2. Audience
My target audience is middle to old age men and woman. Or tourists
to the local area. The pub the Commercial is a friendly pub located
in the town center of easingwold. The pub has a lot of regulars and
has a friendly atmosphere with both young and old people. The pub
has a pool table a dart board and shows sports. The pub is also
popular in summer due to a massive rear garden with full seating, it
is the only pub in easingwold with a proper rear garden. The pub is a
traditional pub and welcomes everyone. The owner of the pub
currently has completely turned it around and is only 19 years old.
The pub also offers food and a special carvery on Sunday. It is a very
traditional building which appeals to its customers.
3. The amount of pubs in the UK has decreased from 52,500 to 38.815 with small
independent pubs being hit most heavily. In 2018 pubs were closing at a rate of 18 a
week. Whereas large commercial pubs e.g. wetherspoons have grown in number. Beer
counts for 7/10 drinks in the pub and that’s why beer tax is such a big issue. The uk pub
market is set to grow by 1.6% in 2018 ahead of the eating out market at 1.5%.
4. These statistics mean that competition is fiercer than ever for independent
pubs as each struggles to survive. This also means that each pub needs to reach
as wide an audience as possible so having a website is essential. Even though
the north east is one of the areas with the smallest decline, there has still been
well over 1000 pubs closed. This means that the website I create needs to be of
a high standard especially as there is a lot of rival pubs in the area, easingwold
alone having 5 pubs. The area is predominantly middle to upper class with a lot
of older people and families, because of this I will have to make the website
very accessible and easy to use with slightly larger fonts than usual.
