Project Solai Kenya ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]
Zena and her valuable team of student volunteers
Set Kobor Primary School
Work began with the clearing of  the classrooms
Classes continued during the project as teachers and students adapted to a temporary location
Rock was delivered and un-loaded by volunteers
Rock was also found and carried back to the school by volunteers and students
Students used strength and ingenuity to be resourceful helpers
 
Volunteers were led and inspired by example and were excited to help
Volunteers working together were able to move an enormous amount of rock in a few short days

Many volunteers used 14-17 tons of rock, 10 bags of cement, and lots of sand to transform 12 classrooms dirt floors to concrete
“ The parents were happy to work with Zena, they learned a lot about working together as a community and they were impressed that a foreigner could think so well of them.  This made them more determined to work and improve their school for the future.” SMC Chairman Robert Cherviyot
Volunteers were organized in an assembly line fashion to maximize efficiency and to exemplify teamwork
“ Live Long Assignment Hope…Live Long Zena Amer…May God Bless You Abundantly” Mrs. Mary Jemel Lalaikipiani, Teacher
Volunteers were motivated by the constant arrival of supplies and the daily progress of the project
Students improvised and developed carrying devices using cloths and fabric
The children were involved in the project every day in one way or another

The wood utilized from the old desks was used to make forms that could spread and smooth the concrete
12 classrooms were transformed through hard work from dirt to smooth concrete
 
 
Throughout the project attitudes were positive and spirits were high in anticipation of the great improvements to the school
 
A total of 63 windows were installed in nine classrooms and doors were installed in four classrooms
 
The windows were all custom welded together…there is no Home Depot for easy pick up and go

The children were thrilled to join Zena on nature hikes during breaks from school and working on the project
“ In addition to coordinating the project, Zena advised the pupils on having good character to achieve their future careers and to know their talents and use them”. Mrs. Mary Jemel Lalaikipiani, Teacher
 
Members of Parliament arrived for the first town celebration and they promised electricity to be added to the school!
An average of 63 men and women and 112 children helped out each day for 15 days
The children were thrilled and touched by the special extra token they received
 
What an incredible gift, to be able to give to those that are so grateful and deserving of our help
