5. E-mail Mining-How to find an email address
1. Use the Google Doc spreadsheet at bit.ly/1lTUSbX (Remember that you’ll have to be
logged into your Google account in order to make your own copy of the document)
2. Copy the spreadsheet and fill in the details in the yellow boxes
3. Donot mine gmail/yahoo or other generic email ids(info or contactus or hr)
The spreadsheet’ll provide you with all the possible combinations generally used in the
corporate world to create email address
Most common email syntaxes are:
•first initial +last name@companyname.com
•last name@companyname.com
•first name@companyname.com
•first name+last name@companyname.com
•first initial+last initial@companyname.com
•first initial+last name@companyname.com
•first initial.lastname@companyname.com
•first initial@companyname.com
6. Email mining is done by using the below mentioned tools or methodologies:
•Google Search
It is the most basic form of search google the syntax combinations mentioned in the
above slide(do-not use the double-quotes). Asterisk is usually added to improve the
search results.

7. Incorrect
Correct
•Using Rapportive
If Rapportive populates a profile, I know I have guessed correctly. Note the
difference:
To guess the correct email start by plugging in popular email syntaxes followed by
the company’s domain name in the “Compose Mail” section. There are frequent
instances where you may have guessed correctly, yet it does not populate a profile.
This occurs because their data sources (Rapleaf amongst others) does not possess
additional information for that email.

8. Incorrect
Using MailTester
This service checks whether email addresses are attached to a specific domain
then determines whether the name combination you’re trying is correct. It is
preferably used when rapportive doesn’t come up with relevant results.
Correct Do not permit
If the server allows email address verification, MailTester will let me know if the syntax is
correct.
