outstanding quality, service,
cleanliness, and value, so that
we make every customer in
every restaurant smile."
One’s upon a time
When I
was Baby
 McDonald's was started as a drive-in
restaurant by two brothers, Richard and
Maurice McDonald in California, US in the
year 1937.
Prices were kept low. Speed, service and
cleanliness became the critical success factors
of the business.
 franchisees started
 Revolutionary concept called 'self-service.‘
Currently McDonald's operates in 121
countries & having more than 30000
restaurant and serving 53 Mn customers
everyday
The brothers used assembly line procedures
in their kitchen for mass production.

• Researching the every countries culture.
• Replacement of beef with chicken.
• Offering a wider variety of food to
attract more segments.
Market Entry of McDonald’s
 Commenced as a barbeque restaurant in
1940.
 Introduction of the "Speedee Service
System" in 1948.
 Replacement of “Speedee”.
 Reorganization as a hamburger business in
1948.
 Sale of 100 billion hamburgers by 1993.
 Presently serving in more than 36000+
across the globe.

Diversification is a corporate

found in Japan and was amazed by its
different style from traditional

• Mc Donald’s is one such company where it went
for cultural adoption
• The McDonald's of the United States is much
different than the McDonald's in Japan, China,
and India
• The company has committed to understanding
the preferred foods in specific cultures.
• It has adapted the menu to include foods that are
popular in specific countries.
• This has allowed McDonald's to be successful in
international market growth.
• Some example :
In China, McDonald's features an all chicken
burger using thigh meat as opposed to the
standard breast meat.
• McDonald's opened new multi-floored
restaurants in 2011 in Japan where it features a
café atmosphere on the first floor and the
traditional fast-food experience on the second
floor.
• The company keeps pork and beef products off
the menu in existing restaurants in India.
What they did
It thinks globally and acts locally.
• For instance its advertising campaign
“I'm Loving' It” has been advertised
globally but the characters and the
background setting has been adapted in
accordance with the local culture and
customs.
It offers customers taste and appearance
variations according to their culture and
religious customs
