Presented by Annie Lynsen for the Washington Foundation Center on 4/23/13. (12/31/13 note: Reachli is no longer around, so ignore that section of the slide deck. There are other Pinterest measurement tools available - a quick Google search should help you find them.)

4. • Pinterest is a visually-driven
site where people share
pictures of things they like.
• They create
“boards” (categories) of
“pins” (items/photos/etc.).
• People can search for
keywords, hashtags, or browse
categories like “Food and
Drink,” “Men’s Fashion,”
“Geek,” “Tattoos,” “Weddings,”
etc. to find things to add to
their boards, or upload their
own pictures.
What is Pinterest?
5. Why should I care?
• It’s really popular. By some
measures, it’s the third most-
popular social network.
• It’s a way to reach people who
may not spend a ton of time on
other social networks.
• It’s a network driven by the
ideas of inspiration and
specific interests.
• It’s a new (ideal) place to tell
your story.

21. • DO: Pin things people would
like to share as well as see.
80% of everything pinned is
re-pinned from another board.
• DON’T: Just link to your blog,
over and over.
• DO: Re-share other pins that
are relevant.
• DO: Have a few different
boards that are VERY specific.
Etiquette: Do & Don’t
22. Etiquette: Do & Don’t
• DO: Think pretty! Or at least,
visually-compelling.
• DO: Be creative! Even if you
don’t have great photos, find a
way to make words beautiful.
• DO: Consider your material
effectively public domain once
you put it out there. The point is
that it will be shared.
• DO: Measure!
23. Etiquette: Do & Don’t
• DO: Make sure your video
thumbnails on YouTube are
visually compelling.
• DO: Use good descriptions and
hashtags to aid in searching.
38. How to promote
• Post compelling content.
• Be sure to categorize your
boards.
• Find people posting about your
cause and follow their boards.
• Include hashtags related to
your cause in your post, where
applicable.
• Include your Pinterest link on
stationery, email signatures,
etc.
