Social collaboration technologies are all the rage, and let's face it -- the #newwaytowork is pretty cool and bleeding-edge. But every tool can be misused, overused, and abused -- and IBM Connections is no different! In this spotlight session we will bring you our deepest darkest Connections confessions, as collated from peers and colleagues who begged to remain nameless.
SB: Good afternoon everyone. I'm Shawn.
VS: And I'm Vivienne. We're self-proclaimed social heroes
<crisp high five>
SB: And we're here to share confessions of a Connections addict. We're going to act them out in a little skit
VS: And then explain the larger context of social adoption.
Vivienne introduces
Shawn: Hey Vivienne did you see my post from this morning?
Vivienne: Nope, not yet
Shawn: Oh ok, well I'll @mention you then!
Vivienne: OK, great
Shawn: What about my lunch time post, did you see that one??
Vivienne: I'm very busy and important, I rarely eat lunch
Shawn: Hmmm, no worries, I'll post it to your profile!
Shawn: OMG Marty McFly and Doc Brown just liked my post!
Vivienne: Oh that's nice honey, good for you (unapproving face)
Vivienne: OMG the flux capacitor just blew up! Why didn't you tell me?
Shawn: Vivienne, that's what I've been posting all morning (unapproving face)
Oversharing -> working out loud
Mind shift from "Why share" to "Why NOT share"
Conversations have value.
Shawn to introduce
Vivienne: OMG I just got an email from Biff Tannen with 15 attachments!
Shawn: He's so dumb! Can he not just send a link to all these files.
Vivienne: Seriously, he is such a troglodyte Why does he even still work here.
Shawn: You think that's bad, I got an email with an attached Excel file! OMG why are they not editing this file in "Docs"
Vivienne: Why is everyone we work with so dumb? I've blocked Biff on Sametime and I don't even reply to his emails any more.
Shawn: Idiots!
<together, to audience>: PEOPLE! LEARN TO ADOPT!! <crisp high five>

Vivienne introduces
Shawn: This is a really important job, we need someone good on it
Vivienne: I like George McFly for this.
Shawn: Excuse me? McFly?
Vivienne: Yeah, I'm serious. He's quiet in meetings but he likes and comments on my posts all the time. He actually really knows what he's talking about.
Shawn: Hmmm, you have a point. He's always the first person to answer questions in the Flux Capacitor forum.
Vivienne: Did you know that his presentation is the most liked and downloaded file in that community? I think he just needs a chance to shine.
