Reveal silent heroes
and increase team
morale
When this company on the US East Coast wanted to
improve morale within their teams, they used a word
cloud poll to acknowledge their most valuable
employees.
By asking “Who was your silent hero this month?”
they crowdsourced from their employees the names of
those who had the biggest impact on the team. Using
the word cloud feature made it easy to see which
names stand out.
As a result, the wider team felt recognized and it
increased morale amongst everyone. For the
management, they were able to easily identify those
working hard behind the scenes to support their
colleagues.
Pro tip: Agree on a unified format of the names to
ensure successful outcome of the activity.

Come together as
a team to share
highlights
This company is split over more than 10 locations and
growing rapidly. Keeping all teams engaged and
up-to-date became their top priority. To achieve that,
they introduced ‘monthly highlights’ into their all-hands
meetings to celebrate the achievements of the entire
team.
To involve everyone, they split the team into small
groups, both online and offline. The CEO then
encouraged everyone to share their personal
highlights with one another for 2-3 minutes.
Everyone posted their highlight through the Questions
feature where they were upvoted by the rest of the
company. The CEO then briefly recapped the top
voted achievements and gave recognition to those
involved.
As a result, everyone got to share their
achievement and success while being recognized for
the effort.

Address your
employees’ most
burning questions
Full transparency was important to this law firm and
they wanted employees to know that they could use
their voice to ask anything. To help them achieve this,
they encouraged people to ask questions
anonymously and turned off the moderation feature.
To make the discussion as inclusive as possible, they
invited both onsite and online employees to submit
their questions. They started with the crowdsourcing
in advance and then continued on-site, once the
meeting got underway.
After a quick five minute talk about the vision of the
company, they jumped right into addressing the top
upvoted questions.
As a result, 87% of those invited to the session
participated. The top question was upvoted by 49% of
the audience. Most importantly, employees felt
listened to, rewarding the event with five star
feedback.

Increase
commitment by
asking for feedback
A core part of our all-hands meetings revolves around
company strategy and going through our top-level
metrics. In order to ensure that everyone understood
our goals and to check if the team felt we are heading
the right direction, we asked our employees for their
feedback.
After explaining each set of metrics, we activated a
survey with a 1-5 scale rating poll where they could
express how they felt about the particular goal. The
results were then displayed live, allowing our CEO to
give comments and encourage people who gave low
ratings to elaborate on their thoughts.
As a result, by discussing the goals openly, we
were able to create a better alignment and address
the areas that needed further explanation. We
managed to get commitment from the team and start
the new season strongly.

Organize a
team-driven
world cafe
During an all-company training session, this
technology startup wanted to seize the opportunity of
having everyone under one roof. To tap into the crowd
experience and have people learn from each other,
they organized a World Café session.
In the morning, they crowdsourced the topics the team
wanted to discuss and picked the top six based on the
number of likes. Each topic was then given a facilitator
and people chose the one they were most interested
in.
The facilitator kicked off the session and let people
share insights and best practices for 15 min before
they moved onto another table and topic.
As a result, not only were the team members
given the opportunity to share their experiences but it
brought people together as they realized that they are
not the only ones facing certain hurdles. It was the
most popular session of the day!

Boost understanding
of complicated topics
During the first part of his training session, Dr. Elling
Hamso presented a rather challenging theory of the
ROI Pyramid.
Had the session ended at that, the majority of the
participants would have left with a vague idea of the
concept, but no idea how to apply it to real-life use
cases.
Instead, the second half of the session focused on
realistic applications of the theory. Using live polls,
participants were presented with multiple options and
had to choose the correct answer. As a group, they
then discussed the results to dig deeper into why they
chose their answers.
As a result, the audience left with a deeper
understanding of this complicated piece of theory and
an ability to successfully apply it to real situations. All
because the presenter allowed for reflection and
better assimilation of the presented concepts.

Identify the main
challenges your
team face
At Slido, we wanted to identify the biggest roadblocks
together as a team in order to help define our strategy
for the next quarter.
We split the company into small groups and asked:
“What do you see are the biggest obstacles for us to
succeed in our goals this quarter?”
The groups then submitted their responses via the
Questions feature. Before evaluating the results,
everyone had 2 minutes to review and upvote the
other submissions.
As a result, our goals for the next quarter were
built around our employees. In the discussion that
followed, our CEO was able to address our concerns,
elaborate on the strategy and achieve greater buy-in
from the team.

Introduce new
hires with an
interactive quiz
At our quarterly weekend offsite, we wanted to
introduce the new members of our team and give
everyone a chance to get to know them better.
Instead of letting our new colleagues do an
introduction round on stage, we asked them for two
truths and one lie before the meeting. We put these
into polls and ran an interactive quiz on the spot.
After everyone tried to guess which of the stories was
a lie, the moderator revealed the results and asked
the new hire to share more details.
As a result, having a moderator facilitate the quiz
helped new hires introduce themselves in a much
more enjoyable way. This activity included everyone
and created a relaxed atmosphere of laughter and
astonishment at some of the unbelievable stories.

18. How can you do this?
1. Appoint a moderator to facilitate the exercise

Track satisfaction
across your
company
In order to keep track of how their employees are
feeling, this government department created a
two-minute-to-complete satisfaction barometer which
it sends out to all of its employees each quarter.
It is made up of 10 polls where employees are asked
to rate things like personal excitement, quality
standards and learning and development and one
open text poll where they can expand on their
feelings.
But they don’t stop at having the survey filled in.
During their monthly all-hands meeting, they display
and openly discuss the results live with the entire
team.
As a result, they have created a culture where
feedback is given and acted upon. Meanwhile, they
are constantly listening to their employees and
addressing issues as they arise.Government
20. How can you do this?
1. Create a survey using rating polls (include
open-text poll for comments, too)
2. Attach it to the pre-meeting messaging
3. Once in the meeting, display the results
4. Go through the results and comment

Have a moderator for
employees joining
remotely
When we run our all-hands meetings, about 30% of
the team joins online. It has always been our priority
to ensure that they feel engaged and part of the team
even though they work remotely.
In addition to having an onsite moderator, we appoint
a facilitator dedicated solely to the online participants.
He welcomes them all to the meeting and simulates a
discussion while they are waiting for the meeting to
begin. Once they’re ready to start, he reminds
everyone in the room that the remote teams have
joined too.
During the in-room activities (like monthly highlights),
he replicates the experience for the online audience
by involving them in the discussion.
As a result, the barriers caused by distance
crumble and the remote teams get the chance to
actively participate in what is happening at HQ during
the meeting.
