4. Introduction to RFID
• Technlogy that uses radio-frequency waves to transfer data
between a reader and a movable item to identify, categorize,
track.
• RFID is fast, reliable, and does not require physical sight or
contact between reader/scanner and the tagged item.
5. Working of RFID
• RFID systems consists of tags, reading devices that convey information from
the tags to computer.
• An unpoerred tag is powered intemittently from a distance by a reader
device that broadcasts energy to it.
• Tag consists of plain antenna bonded to a silicon chip and encapsulated
inside a glass or plastice module.
• Tag operate differently depending on several factors, especially the
frequency thefunction.
• Typically tag need to be less than 1m away from the reader.

Chip: Holds information
about physical object.
Antenna: Transmit radio
signal.
Package: Encases the chip and
antenna, so that tag can be
attached to physical object.
8. Types of RFID Tags
• Active Tag
Contains a battery that runs the microchip's
circuitry.
Tag is able to send stronger signal to the reader due
to battery.
Allow a read range of about one hundred feet.

• Passive Tag
Passive tag contains no battery.
passive tag gets power from a reader.
Reader sends electromagnetic wave that produce a
current in the tag's antenna which then powers the
microchips's circuit.
A passive tag read range ia approxmately thirty feet.

• People tracking:
Hospitals and jails are most tracking required place.Hospital requires RFID tag to track their
special patient.
In jail RFID tags are used to track prisioners.

Shopkeepers use RFID tags to locate there products in shop.
With use of this if anyone tries to escape by not paying bill then they can be tracked in shop.

RFID tags are very easy to
instaal/Inject inside the body of
animals,thus helping to keep a track
on them.
The RFID tag can store a memory
upto 2 Kb.
RFID technology cann't be easily
replicated and therefore, it increases
the securitof products.
• Disadvantages
X It is difficult for an RFID reader to
read the information in casof RFID tag
installed in liquid and metal product.
X RFID technology is referred to as
inasive technology.
X Many countries have different range
of frequiencies that allow RFID tag to
function.
