Project Manager Of The Residential Program At Applewood...
Ms. Sanders It s time for you to open the door to endless possibilities these were the exact words
spoken to me by the program manager of the residential program at Applewood Centers Inc. It was at
this instant that I knew this was the perfect company to complete my foundation internship. While
researching organizations to intern at, I kept coming back to Applewood. This organization has so
much to offer to its participants. What really won me over with pursing this organization was an
annual meeting I attended in which a former client stood and gave his testimony about his journey in
the residential treatment facility, he expressed that he had never felt so cared for by complete
strangers. He also stated that he learned so much in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these services include foster care and adoption programs, outpatient and in home therapy,
residential treatment programs for both boys and girls, and three different alternative day school
programs. This agency also has a partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to
provide educational services to all children who are apart of the residential treatment programs. All of
the therapy programs offered at Applewood Centers are run by state licensed therapist and counselors.
Each service was created to meet the specific needs of all program participants. A variety of funding
services from the county and other community resources are available to cover the cost of services
offered at Applewood Centers Inc., these services are supplied to the program participants in an
abundance of ways. First there is individual counseling that is used to address specific behavior and
mental health issues. Next there is group counseling which is aimed at building relationship skills and
focusing on specific topics such as building trust and family involvement. Finally there are also
preventive group programs which are designed to help clients make better life choices. Some of these
preventive group topics include violence prevention, developing appropriate social skills, and anger
management. The goal of these services are to help the clients successfully transition back into society

The State Of Texas County
In Texas, each county is governed by a five member Commissioners Court, which consists of a
County Judge (elected at large) and four Commissioners (elected from single member precincts). The
County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the
other Commissioners. In smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions, while in
larger counties their role is limited to the Court. Elections are based on the political parties, Democrat,
Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority
because their authority is strictly limited by the State. Texas counties, merely exist to deliver specific
types of services at the local level as prescribed by state law, but cannot enact or enforce local
ordinances.
254 counties make up the state of Texas. The Dallas metropolitan area is much larger, and is one of the
fastest growing in the country. The 12 county Dallas Fort Worth Arlington (DFW) metropolitan area
has a population of 6,985,579 and is expected to be 7,960,117 by 2020 (Texas Population 2020
Projections, 2014). Nearly one million new residents in the DFW metropolitan area will cause more
traffic congestion, the need for new jobs and more housing. People normally like to live closer to their
employers, so the areas with the best jobs will see faster population growth. Cities and counties need
to compete for companies much like they did with Toyota. Toyota moved their U.S.

USAA Code Of Ethics Essay
Ethics is a word that most described with doing what is right, and to be a company that wants to
supply a good or service to people, doing what is right is a quality that company would want to have.
One of the first companies that comes to mind when I think about integrity would be United Services
Automobile Association also known as USAA. This is an insurance company that has so much to offer
other than just insurance like banking services. USAA is a company that started with a noble cause of
just wanting to help those who have served this country by providing discounted rates on insurance.
When you go to USAA online website, you will find Service. Loyalty. Honesty. Integrity. Our core
values guide everything we do, and this is literally how every employee under this company s name

USAA employees, many of whom are former military personnel, undergo a unique and rigorous
training process designed to help them understand the perspective of the customers they serve. The
training is meant to instill a sense of solidarity and empathy with USAA s customer base before an
employee begins to respond to a customer (Fleurke, X.) . Every time a customer calls USAA customer
service, they are ask to do an anonymous survey, because this company genially cares about the
customers and wants to know what the customer wants, needs and likes. The military teaches our
soldiers to build a brotherly bond that cannot be broken, and the retired military employees that USAA

Gjb2 Protein In Gap Junction
Abstract Summary
Gap junctions are large channels which join two adjacent cells connecting their cytoplasm s allowing
direct cell to cell communication and interactions by the channeling of molecules. A gap junction is
composed of two hemichannels known as connexions, one located on the membrane of each of the
adjacent interacting cells. The binding of six connexin subunits is required for the formation of each of
the connexion hemichannels which then join together via hydrophobic interactions forming a pore
through which molecules such as metabolites, calcium and potassium ions as well as secondary
messengers (IP3, cAMP) are able to passively diffuse across between interacting cells. This mode of
cell to cell communication via the passage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have been done on the crystal structure of the channel in particular structure of its pore
suggests its importance in the regulation of its size dependant permeability by trans junctional voltage
for specific ions and molecules between the connected adjacent cells. (Qu, Y., Dahl, G. , 2002 ; Maeda
et al. , 2009).The permeability is regulated at the funnel of the channels pores which is composed of 6
amino terminal alpha helices lining the channels walls. The funnel is located on the cytoplasmic side
of either cell which are narrower than the inside of the channel itself allowing for the selective
permeability of different sized molecules and ions by trans junctional voltage (Qu, Y., Dahl, G.). In the
case of deafness, some mutations resulting in abnormal connexin26 subunits result in a change in this
voltage of the gated channels which in turn alter the selective permeability of the formed connexion
gap channel. (Mese et al. ,

Causes Of Immigration In America
The United States experienced major waves of immigration during the colonial era, the first part of the
19th century and from the 1880s to 1920. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater
economic opportunity, while some, such as the Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of
religious freedom.
From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came to America against
their will. The first significant federal legislation restricting immigration was the 1882 Chinese
Exclusion Act.
Individual states regulated immigration prior to the 1892 opening of Ellis Island, the country s first
federal immigration station. New laws in 1965 ended the quota system that favored European
immigrants, and today, the majority of the country s immigrants hail from Asia and Latin America.
From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original inhabitants
who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America tens of thousands of years ago. By
the
1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what
would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in
present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America s first settlers came in
search of freedom to practice their faith. In 1620, a group of roughly 100 people later known as the
Pilgrims fled religious persecution in Europe and arrived at present day Plymouth,

Essay on The Mbuti Culture
Mbuti Culture
Introduction
The Mbuti people are known as foragers because their main source of survival lies on hunting and
gathering as they move from one place to another. They originated from a region in Africa called
Congo. The Mbuti people even with their fairly decent population prefer to be grouped into smaller
groups or bands which are mostly made up of close relatives. They live in the rainforests of central
Africa, where they have lived popularly for more than 6000 years now.
Different anthropologists such as Nowak and Laird (2010), and Butler (2006), recommended that
these residents of jungles contain an exclusive background; position, morals and everyday life is
entirely through big adjustment. It can be said that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a bird named the Greater Honey steer that flies to the bee hives and demonstrates the Mbuti
where the honey is. The honey steers live on beeswax. According to Kaczynski, (2010), he described
that the Mbuti people constructed their homes from leaves and branches. They dress in small clothing
as it is forever warm in the rainforest. They create their clothing from leaves and objects they discover
in the rainforest. Their techniques of life are in hazard as of the obliteration of the rainforest that they
exist in. The government has attempted to teach them how to farm, however the Mbuti do not wish to
alter the techniques of their lives.
They are conscious about passageway, rivers and valleys. The Mbuti hunts through traps, nets and
arrows. Bend over hunting is masculine issue, at the same time as net hunting is completed by both
sexes; (women and men). The men rest in the traps and the women attempt to redden nature out of
their defeating spot. Some animals they hunt are the antelopes, ants, crawfish, pigs, worms, insects,
snails, monkeys and fishes. The head of the hunters shares all the meat with his grouping. A further
leader technique of achieving food is plundering. This is when women and men explore the jungle
headed in groups gathering every sort of plants: honey, roots, fruits, leaves, wild yams, berries and
cola nuts etc.

Tradition and Change in The Kitchen God s Wife and The Joy Luck Club
Throughout the novels The Kitchen God s Wife and The Joy Luck Club, author Amy Tan conveys the
message of tradition and change. Each novel contains sections about mothers talking and relating their
stories to their daughters. The daughters in The Joy Luck Club hear stories about loss and happiness,
and joy and hate. Each of the four mothers tell these stories to their daughters as lessons, or offerings
for their futures. They tell the stories to show how lucky their daughters have been, yet how their lives
will never be the same as their own lives have been. They try to help their daughters on some level
with these stories. Yet they comprehend the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, with even more consistency, she will view her mother with irritancy or sadness. On the surface,
Winnie s ways are more irritating than mysterious to the daughter. (Yglesias) Even in the first
sentence the reader lays eyes on, Pearl demonstrates these grievances she harbors, Whenever my
mother talks to me, she begins the conversation as if we were already in the middle of an argument.
(Tan, 3) and further in her segments of the novel, she indicates quite a few problems she has with her
mother. Similarly, Tan also has these problems with her mother Tan felt that she had disappointed her
mother when she dropped out of medical school... (Feng) I secretly worried that I had missed better
opportunities. My mother had put those thoughts in my head. (Tan, 8) To this day, it drives me crazy,
listening to her various hypothesis, the way religion, medicine and superstition all merge with her own
beliefs. (Tan, 27) Yet, sadly, Pearl also says that there s a lot I don t know about my mother. (Tan, 53)
Through these silent criticisms of her mother, Pearl assigns herself a critical perspective on her mother
s life. (Yglesias)
The daughters relate to readers that their perceptions of their mother s traditions and culture, even
though those perceptions might be different than the ones the mothers hoped toconvey, have

Defender of the Faith INTRODUCTION It was 312 A.D. the period of the Persecuted Church was
coming to an end. Constantine dream in which he claimed to have seen in the sky a shining cross

Constantine s Edict of Toleration officially put an end to the persecutions (Hurlbut 59). The edict
brought much positive and negative change both to the church and the state. At that time, new

Seneca Falls Convention And New York
Seneca Falls Convention The Seneca Falls Convention was the first woman s rights convention in the
United States. The assembly was organized by many women who were present in abolition and
temperance movements, and lasted for two days, July 19 20 on 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. The
convention s main purpose was to bring attention to unequal treatment of women, and brought about
300 women, including around 40 men. The Seneca Falls Convention played a major role in women s
rights throughout the United States and is composed of important before, during, and aftermath
history. Eight years before the Seneca Falls Convention, in 1840, a World Anti Slavery Convention
was held in London. There, delegates had voted to not have women participate in the convention and
sit in a sectioned off area. At that time two of the Seneca Falls Convention organizers were present,
Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Lucretia Mott was a mid forties Quaker minister,
abolitionist, and feminist. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was young bride and abolitionist who admired
Mott, who soon became close friends. At some point during the convention, they spoke about the idea
of having a woman s rights convention. Eight years later, Stanton lived in Seneca Falls and Mott came
to visit her sister, Martha C. Wright, in a neighboring town Waterloo. While in a social visit on July
14, Luretia Mott, Elizabeth Stanton, Martha C. Wright, Jane Hunt, and Mary Ann McClintock

The global consulting industry has generated $240 billion revenues in 2015 and as such represents one
of the largest markets within the professional services industry (Consultancy.uk, n.d.). Even if strategy
consulting constitutes solely 12% market share (i.e., $28.8 billion) it is the most prestigious sector

strategy consulting occupies a special position. Companies of that sector not solely provide strategy

While the former constitutes the functional positioning of its organizational units, the latter describes a
pattern of shared basic assumptions that was learned by a group as it solved its problems of external
adaptation and internal integration, that has worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore,
to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those
problems (Schein, 2004, p. 17).
Due to the characteristics of the business model of strategy consulting, Bain Company s organizational

Dody Dysmorphic Disorder
Body dysmorphic disorder or BDD is a type pf mental illness in which you can t stop thinking about a
flaw in your appearance. You intensely obsess over your appearance and body image, often for many
hours a day. Your perceived flaw causes you significant distress, and your obsession impacts your
ability to function in your daily life. You may seek out numerous cosmetic procedures or excessively
exercise to try to fix your perceived flaw, but you re never satisfied. Body dysmorphic disorder is also
known as dysmorphophobia, the fear of having a deformity. Although the exact cause of BDD is still
unclear, experts believe it is related to problems with serotonin, one of the brain s chemical
neurotransmitters. Poor regulation of serotonin also plays a role in obsessive compulsive disorder
(OCD) and other anxiety disorders, as well as depression Some people may be more prone to
problems with serotonin balance, including those with family members who have problems with
anxiety or depression. This may help explain why some people develop BDD but others don t.
Cultural messages can also play a role in BDD by reinforcing somebody s concerns about appearance.
Critical messages or unkind teasing about appearance as someone is growing up may also contribute
to a person s sensitivity to BDD. But while cultural messages, criticism, and teasing might harm
someone s body image, these things alone usually do not result in BDD. People with BDD obsess over
their appearance

Economic Growth And Development Of Host Countries
The world has experienced economic growth and development over the past years. As a result of this,
some countries experience high growth of mega cities and urbanization in general. Wang et al. (2009)
noted that, migration of the world population into the world cities have almost doubled since 20th
century. The growth of cities has been associated to high living standards and high social status of the
people. Fujita (2012) in his report realized that, the booming urbanization has led to the growth of
most countries GDP.
Even though, there is already massive development in growth of urbanization across the globe, the
growth is projected to continue at a greater rate than before. With the developing countries expected to
experience rising number of megacities. In addition, a greater population is expected to invade the
cities continuously. Moreover, the increasing number of cities has been noted to contribute
tremendously to economic development of host countries. According to Liotta (2012), a booming
political economy within the cities drives the development of developing countries.
However, despite the huge benefits of the growth and development of megacities across the world,
most urbanists and economists have realized that, there is persistent overpopulation and poverty in
most Asia, Africa and Latin America countries. This has incapacitated the urbanization efforts and
strengths of most countries. Kaplan (2012) points out that, most megacities across the globe face

to obtain riches or ships from otherwarriors. Similar to pirates, they used brute force to take what they
wanted. Street gangsalso use such violence. Whether it be to protect their property or members, or to
stealfrom others, gangsters use various weapons to obtain what they want. Just as paganwarriors
fought battles with rival villages, street gangs also engage in battles with rivalgangs or sometimes with
police. Gang violence can vary from street fights to drive byshootings, often involving innocent
victims. This horrible violence is evident in themedia. It varies from gansta rap such as 2Pac or Dr.
Dre, to movies such as New JackCity or Juice, and can even be seen in such TV shows as New York
Undercover and NYPD Blue . A less obvious example of gangs is in the new version of Romeo
andJuliet. In this rendition of the old Shakespeare classic, the Capulets and Montagues areno longer
just rival families, but now rival gangs who engage in tremendous violenceagainst each other to keep
the two lovers apart. But gang violence is also felt quite closeto home. The guard for NC State s

Coming Of Age By Richard Wright
Coming of Age Richard Wright is the author of numerous short stories and books, two of which
include The Man Who was Almost a Man and Big Boy Leaves Home. The first story, The Man Who
was Almost a Man, follows seventeen year old David, who one days becomes angered by the way he
is treated by older men. The second story, Big Boy Leaves Home, follows four young African
Americans who one day skip school. Richard Wright has a very unique writing style, which helps him
develop his characters very fast. Author Richard Wright s short stories are both written to illustrate
how one s decisions can affect their future. The Man Who was Almost a Man follows Dave, who he is
mad; because, he is not treated like a man. While walking to town, Dave is confronted by a few
African American field workers, who talk to him as if he is a child, which angers him. Dave believes
that if he purchases a gun, he will no longer be seen as a child; but, be seen as a man. The main
character makes his way to the local convenience store, where he encounters Joe, who gives Dave a
catalog filled with guns. Joe than promises to sell Dave his old gun for two dollars, instead of having
to pay a lot of money for a new gun. He rushes home and corners his mom after dinner, attempting to
get the money from his mom. His mom gives him the money on two conditions, which are he brings
the gun straight to her and that it is a gift for his father. Dave hurries to the store and pays for his prize;

The Characteristics Of An Epic Hero In The Epic Of Beowulf
What makes epic hero stories so compelling? Is it the continuous freedom, courage, and value in
society or is it the significance implemented in who the characters are? Stories have been passed down
for generations. Some of the most famous examples is Beowulf, šGilgameshš , Iliad, and šJulius
Caesar.š Epic stories portray the development of an epic heroes characterization through courage,
strength, and love of glory throughout the plot of a story. A major epic hero trait is courage. The act of
picking yourself up after you were thrown down to help others. In the story of Beowulf, Beowulf
saved the Danes. ÂŽÂŽAnd a young prince must be prudent like that, giving freely while his father lives
so that afterwards in age when fighting starts steadfast companions will stand by him and hold the

Beowulf) This selection is describing Beowulf as a prince and warrior who is courageous enough to
fight his life for people he cares about. Since Grendel often attacks at night, it displays the setting as a
more hard and rigid area. The behavior of saving people brings power within the epic hero. ÂŽÂŽ Beowulf
got ready, donned his war gear, indifferent to death; his mighty, hand forged, fine webbed mail would
soon meet with the menace underwater. It would keep the bone cage of his body safe.ÂŽÂŽ (Spark Notes

Growth Mindset Research Paper

Fixed mindset, growth mindset, praise effort and praise for intelligence with impact and my
experience about them with specific examples
Mindsets are beliefs which people hold on their most basic abilities and qualities. In the growth
mindset, individuals believe that they can develop their talents, brain, and skills. This creates an
environment for learning, resilience and a drive for growth. On the other hand, people believe in a
fixed mindset that primary qualities like abilities and intelligence are fixed and cannot be developed. It
also believes that talents create success alone, and it does not take effort as the strategy needed to
maximize one s potential rather than a sign of weakness. For example, transforming motivation ...

Teaching individuals to develop growth mindset will encourage the process and not on talent or
intelligence. Teachers and parents can make children develop growth mindset by praising their
strategies and persistence, by giving them stories that emphasize on effort and the Importance of
learning, and teaching the students that a brain is a learning tool or machine (Gupta, et al., 2012). The
society is currently worshipping talent and individuals assume that having the ability or superior
intelligence with confidence is one way of succeeding. Overemphasis on talent or intelligence leaves
students prone to failure, afraid of challenges and they are not ready to accept their shortcomings
(Taylor, et al., 2014). Praising innate abilities of children, reinforce fixed mindset, which can prevent
people in workforces or young athletics and even the married people to live up to their potential. By
teaching students to have the growth mindset encourages them to use their personal effort and come
up with effective strategies and not talent or intelligence which will help them to achieve highly in life
and even in school. As theories suggest, students who have growth mindset believes that learning is
the crucial goal than performing well in school with good grades. Hard work is highly regarded,
believing that if you labor on something, it will lead to perfection. Even the geniuses have to put

Pe Should Be Taught In Schools Essay
Obesity is a worldwide problem everywhere, However; we also have P.E. classes in the United States,
and yet, obesity rates are still going up. If our P.E. classes are helping obesity at all, it s barely any. It
would be a better use of time if we turned gyms into classrooms, and used all the money going into
P.E. equipment into more/better school supplies or give our teachers better pay. Everyone knows on
the inside that things like math and science are more important than running around 45 minutes every
other day. So we need to decide what should really be a part of a school day. Not running around a
track. When we all get older we aren t going to keep or want to keep these healthy habits because the

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional distortion of the chest...
Scoliosis is a three dimensional distortion of the chest cage, which typically produces a reduction in
pulmonary function, caused by stiffness of the chest wall and decrease in the force of the respiratory
muscles (8). However, the current study showed a negative relationship between the degree of Cobb
angle, which indicates spinal deformity, and pulmonary function although the relationship was not
statistically significant. An inverse relationship between spinal deformity and pulmonary function has
been reported by a few studies. Vitale et al. found that the degree of thoracic curves was negatively
correlated with FEV1. There was also a trend toward significant negative correlations between
thoracic curves and FVC. Patients with larger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Increased frequency of respiratory impairment was also found in 50 patients aged 11 to 78 years with
untreated idiopathic scoliosis, especially those with a severe degree of scoliosis (13).
In contrast, ventilatory function may be impaired in mild, idiopathic scoliosis and that the force
developed by the respiratory muscles is a more important determinant of this impairment than the
radiologically determined degree of spinal curvature (14). The changes are restrictive in type with
reduction in vital capacity (VC) and TLC but normal residual volume. In children whose curves had
an early onset, the amount by which VC was reduced depended on the severity of the deformity; this
severity had little or no effect on VC in those whose curves began in adolescence (15).
Our study found that the more proximally located spinal curve resulted in more impairment in the
pulmonary function. In addition to thoracic scoliosis, thoracolumbar scoliotic curves were included in
the study because those curve patterns, while not confined to the chest, may theoretically distort the
orientation and function of the diaphragm and the mechanics of the chest with unexpected effects on
pulmonary function. The finding was in line with those reported by other studies. They found that pre
operative pulmonary function tests have identified as

Tucked away in a corner of The Oaks mall sits a quiet bookstore. Its exterior is something that

Books new ones that remain to be sorted, you guess tower precariously on either side of the counter,
and above the register is the name of the bookstore in an olive green. Surrounding it are small, framed
chalkboards. They advertise things like story time on Sundays and a book club in intricate
handwriting. Everything has a nostalgic tinge to it. From wooden bookshelves to chalkboard
handwriting, the Open Book seems to be a space removed from the digital age of Kindles and fancy
computer search systems. Even the store décor is reminiscent of a simpler time, with hand lettering
painted on the walls and framed artwork from past art competitions the bookstore has held. But of
course, the first thing that will catch your eye if you enter is the word Vintage painted black in a neat,
serif font along what seems to be the back wall. Curiously, you may approach this wall first, and
without fault it is one of the bookstore s proudest walls. The shelves here are lined with books that
look like they fell out of a library scene in a Hollywood movie. A little dusty, and a little worn, these
books boast of their history. Many of the texts are bound in a deep red or navy blue, labeled in gold
lettering and arranged by color. This wall alone may be the most picturesque in the entire store.

* Summarize three primary reasons that turn is so high in this is industry.
1. One reason for the high turnover rate of hospitality staff is the fact that many hospitality jobs do not
pay well. Personnel usually begin at a lowest wage rate or below which does not fascinate top
eminence long term employees because these employees are always looking for a better paying
position. Situations that pay below tiniest net depend entirely on customer satisfaction and liberality.
Tips . Around the world, the average beginning wait staff personnel is paid $2.15 per hour by their
employer. The rest of their revenue is based pay on the urge of their customers. Monetary turn downs
mean fewer consumers, which in turn shrinkage is wage potential. Add this to the fact that many
hospitality positions are seasonal and it is not hard to see why hospitality staff turnover can reach high
rates quickly.
2. The second reason for high rates of hospitality staff turnover include deficiency of plentiful doles
such as company provided health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation pay, sick leave, additional
schooling or exercise programs and other peripheral benefits which are so often perks of other
industries. Since the labor pool for a large portion of hospitality jobs is so poor and turnover is so
high, a majority of hospitality companies are unwilling to capitalize in programs which would

There are various pressing factors that contribute to overweight Latino children. Latino adolescents
find few options for physical activity out of class. Some areas have limited access to parks,
playgrounds, and other recreational areas, making it difficult for them to be active and maintain a
healthy weight. Schools are also contributing to the issue. A majority of today s Schools sell high fat,
high sugar snack foods and beverages in vending machines and school stores. These malicious foods
are easier to come by and cheaper, appealing more to the developing minds of students. Schools have
been known to lack access of healthy foods, such as fresh produce, whole grains, and low fat dairy
products (Latino Childhood Obesity). Marketers are also a huge contribution to the rise in obesity
among the Latino youth. About 74 percent of kid targeted food and drinks ads on television promote
foods in the lowest nutritional category (Ramirez). Young children are affected more by food
advertisements, especially fast foods. Fast food commercials advertise toys with the purchase of a kid

to encourage children to want to go there, increasing their intake of high calorie and Tran s fat food.

Sexual Abuse and Eating Disorders Essay
Sexual Abuse and Eating Disorders
The possible relationship between sexual abuse and the development of an eating disorder has gained
attention over the last few years. Researchers have attempted to clarify this potential link using a
variety of population samples and research methodologies. As will be shown, the results of these
investigations are rather diverse and sometimes inconclusive. In the following review of the literature,
the complex relationship between sexual abuse and eating disorders will be examined while also
discussing the methodological limitations of the various designs.

To compare rates of sexual traumata among eating disordered women to those among women with
other psychiatric disturbances (eating disorders excluded), a group of 21 women in hospital inpatient
or outpatient treatments was formed, all within the age range of the eating disordered subjects who
were not actively psychotic or heavily medicated. A normal control group contained 24 women
consisting of hospital staff, parents, friends, and students comparable in age to the eating disordered
subjects.
The Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ, Bond, Gardner, Christian, Sigal, 1983; Bond Vaillant, 1986)
was used to assess defense styles. In order to study sexual traumata, the authors used a self report
questionnaire on which subjects indicated the following about sexual traumata during their childhood
and adolescence: (1) the perpetrator; (2) the victim; (3) the nature of the abuse; (4) the frequency of
the abuse; and (5) their age when the abuse occurred. Also, to determine the presence of eating
disorders among the control subjects, the authors chose to use the Eating Attitudes Test (Garner
Garfinkel, 1979).
The authors noted that 30% of the eating disordered women reported sexual traumata; however, such
traumata was prevalent among bulimics (particularly those with no anorexic history), but was rare
among anorexic restricters. Furthermore, subjects showing mixed anorexic and bulimic symptoms,

Pros And Cons Of Poaching
Stopping poaching is not just in the interests of animals... it is in the interest of us, and in the interests
of our humanity. Stated by the International Anti Poaching Foundation (Problem). Poaching rates, as
large as they are, are growing rapidly and have yet to slow down in the past years. People are willing
to do whatever it takes to poach an animal, since the amount ivory sells for has grown tremendously.
There are many different alternatives to ivory so there is no reason for the poaching rates to rise. Most
people don t even realize that poaching affects our ecosystems in numerous ways. To stop poaching
would be to end all the suffering these animals feel almost every day.

they have yet had time to recover from (Effects). Poaching does not just include the African elephants;
the black rhino population has decreased 97.6% since 1960. At current poaching rates, these incredible

Cursive Writing Persuasive Essay
Why we don t need cursive writing Only seven states in the US teach cursive California, Idaho,
Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. In my opinion cursive writing should not still be

it, and you really only need it for your signature. To start off, having no prier knowledge could you
grandparents read it what about you kids and in school there s no time for teachers to teach it with
how busy they are with notes and helping and everything that teachers have to do during schools
hours. Teachers are always walking around, either helping students or going to get something or

those there s no time for cursive anymore. Secondly, only seven states still teach cursive these day can
you believe that only seven out of all 50 states teach cursive. For one thing students think its to hard to
write it so they just end up quitting. Obviously, they end up never learning there cursive, kids just gave

Discrimination Towards The Lgbt Community
Throughout the years, the LGBT community has put forth tremendous effort to gain rights and
recognition in the United States. Yet there have been numerous laws that have discriminated and made
them feel unequal. LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered. Many people in the
community have a hard time accepting who they truly are in terms of sexual orientation or gender
identity. Coming out is challenging enough on its own, and laws and regulations that discriminate
against those who only wish to live freely can make it hard for them to do so. Living in the time
period we do, we have seen many changes in the right direction as far as having equal rights for all,
but it has not always been this way. There have been many movements and actions the LGBT
community has taken over the years to get to where we are today. There have also been many laws and
regulations specifically targeted at same sex and transgendered individuals, some of which that still
apply today. Discrimination towards the LGBT community is not something new. Although today it
may seem normal to see two men holding hands walking down the street, forty years ago it was almost
unheard of. This is why the Supreme Court case Baker vs. Nelson made headlines. In 1972, the Court
ruled that a Minnesota same sex couple had no constitutional right to marry. This all started when two
male University of Minnesota students went to fill out a marriage application form. When the clerk

The Impact Of Mass Media On Children
Mental health problems have been affecting nearly every society in some way, shape, or form for as
long as we can remember. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one million
people die from suicide every year (Schaefer, 2018, p. 6). Durkheim also noted that the suicide rate in
a society reflects how well the people were integrated in the society (Schaefer, 2018, p. 7). The
problem that I want to focus on revolves around how marketing to children teaches them values, like
material objects and money, that will eventually lead to higher rates of anxiety and depression at an
earlier age. It is known that the mass media strongly influences kids ages 12 to 17, but the age at
which kids gain access to technology is starting to decline (Schaefer, 2018, p. 90). Gradually, we can
see how the media has an overwhelming effect on the youth from the way children think about their
future and their career path to the way that they play. This is directly observed in a nationwide survey
of incoming college freshmen which shows that values having to do with money and power rose from
42 percent in 1966 to 82 percent in 2015 (Schaefer, 2018, p. 63). If corporations constantly promote
the idea that having more things will lead to happiness, then when kids can t have those things they
start to believe that they can t be happy without them. Method In this study, the first variable that will
be measured are the time kids (age five to twelve) spend either watching TV or on

Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting
The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring
Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie
is about a man named Good Will Hunting who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because
of fear of past experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of the
other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of him. This essay
discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the other characters in the movie.
Good Will Hunting possessed the following personality traits, namely: independence, intense interest
in a problem, and the need for stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to
live his own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting proved his
independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to enjoy complete freedom.
Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or gifts and initially chose to stay in South
Boston with his friends. Like in the case with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to
people with the fear of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as
was in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his counselor. It was
during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we learned, Sean Maguire, was also
talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach
at a local community college instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a
construction worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of independency,
he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per his intensity of interest in a
problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a problem that was presented to him until he had
discovered a solution. Some examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the
chalkboard where he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Another is when he

Descriptive Essay On The Pond
The Pond
It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been
muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun
shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider,
and a pack of Twixℱ and got onto our bikes.
Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was
parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could
wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the
sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and
started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road.
We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get
there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We
made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision.
I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the

Simon Sacrifice In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Sacrifice of the Innocent
At the end of chapter nine in The Lord of the Flies, William Golding utilizes figurative language to
establish Simon as a Jesus figure, who dies and becomes released from his suffering. After Simon s
realization that what the boys believe is the beast is instead a dead man with a blue parachute, he

summon the beast so that they have the opportunity to kill it. Because they mistake Simon as a beast
as he attempts to tell them of his discovery of the dead man, Simon is forcefully pulled into the center
of the boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding associates Simon with goodness and gives him an angelic demeanor, to the extent that even
the environment Simon spends his last moments on land has a phosphorescent aura and pearls covered
the rocks around him, much like how heaven is depicted in the Bible. Golding purposefully amplifies
the religious facets of Simon s death, because the sins, or stains, seep from [Simon s] broken body... ,
as well as the line of his cheek [silvers] and the turn of his shoulders [becomes] sculptured marble
(154). Simon, like the statue of Jesus, is in a way forming into a silver, tone like figure, in order to
somehow preserve the memory of his innocent suffering. His body lifts and opens as the sun shines
upon him, and morphs into almost a duplicate of Jesus with his arms out in a cross like position.
Around his head many strange attendant creatures (154), or flies, busy themselves and form a sort of
halo, much like a halo on the heads of angels. The tide is much calmer than it has been since the brutal
killing of Simon, and the deep ocean imbibes him, as well as somewhere over the darkened curve of
the world the sun and moon [are] pulling, and the film of water on the earth planet [is] held, bulging
slightly ...

Legalizing Victimless Crime
Decriminalization of victimless crime is a topic that occur often in current events. With the overdose
suffered by Lamar Odom in one of Nevada s Brothel is a most recent example., Presently legalizing
Marijuana is the hot topic. Others have argued for legalization of other victimless crimes, such as
prostitution and assisted suicides. Some of the arguments that have been made concerning victimless
crimes are that the criminal justice system is already backed up and who has moral authority to
criminalize activities that two consenting adults agree to make. These crimes are considered illegal
because government agencies have declared them illegal. Prostitution has been made legal in Nevada
under state supervision Brothels have been created allowing

Analysis Of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome ( Pcos )
About 5 10% of the female population is affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The cause
is unknown, but it is considered to be the most common endocrine disorder in women. Genetics and
insulin resistance are believed to play a significant role. One of the first symptoms is an irregular
period. Others include an imbalance in the female sex hormones, weight gain, and male patterned hair
growth and balding. Aside from hormonal treatments, there are some natural ways to treat PCOS and
eliminate many of the symptoms. A proper diet and weight loss routine is essential. After my own
horrific experience with PCOS, I decided to take my health into my own hands. At the beginning of
the month, I weighed 320 lbs. My goal is to get down to 180 lbs. by April 13th, 2014. Today is Day 13
of my lifestyle change and my current weight is 301.2 lbs. Here are some helpful things I ve learned
so far: Keep a Weight Loss Journal So many of the weight loss tips I d read talked about keeping some
sort of journal to keep track of progress, calories, and the weight lost. I registered at MyNetDiary and
began using that immediately. I chose MyNetDiary because it also featured an application for my
smartphone, making it accessible on the go. Try to Plan Your Meals Ahead of Time With MyNetDiary,
your meal can be planned beforehand. I find it works best if you start getting an idea the night before
about what your meal plan is going to look like the next day. If you have a vague idea, you

An Engineered Wonder of the World
An Engineered Wonder of the World This bridge needs neither praise, eulogy nor encomium. It speaks
for itself. We who have labored long are grateful. What Nature rent asunder long ago, man has joined
today. This is a quote from Joseph Strauss, the engineer that designed the Golden Gate Bridge. The
Golden Gate Bridge is truly a piece of engineering excellence. It stretches for almost 9,000 feet over
the San Francisco Bay, in San Francisco, California. The bridge has faced many problems during the
designing process, construction, and even to this day it produces controversy. The final result of the
bridge, however, is an amazing engineering feat that will be around for a long time. To begin, in 1916,
James H. Wilkins had the idea to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the pressure is supported by the cables. These vertical cables receive the bridge`s tension
forces. The Golden Gate Bridge is a textbook suspension bridge (Lamb, Robert, and Michael
Morrissey). Thus, with all of the designs and made, the Golden Gate Bridge was ready to be built. To
continue, it was January 5th, 1933, when construction officially started on the bridge. The two
anchorages of the bridge were the first parts to be built. The first of the two to be built was on the San
Francisco side of the bay. The other on the Marin side of the bay. The San Francisco tower access
trestle was then started. It extended for more than 1,000 feet off shore. Unfortunately, a major setback
was met on August 14, 1943. On this date, a steamship crashed into the access trestle, and damaged
almost 400 feet. The repairs were not completed for another four months. Then to make matters
worse, the trestle was battered again, but for 800 feet of damage this time. Another four months were
needed for these repairs. Next up was the Marin tower. As previously stated, suspension bridges have
two towers, and this was the first of the two built. There were no problems faced in the construction of
the tower, and it was completed in about a year. The San Francisco tower was built next. Then the
cables were put on, and finally on November 18th, 1936, the two sections of the bridge were joined in
the middle. After this, the roadway was finally put in. On

  • 3. The State Of Texas County In Texas, each county is governed by a five member Commissioners Court, which consists of a County Judge (elected at large) and four Commissioners (elected from single member precincts). The County Judge has no veto authority over the decisions of the Court; they have one vote along with the other Commissioners. In smaller counties, the County Judge also performs judicial functions, while in larger counties their role is limited to the Court. Elections are based on the political parties, Democrat, Republican, Independent and sometimes Libertarian. Counties do not have home rule authority because their authority is strictly limited by the State. Texas counties, merely exist to deliver specific types of services at the local level as prescribed by state law, but cannot enact or enforce local ordinances. 254 counties make up the state of Texas. The Dallas metropolitan area is much larger, and is one of the fastest growing in the country. The 12 county Dallas Fort Worth Arlington (DFW) metropolitan area has a population of 6,985,579 and is expected to be 7,960,117 by 2020 (Texas Population 2020 Projections, 2014). Nearly one million new residents in the DFW metropolitan area will cause more traffic congestion, the need for new jobs and more housing. • 5. Gjb2 Protein In Gap Junction Abstract Summary Gap junctions are large channels which join two adjacent cells connecting their cytoplasm s allowing direct cell to cell communication and interactions by the channeling of molecules. A gap junction is composed of two hemichannels known as connexions, one located on the membrane of each of the adjacent interacting cells. The binding of six connexin subunits is required for the formation of each of the connexion hemichannels which then join together via hydrophobic interactions forming a pore through which molecules such as metabolites, calcium and potassium ions as well as secondary messengers (IP3, cAMP) are able to passively diffuse across between interacting cells. This mode of cell to cell communication via the passage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have been done on the crystal structure of the channel in particular structure of its pore suggests its importance in the regulation of its size dependant permeability by trans junctional voltage for specific ions and molecules between the connected adjacent cells. (Qu, Y., Dahl, G. , 2002 ; Maeda et al. , 2009).The permeability is regulated at the funnel of the channels pores which is composed of 6 amino terminal alpha helices lining the channels walls. The funnel is located on the cytoplasmic side of either cell which are narrower than the inside of the channel itself allowing for the selective permeability of different sized molecules and ions by trans junctional voltage (Qu, Y., Dahl, G.). In the case of deafness, some mutations resulting in abnormal connexin26 subunits result in a change in this voltage of the gated channels which in turn alter the selective permeability of the formed connexion gap channel. • 6. Causes Of Immigration In America The United States experienced major waves of immigration during the colonial era, the first part of the 19th century and from the 1880s to 1920. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity, while some, such as the Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of religious freedom. From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came to America against their will. The first significant federal legislation restricting immigration was the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. Individual states regulated immigration prior to the 1892 opening of Ellis Island, the country s first federal immigration station. New laws in 1965 ended the quota system that favored European immigrants, and today, the majority of the country s immigrants hail from Asia and Latin America. From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original inhabitants who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America tens of thousands of years ago. By the 1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in present day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America s first settlers came in search of freedom to practice their faith. Even the store dĂ©cor is reminiscent of a simpler time, with hand lettering painted on the walls and framed artwork from past art competitions the bookstore has held. But of course, the first thing that will catch your eye if you enter is the word Vintage painted black in a neat, serif font along what seems to be the back wall. Curiously, you may approach this wall first, and without fault it is one of the bookstore s proudest walls. The shelves here are lined with books that look like they fell out of a library scene in a Hollywood movie. A little dusty, and a little worn, these books boast of their history. Many of the texts are bound in a deep red or navy blue, labeled in gold lettering and arranged by color. This wall alone may be the most picturesque in the entire store. Perhaps you ll open a book, just to take a look. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Schools are also contributing to the issue. A majority of today s Schools sell high fat, high sugar snack foods and beverages in vending machines and school stores. These malicious foods are easier to come by and cheaper, appealing more to the developing minds of students. Sexual Abuse and Eating Disorders Essay Sexual Abuse and Eating Disorders The possible relationship between sexual abuse and the development of an eating disorder has gained attention over the last few years. Researchers have attempted to clarify this potential link using a variety of population samples and research methodologies. As will be shown, the results of these investigations are rather diverse and sometimes inconclusive. In the following review of the literature, the complex relationship between sexual abuse and eating disorders will be examined while also discussing the methodological limitations of the various designs. To compare rates of sexual traumata among eating disordered women to those among women with other psychiatric disturbances (eating disorders excluded), a group of 21 women in hospital inpatient or outpatient treatments was formed, all within the age range of the eating disordered subjects who were not actively psychotic or heavily medicated. A normal control group contained 24 women consisting of hospital staff, parents, friends, and students comparable in age to the eating disordered subjects. The Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ, Bond, Gardner, Christian, Sigal, 1983; Bond Vaillant, 1986) was used to assess defense styles. In order to study sexual traumata, the authors used a self report questionnaire on which subjects indicated the following about sexual traumata during their childhood and adolescence: (1) the perpetrator; (2) the victim; (3) the nature of the abuse; (4) the frequency of the abuse; and (5) their age when the abuse occurred. Also, to determine the presence of eating disorders among the control subjects, the authors chose to use the Eating Attitudes Test (Garner Garfinkel, 1979). The authors noted that 30% of the eating disordered women reported sexual traumata; however, such traumata was prevalent among bulimics (particularly those with no anorexic history), but was rare among anorexic restricters. • 32. Pros And Cons Of Poaching Stopping poaching is not just in the interests of animals... it is in the interest of us, and in the interests of our humanity. Stated by the International Anti Poaching Foundation (Problem). Poaching rates, as large as they are, are growing rapidly and have yet to slow down in the past years. People are willing to do whatever it takes to poach an animal, since the amount ivory sells for has grown tremendously. There are many different alternatives to ivory so there is no reason for the poaching rates to rise. Most people don t even realize that poaching affects our ecosystems in numerous ways. To stop poaching would be to end all the suffering these animals feel almost every day. East Africa is the current hotspot for poaching. In my opinion cursive writing should not still be taught. First of all there s no time with the busy teachers to teach cursive, only seven states still teach it, and you really only need it for your signature. To start off, having no prier knowledge could you grandparents read it what about you kids and in school there s no time for teachers to teach it with how busy they are with notes and helping and everything that teachers have to do during schools hours. Teachers are always walking around, either helping students or going to get something or someone. Teachers have a busy day ahead of them with math, science, reading, history with all of those there s no time for cursive anymore. • 34. Discrimination Towards The Lgbt Community Throughout the years, the LGBT community has put forth tremendous effort to gain rights and recognition in the United States. Yet there have been numerous laws that have discriminated and made them feel unequal. LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered. Many people in the community have a hard time accepting who they truly are in terms of sexual orientation or gender identity. Coming out is challenging enough on its own, and laws and regulations that discriminate against those who only wish to live freely can make it hard for them to do so. Living in the time period we do, we have seen many changes in the right direction as far as having equal rights for all, but it has not always been this way. There have been many movements and actions the LGBT community has taken over the years to get to where we are today. There have also been many laws and regulations specifically targeted at same sex and transgendered individuals, some of which that still apply today. Discrimination towards the LGBT community is not something new. Although today it may seem normal to see two men holding hands walking down the street, forty years ago it was almost unheard of. This is why the Supreme Court case Baker vs. Nelson made headlines. In 1972, the Court ruled that a Minnesota same sex couple had no constitutional right to marry. • 35. The Impact Of Mass Media On Children Mental health problems have been affecting nearly every society in some way, shape, or form for as long as we can remember. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one million people die from suicide every year (Schaefer, 2018, p. 6). Durkheim also noted that the suicide rate in a society reflects how well the people were integrated in the society (Schaefer, 2018, p. 7). The problem that I want to focus on revolves around how marketing to children teaches them values, like material objects and money, that will eventually lead to higher rates of anxiety and depression at an earlier age. It is known that the mass media strongly influences kids ages 12 to 17, but the age at which kids gain access to technology is starting to decline (Schaefer, 2018, p. 90). Gradually, we can see how the media has an overwhelming effect on the youth from the way children think about their future and their career path to the way that they play. This is directly observed in a nationwide survey of incoming college freshmen which shows that values having to do with money and power rose from 42 percent in 1966 to 82 percent in 2015 (Schaefer, 2018, p. 63). If corporations constantly promote the idea that having more things will lead to happiness, then when kids can t have those things they start to believe that they can t be happy without them. Method In this study, the first variable that will be measured are the time kids (age five to twelve) spend either watching TV or on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Character Analysis Of Good Will Hunting The movie Good Will Hunting an American Drama Film was directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver and Stellan Skarsgard in 1997. This movie is about a man named Good Will Hunting who was a genius but chose not to live as a genius because of fear of past experiences and the ill treatment he received when he was in foster home. Some of the other characters in the movie were supportive and some were not supportive of him. This essay discusses Good Will s personality traits and his interaction with the other characters in the movie. Good Will Hunting possessed the following personality traits, namely: independence, intense interest in a problem, and the need for stimulation. Good Will Hunting was independent because he chose to live his own way and not conforming himself to society s pressure. Good Will Hunting proved his independence by self imposed limitation, meaning limiting his ability to enjoy complete freedom. Throughout the movie, he rejected his natural talents or gifts and initially chose to stay in South Boston with his friends. Like in the case with his girlfriend, Good Will Hunting refused to get close to people with the fear of being rejected at the end. Moreover, he refused to get higher paying jobs as was in the case of Sean Maguire, the psychology professor, who later became his counselor. It was during these counselling sessions with Good Will Hunting that we learned, Sean Maguire, was also talented in advanced mathematics, but rejected the opportunity to teach at Harvard and chose to teach at a local community college instead. Similarly, Good Will Hunting chose to remain a janitor or a construction worker where he was more comfortable. Not just did he poses the trait of independency, he also had the character of intensity of interest in a problem. As per his intensity of interest in a problem, Good Will Hunting would obsess about a problem that was presented to him until he had discovered a solution. Some examples of this in the movie were the initial math problems on the chalkboard where he could not stop working on them until he had a solution. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider, and a pack of Twixℱ and got onto our bikes. Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road. We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision. I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. The Golden Gate Bridge is truly a piece of engineering excellence. It stretches for almost 9,000 feet over the San Francisco Bay, in San Francisco, California. The bridge has faced many problems during the designing process, construction, and even to this day it produces controversy. To continue, it was January 5th, 1933, when construction officially started on the bridge. The two anchorages of the bridge were the first parts to be built. The first of the two to be built was on the San Francisco side of the bay. The other on the Marin side of the bay. The San Francisco tower access trestle was then started. It extended for more than 1,000 feet off shore. Unfortunately, a major setback was met on August 14, 1943. On this date, a steamship crashed into the access trestle, and damaged almost 400 feet. The repairs were not completed for another four months. Then to make matters worse, the trestle was battered again, but for 800 feet of damage this time. Another four months were needed for these repairs. Next up was the Marin tower. As previously stated, suspension bridges have two towers, and this was the first of the two built. There were no problems faced in the construction of the tower, and it was completed in about a year. The San Francisco tower was built next.
