In a moment of social innovation like the current one, it's important that design moves in an increasingly ethical and inclusive direction.
Billions of people experience discrimination every day because of their gender, age, race, class, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, language and religion.
Even the designers can do their part, ideating messages and services that care about the variety of users' needs, working on listening and involving minorities to overcome the stereotypes that divide us between included and excluded.
Scenario is a serious speculative game for design teams to imagine plausible scenarios starting from the emotional state of a user and to exercise the ability to facilitate environments by reducing barriers.
10. Before I start...
I asked what inclusion is, and someone said this:
The ability to leave no one out of a party.
Then, a few lines later, I asked who the inclusivity addressed
and the same person said this:
Who wants to attend the party.
12. In several cases, design and communication are not inclusive
because they do not represent and sometimes even discriminate
against certain categories of people based on gender, age, race,
class, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
diseducation in diversity
radicalization tokenism
cognitive biases marginaliztion

14. Research steps
Research and study: useful methodologies and approaches.
Benchmark: design tools and board games.
Research and study: inclusive design what it is and how to do it.
Quantitative research: the designers’ suggestions.
Workshop: let’s reflect together on equality and equal representation.

15. Workshop
The workshop involved 11 participants and was crucial because it allowed us
to hear the experiences of typically marginalized people.
Through activities including serious games, each participant was able to
share life experiences and points of view.
16. Asking is okay
Some questions get tiring, but that’s
always good because questions are the
first step to understanding.
Among the things that annoy me the most
in fact I put affirmations.
For example, you are not like the others,
you are better; so I am “the special Arab”,
but I still remain the submissive one.
The data and facts speak for themselves,
let’s use them.
A diversities // B diversities
You never know how to choose, you don’t
know how to truly love.
We are still far from equality, we are very
marginalized and we don’t even deserve
a space.
That’s why I do outreach.
Chairs at restaurants are even-numbered,
seats in cars are two. This world is made
for couples.
I added “neuro divergence” to the word
disability because it needs to be noticed.
There are disabilities, like mental
disabilities, that are invisible. You can’t
see them and therefore they don’t exist.
But they do exist.
Extreme simplification
We are lazy. We don’t have time for
complexity.
Or maybe we don’t want to find it.
We should treat diversity more naturally
and stigmatize less.
Are you different? And well, who cares?
Stop polarizing gender on male and
female.

19. Words define the world
It would be nice to start calling a spade
a spade.
Sometimes it can feel weird and we
don’t know how to put ourselves, but we
should make an effort. Why can’t I say
she’s fat? It’s like it’s an insult.
People who are discriminated against
know they are discriminated against.
We are not afraid to talk about
discrimination.
We need acceptance, simplicity and
practicality.

22. Quantitative
research
With the quantitative research, we investigated the current state of the
relationship between design and inclusion.
The survey involved 58 designers, 46.6% of whom were students and
another half of junior, senior and freelance professionals.
