How can we create a deep connection? Involve the ideas and staff at our institutions? And allow for an interchange?

Create Ability Housing Works
QUALITIES OF OFFSITE OUTREACH Working with separate, discreet communities Merging institutions resources with the community’s needs and values Targeting communities that are under-served or neglected Providing a service to the specific community Outcomes developed for high success-rate, low-risk Programming for familiarity and comfort
What if we considered onsite community- building  as a form of outreach?
EMERGENT ONSITE OUTREACH At MoMA: Free Teen Nights  	* weekly drop-in events 2.  In the Making: Art Making Classes & Museum Studies and Conservation Classes 	* application based serial programs Youth Advisory * targeted outreach group
QUALITIES OF ONSITE OUTREACH Integrating representatives from multiple communities Creating a space for the community to decide on its own beliefs and values Targeting communities that are under-served Working with the community to create solutions—empowerment   Success determined by the group and the museum, high-risk Creating situations for participants to break out of comfort zones
OUTCOMES DEVELOPED OFFSITE OUTREACH EMERGENT ONSITE OUTREACH • Opportunity to expand social group in a 3rd space • Ownership over connection to museum • Participants bring friends, family, teachers to see results • Teens actively shaping the community and the affect it has on the museum • Participants feel comfortable within their social groups • Ownership over their own space • Participants bring friends, family, teachers to see results
QUESTIONS • What is the impact on the institution? • How is outreach success measured?  • Do these outreach concepts apply to other   audiences?
