 CAR issued on 11 November 2011
 Published on DGCA website on 22 November 2011
 CAR 66 if effective from 1.01.2012 but the existing
requirements
 of CAR Section2 Series L will also continue upto 31.12.2012
 Presentation is based on CAR 66
 CAR 66 is in line with the current Rule 61
 CAR 66 eliminates the system of obtaining Airframe and
Engine Licences & Electrical, Instrument and Radio System
Licences separately.
 provides for qualifying under the existing system of obtaining
the licence till December 2012.

3. CAR 66
 has a provision to convert the existing AME licence to
CAR 66 licence with or without limitation
 The AME licenses in CAR 66 format will be available in
two different ways:
 a) After conversion of existing AME licenses with
applicable limitation.
 b) Issue of fresh license after passing of applicable
modules

 Cat A - AMEL permits the holder to issue
CRS following minor scheduled line
maintenance and simple defect rectification
within the limits of tasks specifically
endorsed on the authorization. The
certification privileges shall be restricted to
carry out the work the licence holder has
personally performed in an approved
organization

18. Category B1
 Cat B1- AMEL shall permit the holder
to issue CRS following maintenance,
including aircraft structure, power
plant, mechanical and electrical
systems. Replacement of avionic line
replaceable units, requiring simple tests
to prove their serviceability

19. Category B2
Category B2 -aircraft
maintenance licence shall
permit the holder to issue
certificates of release to service
following maintenance on
avionic and electrical systems

20. Category C
 Category C - AMEL shall permit the
holder to issue CRS following base
maintenance on aircraft. The privileges
apply to the aircraft in its entirety in an
approved organization

21. 66. A.25 Basic Knowledge requirements:
 10+2 with PCM

Cat. A (any sub-category) and cat. four years of practical aircraft
B1 (sub categories B1.2 and B1.4 maintenance experience
Cat. B2 and sub-categories B1.1 and five years of practical aircraft
B1.3 maintenance experience
Category C with respect to large three years as category B1.1 or
aircraft B1.3 or B2 privileges on large
aircraft
five years of as category B1.2 or
B1.4 privileges
category C with respect to aircraft three years of experience of
other than large aircraft exercising privileges of category B1
or B2

 5 years

24. 66.A.45 Type/task training and ratings
Cat A specific aircraft endorsed on the licence
following the satisfactory completion of the
relevant category A aircraft task training
Cat B1,B2,C shall only exercise certification privileges on a
specific aircraft type when the AMEL is
endorsed with the appropriate aircraft type
rating.
Cat A,B1,B2 ratings shall be granted following satisfactory
&C completion of the relevant category A, B1 or B2
or C aircraft type training approved by DGCA.
