1. Visit in Wroclaw
Sunday 5th of March - Friday 10th of March 2017
In March we had our first international visit with students in Poland. 10 students from France,
10 from Spain and 11 from Denmark along with 2 teachers from each country came to visit students
and teachers at Gimnazjum 17 in Wroclaw.
13 students were privately accommodated and the rest stayed at hotels. Those who lived with host
families were warmly welcomed by the families. They experienced the Polish way of living and
tasted Polish food. The Spanish and Danish students who stayed at a hotel shared their rooms so
they had the opportunity to speak a lot of English too and to get to know each other.
We all had a great week in beautiful Wroclaw with many different activities.
Sunday we all arrived and were accommodated.
Monday we were officially welcomed at the school by the headmaster and the Polish teachers.
They had a true Erasmus + cake made for the event. It was really delicious. Later we went
sightseeing in two groups. One group had a tour in the historic center of Wroclaw guided by one of
the history teachers. At the end of the tour, the group climbed a church tower from where they had a
nice view over the city. The other group had a guided tour in Hydropolis, a water museum, and after
that they went by cable car over the Odra River and then by tram to the city center.
Tuesday we all went bowling for two hours. Afterwards group one went to Centennial Hall and
to and art exhibition while group two had the guided historic tour in the city center. Later we all met
to see “Panorama Raclawice”, a huge painting with an interesting history.
Wednesday we went on a coach trip to the mountains, Szklarska Poreba, for the whole day. First
we saw the Julia Glassworks. We had a guided tour and then a glass engraving workshop. It was
really funny to try engraving, but also very difficult! In the mountains we walked to two waterfalls.
The snow was still there so on the way we had a little snowball fight. The waterfalls were really
beautiful. We had a great day and were lucky with the weather: It was a bit cold, but the sun was
shining.
Thursday we had an English class about the World Games and then we tried out two of the
games in the gym: Ringo and tuck-of-war. It was a competition between the countries which
everyone found very amusing.
Afterwards we prepared for the exhibition about our work on projects. Each country presented
their work. There were posters, power point presentations and videos. It was very interesting to hear
about the work in the different countries,
After the exhibition, the students went on a treasure hunt in international groups. They had to find
answers about statues, buildings etc. walking from the school into the Market Square. In there they
had some time to do some souvenir shopping.
Then came Friday - our last day in Wroclaw. First we had two lessons and then we had a farewell
ceremony. Prices were handed out, speeches were made and then it was time to say good bye and
thank you for a great week in Wroclaw.
Apart from the varied programme with sightseeing and other activities, the students learned a lot
from the trip. They spoke a lot of English, they met students from other countries and learned about
their culture, and they experienced the Polish way of living and some of the Polish culture. They
had a week they will never forget.
Dziekuje and Do widzenia!
