Christine de Pizan was an Italian author born around 1364 who lived in Venice, Paris, and Poissy. She wrote poems, narratives on chivalry and courtly love. Her writings impressed influential figures and made her an important spokesperson for women's rights. After her husband and father died, she turned to writing and patronage to support her family. She had to overcome barriers as a woman author and advocate to achieve success in the face of misogyny.
