19. Rural Broadband Initiative
⢠Final agreement to deliver the RBI accepted 20th April 2011.
⢠Telecom to extend high-speed broadband services into rural
New Zealand.
⢠The six-year programme starts in July 2011 and runs through
to end of June 2017.
⢠More than 700 schools will be connected to 100 Mbps ďŹbre,
about 500 in the ďŹrst year.
⢠All RBI-funded infrastructure will be open access, i.e. available
for competitors to build their own competing services.
