3. 1. What is Aperture?
Smaller the F Number, Bigger the hole
• Aperture is the
size of the
adjustable hole
in the lens,
where the light
goes through
• Bigger the hole,
more light it lets
in
• For larger
aperture hole,
there is less
depth of field

4. What is Aperture?
How do Aperture numbers affect the images?
•
•
•
F4.5 is a bigger
Aperture only the
object is in focus and
background is very
blurry
F13 is a medium
range Aperture and
background is less
blurry
F29 is the smallest
Aperture hole and
everything is in focus

5. 2. Shutter Speed
• It is the amount of time
the light is allowed to
pass through the hole
• It is simply how long
the camera shutter
stays open to expose
the camera sensor to
light
• Faster Shutter speed
freezes motion

6. Shutter Speed
•
•
•
•
For example Shutter speed
of 8 means shutter stayed
open for 8th of the second.
And Shutter speed of 15
means the Shutter stayed
open for 15th of a second
Basic rule for determining
what Shutter speed for hand
held camera = mm size of
the lens
For 100 mm lens, you can
hand hold your camera for
100th of a second

7. 3.ISO
• ISO is how sensitive
the camera sensor is
to light
• By using higher ISO
number, you can
adjust the camera
sensor to be more
sensitive to light
• But increase
sensitivity comes
with a price and you
get grainier images

8. Exercise….
Count down…60 Seconds
1. Which Aperture number
will give fully focused
images?
2. Which Shutter Speed
will freeze the motion
and moving image will
be fully focused?
3. Which ISO number will
be less sensitive to light
but will produce better
quality images?
