1.
2. For research I first of all created a questionnaire that I then handed out to my target audience, I did this
so that I would get a better idea of what they would like and want from a magazine to ensure that mine
would be successful. This was my questionnaire:
3. I looked at some magazines that shared the same genre and target audience as the one I planned to create,
this helped me gain more ideas as to what I wanted and what style I wanted to follow in. I looked at front
covers, contents pages and double page spreads of music magazines as that is what I would be making I
decided that my main magazine influences are Kerrang and NME so I mainly looked at these two and made
2 PowerPoint's one just for front covers and one for contents pages and double page spreads, where I
analysed them and discussed what I liked about them and what I would use and wouldn’t.
Main influences for each page.
4. I looked at a few font websites but couldn’t find any I liked, however I found a font that
was just on word that I liked so I decided to use this. My magazines name is REBELLION
so as I went for something quite simple I decided to add an image that would be used
as a letter so I put a guitar in the place the “I” would be.
I am quite happy with my logo and think it suits the genre of my magazine well.
5. Original Image Edited Image
These are the images that I
have edited for my magazine,
the first one is the photo that I
have used for my front cover
and the other two are on my
double page spread feature. I
edited each picture the same.
I started each image by
cropping them down and then
I changed the brightness and
contrast and then I added the
auto contrast effect and the
hue/saturation and the curves.
I wanted all my images to have
to same kind of effect so they
all look bright so the colours
stand out more as my target
audience is young adults-
teenagers I thought this would
help my magazine stand out to
them more.
6. Original Image Edited Image These are the images that I
have edited for my magazine, I
carried on using the same
editing effects that I had with
the others for these two,
starting each image by
cropping them down and then
changing the brightness and
contrast and then adding the
auto contrast effect and the
hue/saturation and the curves.
I was doing the same thing
each time I edited an image
because I want all my images
to have the same style
throughout my magazine.
7. Originally this image had a bit too
much background in it that I didn’t
want and this was the case with most
of the images so I started off by
cropping it. Then I went on the
adjustments menu and changed the
brightness and contrast with all the
images I made the brightness levels
higher than he contrast to make it
brighter and after that I just added the
auto contrast effect to it to equalise it
all.
8. Then I changed the hue/saturation to
add a little bit of colour to it and I
changed the lightness as well and
then the curves I used this as I
wanted the background to be more
whiter as there was a bit of grey bits
and darker bits in it then I wanted
the picture to be a bit more brighter.
9. I created my front cover before I had any
of the images as I left getting my images
till quite late so I had some complications
when putting the image I had chosen for
my background on because of some of
colours I had chosen for my text and I had
to change things around from where I
had put them before because they
interfered with the image a bit because
of where I had placed them originally.
My colour theme for my magazine was
black and red so all my text was this
colour except the title of the bands name
as I wanted that to stand out more
because it was the main feature. The
image I used also matched my colour
scheme with a white background then he
black and red and blue of my models
clothes.
10. I wanted more text on my contents page rather
than lots of pictures as when I did my
questionnaire that’s what my target audience said
they preferred. However I did want to use some
images as I didn’t want it to be too plain so I
decided to follow the style of one of Kerrang
magazines contents pages and have a main image
at the top then little ones, they had quite a lot of
little ones which is something I didn’t like so I
decided to just have 2.
11. For my double page spread
I wanted to have one large
that would take up the
whole of one page and
then text on the other page
with a couple of little
images so I did this and
added 3 images in the
middle next to the text and
the large image so they was
in the middle.
Then when I was looking at
other music magazines for
inspirations I looked at this:
And when I looked at this image I like the big red L in the
background under the text so I thought I would do it in mine
with a C for the name of the band that feature on my double
page spread.
12. To get my feedback I created a survey. I wrote the questions I wanted to ask and then I sent
them to people via email and then I put the cover, contents page and double page spread on a
blog as I thought it would be clearer for them if I did it this way. Then I got my results.
13. I have looked at my feedback and overall I would say it is quite good feedback however there are a few
things that I would change if I was to do it again like I needed to make my target audience more clear
and improve my images. I could have done with taking more images as I didn’t take that many.
14. Overall I think that the things I did best in this project were the PowerPoint's I did
where I was analysing magazine covers, contents pages and double page spreads,
doing this research text helped me get ideas for my magazine as I found covers,
contents pages and double page spreads that I liked and decided to use as my
inspirations. I am quite happy with how my final product turned out and it all went
as I had planned it to out of them all I like my double page spread the best. I think
if I was to do this project again then I would have to manage my time better as
time management was definitely a weakness of mine as I didn’t get my images ill
the very last minute which caused me to be behind for a while as there was
nothing I could do without the images but when I did finally get them I completed
all of the editing and adding them to the pages in the same day. I also thought that
the interview I wrote for my double page spread was good although a weakness I
had at first was that I had no idea what to write and for a lot of the time I was
staring at a blank page not knowing what to write but then I started looking online
at double page spread articles in music magazines and looked in some magazines
and read there double page spread interview then I came up with my own ideas
and began writing it.
