• Why the film got the certificate it did (citing specific scenes)
• Rating given in other countries (MPAA rating in America)
• Monitors and responses to complaints
Things to consider...
Your research should have alerted you to the debate surrounding this film and its BBFC
certification – make sure you cite the reasons why they felt that it received the 18 – discuss
the scenes that they mention and relate it to their guidelines.
Put forward the case that Shane Meadows makes about his film – why did he want it to have
the 15 certificate, why did he feel that the 18 was unjustified.
Other commentators got involved as well – bring in your research of reviews and critics
responses to the movie to add to the discussion.
Refer to the councils that decided to overturn the decision made by the BBFC and this should
open up the discussion as to whether it damages the BBFC’s reputation or if it further sparks
the debate about censorship.
