors, the list of the major competitors and so on. Likewise, we can say
that, the telecom companies need to benchmark their performances against competitors in order to remain
important players in this market.

It is the largest cellular provider in India, and also supplies broadband and telephone services – as well as many
other telecommunications services to both domestic and corporate customers. * Other stakeholders in Bharti Airtel
include Sony–Ericsson, Nokia – and Sing Tel, with whom they hold a strategic alliance. This means that the
business has access to knowledge and technology from other parts of the telecommunications world. * The
company has covered the entire Indian nation with its network. This has underpinned its large and rising customer
base.
Weaknesses
* An often cited original weakness is that when the business was started by Sunil Bharti Mittal over 15 years ago,
the business has little knowledge and experience of how a cellular telephone system actually worked. So the start–
up business had to outsource to industry experts in the field. * Until recently Airtel did not own its own towers,
which was a particular strength of some of its competitors such as Hutchison Essar. Towers are important if your
company wishes to provide wide coverage nationally. * The fact that the Airtel has not pulled off a deal with South
Africa's MTN could signal the lack of any real emerging market investment opportunity for the business once the
Indian market has become mature.
Opportunities
* The company

Presently there are more than 800 million subscribers with around 70 percent tele–density. The industry has 15 GSM service providers with 5 of them having pan India presence. With the maturing of the industry, the differentiation among the services provided by the players is also on a decline. The quality of service among the service providers is also converging to the industry standard and TRAI recommendations. This resulted in a price war, especially with the new players entering the existing circles. The price war has resulted in the erosion of market share of existing players and also affected the profitability of all the service providers. The average revenue per user is on a decline in the industry, and interestingly the lower tariff has not increased the minutes of usage per connection. The existing players are working hard to maintain steady addition to the subscriber base and to keep the costs of operation low.
