Latin music is the outcome of a complex social and historical
development that took place in the Americas arrival of Columbus.
It also incorporates African music from the slaves who were elated to
the Americans by the Europeans.

Its past starts not only with the Caribbean culture, but even before
that, from the slaves that came from Africa bringing with them the
beats that were a main source of inspiration for the music that followed

Samba:
The most distinctive Brazilian music, gets its unique rhythm from
“candomble” or the prayer music of Afro-Brazilian religious practices.
The word “samba” means “to pray”.
Bossa Nova:
This is probably the most popular of all Brazilian music. It came from the
samba and actually means the “new way”.

Salsa: This type of music brings instant response and inspires Latin
music lovers worldwide, also there is debate as to where Salsa
originated from.
Some say it to be a newer form of older forms of Afro-Cuban rhythms
coming from Cuba.
Others say that between the years of 1930 and 1960 musicians from
Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba and South America flocked to New York, each
bringing their native rhythms and as they played the influences came
together to become what salsa music is today.
And then of course there is Merengue, Reggeaton, Tango, Cueca,
Bolero, Danzon, Rumba, Cumbia and Mambo among the long list of
types and variations of Latin music.
6. Latin Pop
Latin Pop: Pop music that contains or influence from Latin America, but
can also mean pop music from anywhere in the Spanish/Portuguese
speaking world.
Usually combines upbeat Latin music with American pop music.
It is the most popular Latin music genres of today, before artists like
Thalia, Shakira, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, Latin pop first became
an international craze through the work of bandleader Sergio Menses in
the mid- 19860s.
