My name is Stephanie Barker and I am a white female, 22 years of age. I am
currently studying full-time towards my honours in Strategic Communications, after
attaining a full-merit bursary, and I will attain my second degree as of the end of
2012.Throughout my studies I have chosen to work, not only to support myself but to
additionally gain valuable skills within the workplace. Previous occupations I
undertook included the position of the Marketing Communications Officer for
Uthlanga Environmental Consultants. This position entailed the designing and
creation of newsletters, presentation slides, company profile, and sourcing and
creating a database of contacts. As of 1st September 2011, I chose to undertake a
short Social Media internship at Virtuosa (digital agency) and this position entailed
the creation and analysis of social media accounts of a number of prestigious
organizations and the creation of industry related blogs.
My honours degree also required the completion of an internship of 100 hours;
however I chose to continue this internship throughout this year (2012) so as to gain
valuable experience. I am currently employed as an intern at Sound Media,
whereby this position entails the creation of social media strategies, the handling of
various social media accounts and the assistance with experiential campaigns. I
have chosen to explore various positions within the field of Strategic
Communications due to the fact that Strategic Communications involves an
integrated approach and thus it becomes important to have an understanding of
the various facets that actively build the brand.
