Dear Colleague,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to participate in SMi’s
third annual edition of Future Armoured Vehicles Situational
Awareness, taking place in London on the 11th and 12th April
2018.
Future Armoured Vehicles Situational Awareness is the sole
conference of its kind exclusively dedicated to this vital
component of our core manoeuvre capability. Its purpose is to
help prepare today’s mechanised and armoured forces for the
challenges of an uncertain and dangerous tomorrow, within
the broader set of C4ISTAR requirements for contemporary land
operations.
This will be achieved through the provision of a forum for
operational users and industry to share their experiences in the
enhancement of situational awareness, information gathering
and dissemination. Particular focus will be placed on the systems
and sub-systems at the forefront of the delivery of situational
awareness to armoured fighting vehicles, including vetronics
architectures, sensor integration, CIS and battle management,
but of course we will also examine the latest developments in
the sensors which these systems stitch together.
Last year’s conference saw over 120 like-minded individuals
convene in London to cooperate in realising this common goal.
Industry representatives from Patria, RFEL, Nexter, Saab, Thales,
Rockwell Collins, Plasan, Photonis, Safran, Lockheed Martin,
Sagem, QinetiQ, Rheinmetall Defence Electronics, Northrop
Grumman, and IAI Elta were among the OEMs present and
supporting the meeting.
There is more to armoured vehicle design than the age-old
triad of firepower, protection and mobility. Without situational
awareness and proper systems thinking, we all know that we’re
not looking at the problem in the round. I urge you to get
involved with your peers in April 2018 and I look forward to seeing
you there.
Yours Sincerely,
Brigadier (ret’d) Ian Cameron-Mowat, Former Head
of Force Protection, Defence Equipment and
Support, British Army
