The document provides information about Indiana's 2016 DieselWise grant program. It discusses why reducing diesel emissions is important for public health. It outlines the types of fleets and projects that are eligible for funding, including retrofits, idle reduction technologies, aerodynamic upgrades, engine repowers, and vehicle replacements. The document details the costs different projects can receive, up to 100% for exhaust controls or a combination of technologies. It also summarizes the application review process and evaluation criteria. In closing, it estimates timelines for implementing the Volkswagen diesel emissions settlement funds through a similar grant program.
2. Why Clean Diesel
Diesel engines are the workhorses of the nation; although
many diesel engines already have some form of emission
controls, the legacy fleet still in use continue to emit large
amounts of nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and air toxics
These emissions are linked to premature deaths, asthma
attacks, lost work days, and other health impacts every year
