Sonia Medina selected teen suicide as the topic for her senior project. She was interested in this topic because suicide has become increasingly common among teenagers. Through her research, she sought to understand the main causes of teen depression and suicide, such as problems with friends, family, and bullying. As part of her project, Sonia joined SADD to help prevent destructive decisions and raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention. She created presentations and flyers for her school and helped organize stress-relieving activities for students. Overall, Sonia's project aimed to educate teenagers that suicide is not the solution to problems and that there are always alternatives and people who can help.

1. Hi my name is Sonia Medina. I became interested on Teen Suicide
since I realize it was becoming really common.
“Suicidal teens, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary
problem. Sincerely, you have so much to look forward to in life”. My overall
project is about Teen Suicide. I look forward to tell you all about Teen
suicide. I selected this project because now a day is one of the most common
causes of death among teenagers.
For this project I had to learn the main reasons causing teenager to
make that decision. Today I will provide you with information about, what
causes depression, the symptoms and ways we can help teenagers to prevent
suicide. My experience with the Senior Project begins with all my research,
exploring what is the main cause of teen depression.
Have you ever felt like just throwing it all away? No matter how
pleasant a person’s life is, there are often times where a person feels
overpowered by feelings of doubt, despair, and hopelessness. The majorities
of people either push these feelings aside or cope with them, and the feelings
diminish and disappear, but there are many who cannot cope. To address
preventing teen suicide, I joined the club SADD (students Against
Destructive Decisions). Part of my senior product I took on leadership in
running the club, growing its membership, developing its usefulness in this
school, made a presentation about depression and ways to prevent it.
Including interview with professionals. Also created flyers to put the around
the entire school forced meetings and I made invitations inviting students to
attend to the presentation.to follow our club hosed a deliberation for students
who need stress relief in hosting an ultimate Frisbee day, finally we planned
a school wide for teacher to nominate a student that had made the right
decision.
One of the main issues that I was focused on was why suicide is such
a common among teenagers. In order to complete my research paper I had to
use; internet and the help of my mentor, who was really helpfully. My
research was trying to teach teenagers by taking their own life away was not
the right choice and that they have a lot of things ahead of them. While
writing my paper I learned that suicide can be caused by many things such
as problems with friends, family, bulling, there are signs that might make a
parent of a teenager to know that their kids are about to commit suicide
although most of those signs might seem to be like normal teenage
behaviors. Prevention can involve friends and personal coping strategies.
While doing my project I found lots of interesting things about suicide
like most of the teens who commit suicide because of bullying, depression
and relationships. The purpose of my project was to inform and teach that

2. suicide is not the answer to solve problems. To complete my product I had
to make time, effort and also it involved a lot of my mentor’s help and
orientation. One of the problems I faced while completing my product was
communication skills, because I was really afraid of approaching to students
that didn’t know and that I didn’t know either.
The sources I used to complete my senior project include my mentor,
the interviews with Mrs. Driscoll, school psychologist and Mrs. Finn, school
counselor and the internet. I also have learned many new things; that we all
deserve something good if we work for it, and that we all have the right to be
heard and not to be afraid of problems no matter how hard they seem.
There’s always a way out by the way out is not taking our own life.
Because of these, I have learned that every single person at some
point needs help or might be having a lot of problems that’s why we should
never judge anybody just because we want too. suicide can always be
prevented and not wait until is too late because there’s always a answer to
our problems and suicide in not one of them.
