Stage one: Formation characterized by polite

Stage two Storming, characterized by high potential
for conflict. Members feel more comfortable with one

group norms, roles and procedures.
Stage three: Norming the group grows more
cohesive. There emerges agreement on rules and processes
of decision making.
Stage four: performing plans and tasks are well
established in this stage and there is great focus on
achievement.
Stage five: Adjourning this stage is characterized by
a sense of accomplishment and increased emotionality.
6. How to Form a Group
Initiate Committee Formation Memo stating the
purpose, membership, duration, meeting
commitment per week.
This will justify the time needed for members to
meet and at the same time it is serves as evidence of
productive work for the members which can be used
in their performance evaluation

Equal distribution of tasks promotes team work
Beware of free riders, a term that describes the
members who joins a group for personal benefit
without taking any duties or responsibilities.
The best way for the chairperson to deal with free riders
is to involve them in the team spirit and give them
assignments
